After deflecting a beam attack, the buff you get massively speeds up your ki charging rate. So after deflecting go immediately into charging, usually the distance of beam attacks let you get a good chunk of ki before they rush in
It's been a few days but I think I finally get all these. Appreciate the detailed explanation, I felt in game tutorial did a bad job of really explaining things. I think I've gotten spoiled by recent fighting training modes set ups 😅
Sometimes I feel like the inputs arent working the way it was shown to me in training such as things like recovering from getting knocked to the ground. Idk if im just a millisecond too early or too late but I can never get it right no matter how many times I practiced in training. Same thing with any defense controls thst work literally half of the time even when i have plenty of ki to spend
Depending if you have less than one charge or not can determine if you can't recover in the air for what I noticed. But even in game sometimes I cant recover regardless of everything being fine. Same thing with charging your Ki, if you charge your Ki, you can't dash up, or down SOMETIMES. And same goes with ability usage, you will either spam and nothing will happen, or you will just charge. The fix for that is to wait just a little bit before using any ability after a combo or charge
@17priv17 yeah I got them off im starting to understand but at the same time one fight I'll be countering and vanishing on the fly as intended and other times I'm stun locked getting hit in the back and having that up square input(ps5) not work half of the time even if the timing is right and I have ki and skill points available it's janky but still having a good time.
Great showcase of the defensive options. much appreciated. I figured that perfect deflection thing was a Tien only thing since he's the only one I've seen do it and he used it against the kamehameha in the anime, neat to know everyone can.
I think Perception and Super Counters are just way too free for how much options they’re able to cover. If I could balance the game I would 1) make a successful perception and super counter cost at least one skill point 2) make perception unable to guard lows and high attacks, that would make regular blocking more viable in comparison 3) make vanishing behind you opponent as you’re getting slapped around cost a full bar of meter so we’re not just vanishing a million times a game
I like these idea accept the vanishing one. I think the best way to fix it is to increase the speed of it so it’s not the same frames everytime you vanish. Making it more difficult the more times you and your opponent vanish each other will put into perspective on if it’s worth challenging the vanish and wasting all your KI bc if you lose your at a big disadvantage.
@@zethroth0077 I like that idea as well, I was just stating mine because I believe that’s how it was in the original BT3 game. But yeah Ki is so important that I would prefer your option if it’s possible
Great video good sir 🙏 If I may add something, I am not 100% but I have been doing it on reflex because of the old games but you can also vanish those rush attacks and as well as the beam attacks. Maybe a duh moment for some but incase you don't have the skill points for perception, as long as you're not in the flying back animation after a hit it is still possible to avoid those big attacks. The timing is tight and for some characters that have beam attacks that hit multiple times it's rough but it is possible. And not to mention cool. The difference is though you'll manually have to move in to attack (In the case of the perception block for the super rush attacks automatically giving you a follow up.) Just something to keep in mind. Really good to have in your back pocket. Maybe more for going through the story since online I imagine people aren't spamming beam attacks that often unless they are guaranteed hit but, still good to know and practice. (I THINK you can still avoid a beam attack if you're flying back if you time it but I am not 100% sure and need to keep testing for myself)
Thank god I seen this, cause I did training and learned of the super counter, but I didnt know it could be used for when im getting hit in the back. They just be destorying my back in story mode
Pro tip: you can use a smash attack follow up with 2 more hits send them flying them dragon dash to them smash attack again and then follow up 2 more times
Great explanantion to all the defense techniques! I just want to add , when an opponent uses a smash attack, its much better to rather learn the timing for a vanish as vanishing wont take a Skill Stock and you can pivot right into a combo from vanishing
Yeah but online vanishing is super hard I don’t know how those pros can do those vanish after vanish cause legit it’s super hard and then super counter is just horrific like if you play against someone who can do it consistently you’ll never get him in a combo
wish the game just gave a good tutorial instead of just expecting you to get hit by everything until you figure out which of the 17 counter/guard options would've actually worked against a specific attack
@@CaptKami18 but it still sucks. Because it's one at a time. You don't really practice and train to choose between two options. If you do super perception training, it will always be super perception

When it comes towards deflections. Other than that unknown split second buff, there is no other use to it besides wasting Ki. Basically... Perception looks cool, but is completely useless, you need that key for better perception counters, transformations for health... etc. I read the comment saying that the buff is to charge your Ki faster, most people wont let you charge your Ki for that fraction of a second anyways due to dash launching existing, so not only can't you use that quick buff anyways, but you'll be punished for trying to do it.
I don't have the ability to test at the moment but do you think that perfect deflect for ki blasts would be viable for androids? I saw someone mention elsewhere that they get a bigger health and ki absorb from that similar to their grabs. Could be false though.
Makes sense depends tbh, sparking mode is a huge advantage, having your ki charge faster (especially to go into sparking mode) after they have just wasted their Ki, is not such a bad advantage. Still you’re right timing the vanish would be perfect scenario
You can only use Z-dash attack from a charging posture, so a quick Ki charge means you can deflect and charge then rush them down a split second after they notice you absorbed their beam, so they might enter 'charging' mode but might not notice you are already on the way rushing towards them. For characters with AoE Ki abilities, you could in theory charge a bit of ki, Z-dash around them quickly after deflecting a beam (depending on the attack it might obscure their vision of you for a second) and spook them when you 'zoom' in to their side (I think a Z-dash doesn't enable the opponent to 'track' your moments perfectly well) then use your AoE attack or something at point blank? Having ki ready after charging means you can combo them to knock them around then use your ability when they are vulnerable from that rush.
How do you instantly dash back in to an opponent every time after getting knocked back or after knocking an opponent back instead of the normal speed dash, like the instant dragon dash thing, not the vanish....is it r2 and x and square?
I'm going to assume you might be talking about one of the evasive options some characters have called Explosive Wave. It's a character specific ability that cost 2 bars and escapes combos.
Very much love the guide! Can u also make one explaining the different bars (resources ig..?) at the top near ur hp bar? I'm new to the game so I pretty much have no clue what they do lol
If you're just talking about the squares, those are just health bars. Some characters have 2, 3, and maybe 4. The blue bar under the characters' portrait is a skill count. This is used for various techniques like transforming, performing certain counters, etc. If enough demand is necessary, I'll consider making a beginners video or something in the future.
Very nice video, i finally understand why my cheeky ass got countered my counter lmao btw cant we dodge kikoha attacks like kamehameha or freeza's beam with just O (classic) ?
I would love to see a guide on evasion defense. For example how to move away from an energy attack or how to move around with the dragon rush (forgot what its name is)
You mean like vanishing before a beam attack hits? And if you're talking about the move where you super dash and then fly behind your opponent, that's Z-Burst Dash.
You can’t evade/vanish rush attacks, only smashes, lifts, high-speed movements and v-assaults. Also should have mentioned that during a vanish war, it’s about skill but also who has the most Ki. The buff you get from deflecting a blast gives you a x3 speed up in Ki charge I don’t think you need x2 skill charges to execute perception on a Revenge Counter. Super Counters are the most difficult counter to execute. You can execute a mid-air perception after a lift. Didn’t even discuss step invulnerability…
Bruv this whole time I couldn’t figure out why someone could z-counter and I just couldn’t turns out my ki management is bunz. Thanks for the tutorial haha!
You would never think defense would be king in a game like this. I swear defense is stronger than offense. You can always get out (minus the cheesy unblockables). You just need the skill to execute. And either speed up the timing window or force an impact for consecutive vanishes with Z-counters. It's going to get stale after a while.
