@@wtfmikxy talking about timing window. You got 1 frame for 3 button presses consecutively 😂 Coming from High Rank Tekken, super counters in this game are pretty easy and i usually get them after the second hit
Quick Tip: The game my default starts you off at Semiautomatic which enabled guard assist. The game thinks it's trying to help, but it's actually hindering you defense. From my experience, guard assist interferes with the advance defense options discussed here. I was sort of struggling in training until I noticed that sometimes Goku would just keep blocking or block automatically even when I'm not pressing the guard button. Went into settings and turned that nonsense off that the game feels much smoother now. If you really want to master defense, you gotta go full manual. It helped me a lot.
When doing a Z counter you can just hold up on the analog stick and then the most important part is to time the attack button press to the incoming flurry. Don't button mash it!
That's what I love about this game-It has so many little mechanics that so perfectly emulate the feel of the fighting in the show that when you pull them off successfully, it just feels amazing. Great tips! Thank you!
Dude 31 seconds in and you're already getting a immediate like from me for the fact you're showing real time inputs on screen thank you bro this is absolutely something that is needed for these things
I feel like this game is so damn good cause of how fun the combat is and also how high the skill ceiling is so people are gonna keep playing trying to get better
@jayfazo5273I get what you’re saying about preferring Naruto Storm's combat system. It’s definitely got a unique style that’s fast-paced and flashy. But Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is aiming for that classic Tenkaichi feel, which a lot of fans love for its open, arena-style battles and freedom of movement. It’s not trying to be Naruto Storm-it's more about capturing the essence of epic DBZ fights. Both series have their strengths, and it’s all about what you enjoy more in a fighting game!
@jayfazo5273naruto storm is fire but ngl sparking zero is another beast imo. When the combat finally clicked with me I felt like my third eye opened 😂😂 it’s so fun

@wtfmikxy i tried it last night due to having alot of issues trying online on xbox. I was selecting characters like ssj4 goku, ssj vegito and beating them senselessly. I'd say do the future saga fights or t.o.p. fights if you want good experience against a bot that utilizes all of their defensive options while staying hyper aggressive.
@wtfmikxy I actually dove into custom battle and made my first one! I was annoyed that you can't use the word pride in any dialog or titles as my whole concept was a 5 on 1 match where you're vegeta and your prides on the line against other prideful fighters like cell, frieza, jiren, zamasu and I can't remember who I had in the 5th slot, took me a few attempts but it was fun and challenging. They just need to give us more words and lines for them.

My problem is that whenever I get in a combo, these goobers always find a way to turn my character around and then get me in a combo loop with no way out. No amount of timed vanishes, blocks, or counters work at all. I’m stuck brother.

great video my dude, really nice information, straight to the point, and the controller visual + slower speed of gameplay is a killer combo - incredible work my dude
It’s crazy how you can only evade a revenge counter with normal evasion if you do it right after connecting with your attack. So you gotta expect your opponent to revenge counter.
When I train I typically pick Attack Evasion, put the CPU on Super and no other setting changes. Kinda simulates a ranked match in my opinion since you have to build KI and SP
You can hold up the entire time for z counter so that might help also don’t feel bad for not being able to do it it’s like 4 frames you have to hit and release it in and there’s a tone of game delay rn love the vids btw
i’m just tired of getting wrecked bc i got a fighter behind my character going to town behind them….. i feel so helpless watching my bars of health fade Way
well thats how they built the game because they didnt want it to be as balanced as xenoverse 2(which is crazy that we can even say) or fighterz they wanted it to be a game of spamming vanish and praying you get behind your opponent first and that they dont get lucky with a super counter immediately
Couple things. 1) great video, clean, right to it, beautiful 2) thank you so much for not only showing the inputs but it being an xbox controller, apparently this game is dominated by Playstation. Even if your inputs are slightly different, it's still nice. 3) for Z counters, can you keep the analog pushed up and just time X or do you have to time both? Have a like, sub, and a comment
i’m really bad and this game is literally so hard for me, i can’t hit any of these counters, even after watching i wasn’t able to time the counters properly and in an actual match my mind just blanks out
Love how you got to the point and answer all my questions. Sat for hours wondering why I couldn’t stop combos and why people were still getting first strike after I countered. Even after doing the training when I first got on. I finally get it and I definitely gotta get better at countering the revenge counters
Probably, idk what rank you in, but most I see people get it off after a half or near the end of a combo. Some people don't even know about it (myself included until about 2 hours ago, practiced it in story but I mashed the shit out of the button 😂)
It would be greatly appreciated. If you could slow down the button press on the controller you explained a simple enough, but still difficult to understand if it’s not slow down on the button presses.
Okay was this all timed as a joke or am I that unlucky? Hahaha Every time you said “It should look like this…” I pay close attention only for a freakin ad to pop up. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!!
Like the video. But knowing you have custom controls is a tad annoying for people trying to learn who are on the basic control configurations. It’s like asking viewers to do extra work of translating your customs controls back to the base controls that most people are using
I understand that but if that’s the case I gotta figure out xbox, PlayStation and then both standard and classic mode. The normal binds are always practicable in training with gohan and piccolo to ur specific binds. I can’t just explain all 4 settings every time video gets to confusing that way. That’s why I say move names to not confuse xbox or PlayStation
great video mate, somehow i have not blocked a singel thing in this game. even when i just fucking buttom smashing should some been blocked. it cant be skill isssues, by math i should have blocked a singel thing, but nothing. anyone have idea what i am doing wrong here?
You might be confusing perception with guarding cause these are 2 different things. if you are being chain attacked you want to try to z counter. If you are being tossed around then you want to try to evade. If you think someone is about to hit you, you can dodge out the way or use perception to counter it. It could be many things I recommend going into training and having the bot rush chain attack you and figure out what ur doing wrong
This has happened to me when I’m in the midsts of getting combos my revenge counter be missing sometimes that’s why I use high speed evasion or Z Counters
So what are my options if I’m getting rush attacked from behind? I can’t use the quick evade teleport thing or the perception sway correct? Great vid btw!
my problems with all the videos I see, " I changed the buttons but press the "blah" button".. gee thanks I don't see an "Evade" button on my controller and if you changed your button config to something that isn't standard OR classic.. Wth
If you don’t see a specific button then go into training and figure out which button is ur evade button. All players have different settings, also not to mention there’s 2 types of controllers Xbox and PlayStation. That’s why I explain it in the sense that you gotta hit ur “evade” and “guard” button. No guide is going to be able to help you if you don’t understand ur own binds. That’s why they have the gohan and piccolo training.. go there figure out ur binds cause they teach you with ur specific settings then revisit the guide 💪🏻
I understand the classic and the standard binds. If you did a Mario tutorial would you say press the "Fire ball button" or say press B.. which makes more sense. This game is hard enough for others to have to go translate your "bindings". I still think you did a good job explaining how to counter.
For super counters stay with me I’m gonna talk this out and I just hope someone can confirm Obviously, the input is up on the left thumb stick, and an X slightly behind that I still struggle to hit it all that often wouldn’t effective strategy and I am using multiple paddles and X so I’m hitting the X button multiple times I’m shocked that this isn’t even an issue But could it be to start tapping X and then move the thumb stick up keeping the same pace of X tapping going on while you do that one of them should sync up, correct
Regular evasion is meant to get out of harms way. The other evasion is a means to trick ur opponent and teleport to them to get a hit in or kick them away.
Super is kinda easy ....ummm there's something with calfa ( califlower) she is more agreesive then most , i also noticed when some get hit with a ultimate and survive they get in this constant loop of jumping and shooting ki blast
Can only certain characters do the counter normal evasion thing because I’ve tried it a hundred times I’m pressing the same buttons and it’s just not working
I'm gonna assume you knew this, but for the comments section I'm gonna "um, akshually" you. Hopefully you like it and pin this cuz it's a little important. You kept using the term "Z- counter" interchangeably with "super counter" but they are actually 2 different mechanics. Super counter is the one you were talking about, up+attack button at point of impact. "Z- counter" refers to the type of vanish that starts and perpetuates the vanish war. Hopefully this doesn't come across too dickish and nerdy, just thought it needed to be said, great video otherwise.
super counter is so annoying to do, I always go against the same cheese characters spamming combos. Just ran into an android 20 spamming melee combos and I cant do a god damn thing, I almost threw my controller lol. He then absorbs your energy too, I keep spamming L UP + Square and nothing, i just sit in the combo forever no matter when I press it.
Hey, I wanna know how to get to that menu at the start where you can practice moves one by one with on-screen help/assistance. How do I get there from the main menu?
I wish beam deflection was free just like in RB There’s really no point at all doing it for 2 skills points, that is way too expensive Also the buff it gives is not worth it and lasts only for 10 seconds, so that’s really useless
It would also be super overpowered if it didn’t cost skill points think about it you can deflect beams whenever you want unless ur floating away after being combo’d kinda unfair tbh I think it’s fine
@@wtfmikxy How would it be overpowered when you can very easily do high speed evasion for free on them instead ? 🤔 It was like that in RB and it was working fine
@@Ed_Crane well because in sparking zero you can hold down perception so if you can hold down perception to deflect any ki blast it would be overpowered
@@wtfmikxy But I didn’t say that should stay like that, I just said I wished they work like in RB, which basically work the same way as high speed evasion They could very easily tweak that
Imo and this is me 100% and I KNOW I’m In the minority here when I say this but anyways the way I feel 100% is this.. Had This game had a more traditional defense type of system that’s present In damn near 90% of fighting games then it easily could have been amongst the best of Fighting Games in DBZ history and take its rightful spot next to BT3 and such. The defense system the game has where you have to essentially (as I understand it) have to fill up a bar / 2 bars to perform a move that gets your opponent off of you and out of a combo which is terrible as at least for me a majority of the time if I don’t have those 2 bars cus it was spent else where and then I get hit with a combo! There’s been way too many of my matches where I’m literally just sitting there watching them slowly but surely deplete my health bars and it if I manage to somehow get out of it by the time I recover there already on me again and I have no bars so I’m stuck in combo hell. Not to mention the “Block” button is pointless as there’s nothing you can do out of it where as other games there’s some moves you can do out of block to get some breathing room / reset and then in ‘SZ’ you hold block and they just constantly stay in your face and you can’t do nothing and once your block is down for a second RESUME COMBO HELL. Not to mention how there’s moves that literally either paralyze your character completely OR it’s leaves you in a state where your watching your character just standing there breathing all heavily but you can’t move cus he literally has to catch his freaking breath!!! In a game like SZ a lot of BS like that leads to Combo hell. I get that people want to compete and all that whatever. But I amongst others I’m sure kind of just want a casual DBZ Fighting game like back in the day and the beauty of the Budokai Tenkaichi series on PS2 was that it had the power to be BOTH! You can chill and create all kinds of really cool or wacky battles due to the INSANE Roster that the game had which made it one of THEE BEST! Fighting games EVER let alone in the DBZ series. I really wish that BT4 would have stuck to that and not this bs. Or at the very least give us an option to turn this type of defense bs off. I swear due to the defense bs alone I prefer Xenoverse 2 combat over BT4 and that’s not right! even XV2 Combat was mainly Stamina based as well but damn it wasn’t this bad! The recovery times weren’t bad either or ridiculous and what’s best was how in XV2 everything felt fluid like it all flowed from Transforming - comboing into super moves and into ultimates. The combat in XV2 was way more fun than the combat in BT4!!

Can only certain characters do the counter normal evasion thing because I’ve tried it a hundred times I’m pressing the same buttons and it’s just not working
Wtf am I doing then? X+A to teleport
That’s to get behind ur opponent and hit them. That’s more of an aggressive combat move.
this game confuses me with it's dash specials. In tb3 you can just block them, but sometimes they are unblockable here??
Super counters and z counters are two different things
I be doing combos and etc and still get my ass whooped, and I’m only at rank b4. Maybe this game ain’t for me cuz I’m absolutely dogshit bruh 😭😭😭
Finna have them boys scrambling n scraping for shi
Intro feeling a little too personal😂
My fault 🙂↕️😭😭
Make a defense guide for gidnt characters
Trynna be on demon time 😈
Stupid question, how would you pull off an "evade" "step" on PC? I've never seen anyone else do it.
I actually don’t know but there is some good content creators I’ve seen on this game that play KBM and probs know how to pull it off
I wish beam deflection was free just like in RB
There’s really no point at all doing it for 2 skills points, that is way too expensive
Also the buff it gives is not worth it and lasts only for 10 seconds, so that’s really useless
It would also be super overpowered if it didn’t cost skill points think about it you can deflect beams whenever you want unless ur floating away after being combo’d kinda unfair tbh I think it’s fine
@@wtfmikxy
How would it be overpowered when you can very easily do high speed evasion for free on them instead ? 🤔
It was like that in RB and it was working fine
@@Ed_Crane well because in sparking zero you can hold down perception so if you can hold down perception to deflect any ki blast it would be overpowered
@@wtfmikxy
But I didn’t say that should stay like that, I just said I wished they work like in RB, which basically work the same way as high speed evasion
They could very easily tweak that
That’s fair I guess it’s for more complex gameplay
I've given up. I can not beat the story mode.
