Sorry the audio wasn't great. Also, the cost for each CPU/mobo combo was ~$70

Lets see whats better a unsupported platform or a viable platform regardless of the small difference Ryzen is better.

"And then one day, a Ryzen 5800x3d cpu was popped in and the owner had a completely new pc!"

Right... You put a 5800X3D in one of these crappy motherboards, and you *might* need a new PC...
      Unless you live in Iceland

@@zCaptainzWhat does that mean? The x3d chips don't really run all that hot or take a ton of extra power.

Just buy a new pc instead 😂

@@imanasianguywithabignose8963 let me ask you something, what games do people play where an 5800x3d can't keep up?
A 5800x3d keeps up and even beats some modern performance cpu's now and breathes new life in an old system for only the cost of an in socket upgrade. it not even two years old yet.

    • @zCaptainz

@@lilsammywasapunkrock All I meant was, putting the best AM4 CPU on the shittiest AM4 board, seems like a really bad idea. And an unnecessary risk.
      I wouldn't even risk a 5600X on them if I had a semi-decent GPU, honestly.
I've seen some shit ... *vietnam flashbacks*
These boards are good for office work... Not for extended gaming sessions, with a 150W ish GPU underneath throwing off heat to those shitty VRMs... argh.. It pains me just to think of it.

I am surprised by the result. Of course I had never considered doing this particular speed comparison as server class CPUs (i.e. Xeon) tend to clock lower and rely on multiple threads as their main selling point. I personally have the prior generation older Xeon (x79) but do not use it for gaming. Someone gave me a bunch of older DDR3 ECC dimms and could not resist building something that I could just do some server stuff with. In the winter I can even use it as a space heater quite effectively.

For what you give up/hassle of troubleshooting, honestly it doesn't feel worth it especially if they're similarly priced. I mean the 1600x maybe long in the tooth now but there's a fairly straightforward upgrade path. For me the xeon platform would have to be much cheaper to compete in terms of value proposition. Pretty much 1/2 the price of the Ryzen gen1 platform would be my max. The upgrade path is worth so much and the jump from gen 1 ryzen to gen4 is significant down the line. Everything pretty much working out of the box is a pretty big deal. It's fun to fix and build pcs but trawling through forums in a language I don't speak trying to troubleshoot is not a fun time

Got a 1600af for close to $20. Coupled with an a320m-k from asus and I got a good enough system for not much spent! If I stayed on lga 1151 which my last motherboard was at, I’d be stuck with 4 cores that are at double the price in the used market.

I have the same asus board, got it for 55eur new, 16GB ram for 20 eur and a R5 2600 for 30eur (both used ofc). Its been running fine for a year now, i didnt bother OCing. Hwinfo64 saws "Power reporting Deviation" error, the board doesnt report core/SoC voltage 100% correctly. Maybe its the bios rev. I think chinese X99 combos still has a spot for budget gaming, if the local used market is bad.

I do like the egg shell colour on those Chinese boards, would be nice in a white build.

Perhaps a better budget option for xeons, would be to buy a 2nd hand system. I got a Dell t5810 with the e5 1650 v4 cpu 16gb ram(now upgraded to 32 in quad channel) and a 825w gold rated psu for just over £100. Chucked in my gtx1070 & I'm quite happy with the results.
You can also add a pcie nvme adaptor , which the system can boot from. The Dell motherboard is more feature rich than the Chinese ones. Although I'm aware I've no upgrade path for this. Also aware in some countries 2nd hand workstations will be significantly more expensive. Intresting video.

A feature rich Dell motherboard, is not something uttered often. lol
I do understand it's better than the fake hybrid Chinese motherboards, though.

Let us know if that Asus board is working. Maybe it needs a bios flash, or don't use the overclocking option. I avoid the Chinese vendor site for the reasons you presented. Support is usually not needed, until it is!

    • @50shadesofbeige88
      @50shadesofbeige88  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

The Asus board works. The BIOS doesn't appear to be the problem. The actual voltage was within spec.

I believe a lot of the 300 series boards lost support for 1st gen Ryzen when they added the 5000 series support. I have an Asus Prime A320m-k and when I got it it had the original launch day BIOS, it worked with the Ryzen 3600 it came with, and a Ryzen 3 1300 I swapped in, then I updated to the newest BIOS and I thought it was bricked, I tried the 3600 and a 5650, both worked fine.

The machinist x99 board i got is a different chipset but only delivers 15 watts max to the cpu and im thinking is holding it back. The bios sucks and i cant figure out how to make it faster. So i had to get a better bios luckily.

  • @thelasthallow
    @thelasthallow 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

just reset the bios on that first AMD board and reset all the settings back to stock, 2 some motherboards freak out when you put a water pump on a fan header thats why nearly every motherboard that comes out today has a dedicated pump header instead.

    Why would anyone pay $70 for a 1600X? You can get an R5 2600 for £30/$35. I picked up an R7 1700 for £23/$30.

It's $70 for CPU+MOBO. Which combined is about the going rate on the second hand market.

End this argument, get a ryzen 3600. There is no reason to go less and all Intel are pure shyte. Seriously this is fruitless. A 3600 will last another decade on 1080p which is a majority of pc gamers go to refresh rate

In my country you can find a xeon 1650v4 , x99 mobo and 16 of ddr4 2400hz ram for like 64 bucks , the amd combo is nearly double the price, the only problem here is that you cant upgrade anything on the x99 , but for a super budget pc , i’d recommend the xeon one
I dont know why amd so hard to find in my country, i love amd but my wallet said no

I agree. The exercise was more about $70 CPU motherboard combo, and 6C / 12T. But you're right. I picked up the 1600X for $35 and the B450M A II for $30.

Ryzen wins hands down easily only way i can see the intel being better is if you got a good deal from Ally Express for a large 12 core zeon with a compatible board in which case then it's the difference is just higher end hardware compared to lower grade hardware if we still could comparing it to the first gen Ryzen how ever , from a cost perspective it might be the better deal then

as a cheapo tightwad, i notice the lower you go in qualtiy, and the cheaper the price, the more they try and rob you in the used market, while in the more expensive the more you wil find the ocasional guy that will sell at a huge discount..lol. yeah on a X370 and old modified X570 both are great my A320 lasted like a month before Caps started popping, that B450 is the cheapest made, and it was its sister board...so yeah, dont get unless you get super cheap

Instead of picking the best xeons for gaming you really picked the 1650v4
And this motherboard is very bad compared to others like the QD4, RS9 and MR9A
