  • Some parts of Adabraka in Accra got flooded after rains on Tuesday night.
    Residents say that because of rains in parts of the city upstream, the Odaw drain's level started going up before they saw the rain fall in Adabraka.

    Many years ago during the Busia administration (I was a school boy then) attempts were made to deal with haphazard developments in Accra but typical of Ghana Busia was given all manner of degradatory names. The whole of Accra is one big flood plain. It is not safe for people to live in areas that are prone to flooding. It should be clear to everybody by now that when it rains in Accra, large area turn into swimming pools since there are not sorm water drainage systems in the city plus people have built to block off the natural drainage paths of rivers and runoff water. Until that lesson is learnt, things can/will get worse unfortunately.

    When the colonial government made the gutters big, and we have made them smaller that will bring disaster. Some years ago I lived around Katamanto Kokompe near the Tarzan road, there's the Hotel deHorses. There was a big drain that captures all the water from Adabraka that empties into the Korle Lagoon near Galloway. When the Tarzan road was being constructed that drain was made smaller, the Korle Lagoon near Galloway has been made smaller. It was filled with laterite. I remember when we were young, we go fishing in that part of the lagoon near Galloway that has been filled. This is all the problem. Nature is just fighting back. It will fight back until we go back and correct our mistakes, oh forgive me, our stupidity.

    I pity all those who were affected by the rains. I urge the authorities to institute stern measures to deter people who flout the sanitation laws. The real cause of major flooding in the city of Accra, especially at Adabraka, Alajo, and Asalum Down, is the flow of rain current from the Akuapem mountains. The authorities must find a of diverting the rain drains to some other areas instead of allowing all to flow through Accra. How could people's residences get flooded when it has not even started to rain in Accra? The government must task our public planners and engineers find the solution to this perennial problem.

    • @essirenhier7489
      @essirenhier7489 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex Ntiri they have to make sure they knew how to navigate those helicopters in the air or lost them. Just like the one in Togo who can’t extinguish small fire but professional in beating up population, arrest unlawfully and kill them. I don’t know how these ppls so useless. Especially those from northern (sorry not all of them).
      Human being living in those places with there waisted. Look at the slam water pull out ? Anyway Ghanaians love dirtiness, most of them. Thanks God. when I was living there, I never experienced any flood. It’s a recurrent problem for that country and since then there useless corrupted leaders never used there f**** brain to fixe it. Look at there construction, street etc . Am pretty sure Whiteman told them : build your living place nicely and live the poor in the muddy.
      Foolishes useless jerks ppl. There president Nana Akuffo Addo Dankwua speaks Britishly English but his brain with his law degree, work experience abroad can’t allow him to see the light. Same like former president.
      By seeing topographic of that country Nd there ppl, they need very highly visionary to built the country.

    I blame the government for allowing them to build structures that block the drainage. I also blame the very people who live there because they are the ones who are littering. If you take care of your place of business and stay, others will not be able to come there and litter. I do not smoke in my home, can some one come there and decide to smoke without confrontation. We ars our own biggest problem. We take little things for granted not understanding those little things have capacity to produce big regressive outcomes.
