Congratulations!! I love that you prayed about the placement! Sixth graders need your special way of communicating! You remind me so much of my dear friend who teaches fifth grade. Her students learn about life, themselves, the real world and of course academics. I teach Kindergarten and that is where I do best. Teaching sixth grade is a gift. Blessings on your new adventure! You've go this!💓
Awww thank you so much! I’m super excited to take this journey on. Yes I want my kiddos to walk out of my room with life smarts as much as academics ❤bless your heart I could never do kinder 😂
I was in an open concept building. I was the librarian and 5 first grade and 5 second grade classrooms were off the library. No walls. Everybody walked through my room. Every art class, first and 2nd grade lunch, special ed classes, people wandering the building. Set boundaries and block distractions if you can. Plus side you are not shut off from others and will be a part of the group.
Omgoodness that is definitely different than what I’m used to. My last classroom was enclosed but our media center was like that. But thanks for the advise I’ll def have to do that 😊
There will also be some protocol already in place. So go along with them, then set additional boundaries. When they moved the library, after a major renovation, I had 4 walls and doors, but missed the companionship of being in the middle of the school.
Hello teacher friends and everyone else our center has regular closed classrooms but my room is passthrough to everywhere else. It is a big distraction !!!!!!!! We have a staff member who walks through alot and she has 2 of her kids in my class and the kids cry and throw fits for mommy!!!!!! Does she ever work???????? Amen
So happy for you!!!! From the videos you do I thought you were an amazing teacher and felt badly when you would talk about your old district and how you were feeling. I wish you an amazing 202402025 school year. You are going to be AMAZING!!! Can't wait to see new videos. Enjoy your summer. Alicia from CT
Congrats! You look extremely excited! The job you got sounds like my interview that I got my kinder job for next year. I’ve stayed home for 9 years, had 3 interviews to go back in the district I live in and didn’t get any, the interviews were hard an impersonal and no small talk. I interviewed 30 minutes away at my old district and we joked and chatted and laughed and I was myself and loved the staff and got the job. Good luck next year!
Thanks for sharing. And yes I totally get that because it was very impersonal. I mean they were nice but yeah no like personal interactions. I mean I would want to get to know the person personally as well because even though we are professionals we have to know the personality of the people you’re working with. At least that’s my opinion 🤷🏻♀️
Congrats, I taught 6th grade self-contained in elementary for a couple years, also departmentalized a year. I prefered self contained. I moved to 4th a couple years ago and love it. I, like you am very sarcastic and it worked well with 6th. But its really the age where they begin getting attitudes, and I found that super challenging. Open concept seems a bit scary... Good luck!
Yeah I’ve always said 5th and 6th are the hardest ones to teach because that is when the kids are finding themselves, I just hope it is not too much different than 6. But thanks for sharing :)
Thank you! Yes it can be discouraging at times but I always wanna think if you get into teaching it’s because you truly are passionate about the kids and making a difference.
Well normally the teachers whom you’ll be working with. Or some schools have a hiring committee that consist of different teachers in the school along with principal and assistant principal. I’ve never interviewed with the superintendent so that was new for me. And yes lots of anxiety 😳
@@sharinaross1865 In terms of like read alouds or novel studies? TBH I'm not sure in this district but ones I have been at haven't really said anything just as long as it's appropriate for the grade level. But I'll have to ask my principal and see. But as far as like the strictness of FL, no at least not in my state.
@@sharinaross1865 ah ok. Yeah I think they are pretty flexible but I'll def ask my principal and let you know. How are they on strictness in your state?

Interviewing and demos are such a stressful time for teachers. I can totally empathize. Best of luck!
Yes they are. Sometimes I think it’s more than it needs to be but thank you ❤

Congratulations on your new position 🎉🥳🎊🍾
Thank you so much. I’m super stoked!
Am happy that why alot of people are saying a lot of negative things about teaching in the diaspora you are enthusiastic about it.
Thank you! Yes it can be discouraging at times but I always wanna think if you get into teaching it’s because you truly are passionate about the kids and making a difference.
Ms eeeeeee i misss you 😭😭😭😭😭
Is it normal for an entire staff to sit in on a teacher interview? Good grief that gives me anxiety....😬

Have you seen your new classroom yet 🙂😁😮
I have not 😢 but once I have access to it, you’ll get to see it too 🎉
Are you the only sixth grade teacher at your new building .
No they do have another one. She wasn’t on the interview panel but I saw her on their website
How many sections of grade levels are there at your new school 🏫.
So far it looks like 2 per grade level so I’m hoping it stays that way so I know both six grade teachers will have a job for a while 😊
Congratulations on teaching sixth grade 😮
Have fun in 6th grade.
Thank you! I'm curious to see how its going to be different from 5th grade.
