  • Here is the tutorial, of sorts, for the slow stitch needle book. I’ve added a few changes and share how you can easily alter it for any size book you want to make. This video does not show the actual sewing of the book, rather the steps needed to get it ready to sew. I’m sure I missed something and I’m happy to answer any questions you might have. Thank you for watching and happy creating.

    Good morning. Your book, though you seemed uncomfortable making it, was excellent! I am a quilter and plan to make another notions book. I am definitely going to emulate this one. I work with fabric not paper so I completely understand making something out of your element. I applaud you for a job well done! Any seamstress would be thrilled to have one of yours. The story behind the stork scissors is that the midwives used to use small scissors this size to cut the umbilical cord when they delivered a baby. Someone came up with the stork idea when they invented the stork delivery tale. It stuck and carried on for many years, crafts, and companies. 👩‍🌾👍🧵🪡💙

    So beautiful- so many great ideas to include- most needle books I’ve seen just have felt pages for the pins and needles. This is more like a mini Hussif- love it!! One thing to note on your felt- the reason to splurge on wool felt, is that the lanolin in the sheep’s wool will keep your needles and pins from rusting! Polyester doesn’t do that. And the way you’ve just put the bit of felt that you need instead of full pages will make it go a long way. Great tutorials Cori! 💖

    I want to make a needle book for myself today. But I don’t have a lot of money. I do have plenty of supplies at home I just don’t have a lot like yours. I just don’t really know what would work. My book would probably be plain.

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plain is good and I always encourage folks to use what they have. Many of my supplies came from yard sales and thrift stores.

  • @1jmass
    @1jmass 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you didn’t want to add the center piece, could you just sew the two pieces on three sides leaving the top open? This would create a pocket for fabric scraps or whatever. I would think you would need to use a thicker fabric if you did this.

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely that would work. I used thick canvas for this, and it’s pretty sturdy.

    Cori, Thanks you agin for a great tutorial!! You are so talented and your work is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. That piece of lace, btw, is an arm cover for a chair or sofa. You will often find them in sets of three, with two pieces for the arms and one for the head. They protected the upholstery fabric from the oils in your skin and hair, and were often attached with curly upholstery pins with glass heads!

      I didn't cut the flap. Each section is a separate piece, and after they were sewn in to attach to the signature, I sewed the bottom and side of each pocket together, leaving the top open, to make a single center pocket. I hope that helps!

    Love it Cori and thanks for sharing. A couple ideas would be a belly band set high on that last page for your lace snippets. Also I buy wool blankets at estate sales and auctions and cut them up, serge the edges and use those for my needles. (Lanolin in wool prevents rusting) You could also try using linen napkins folded in half for your pages and just sew around three sides.
