I love that he didn’t know the song real well but gave it his all to prove a point. Good for him.
After this performance no-one could EVER deny that Hip-Hop artists are worthy of being main stage acts on festivals!
Ah yes the moment a rapper sings a rock song and then plays rap music with backing instruments is the moment that proved hip hop artists can't play rock festivals. Yes very smart.

To add more fuel to this, after Oasis split Jay-z said that he would like to work with Liam.....now thats something I would want to see
Possibly the greatest opening 5 minutes of a set in Glastonbury history
quite possibly, honestly
Literally changed the game for how Hip Hop/ Rap/ R&B artists are accepted as live acts. Truly an iconic performance.
Watching his cheekbones as he smiles while singing is is so funny. Picture Noels face as he sees this 🤣
The real take away here is how good 99 problems sounds with guitar behind it
it already had a guitar behind it lmao
That fact that Jay used Noel’s song to diss him and turn up the crowd. Then used 99 problems to not only prove that hip hop has its place. But calls Noel a bitch in the process. 😎
Hip-hop and rock music are more interlinked than you'd think
Everything soudns good if you get BACK IN BLACK by ACDC.
@@andreaswong8829 Hip-hop is punk without guitars and white people.
One of the best Glastonbury performances of all time.
Rap music is embarrassing...white people that shill rap music are even more embarrassing
Jay-Z taking the piss out of Noel Gallagher 😂
Fred Rey the people love it and shows oasis are just BIBICAL, 😂
and is failing miserably 😂
The house of cards is collapsing. Bye Jay-z
Taking the piss by playing his song to which the whole crowd knew all the words? Fuck me he’s done a class job there
Funny, never knew that. 👏🏼🇬🇧✌🏼
Im more impressed by the ACDC mashup than that Wonderwall cover
He didnt mean to do it well
The AC/DC riff/sample is in big part thanks to Rick Rubin, who is famous for mashing up rock and hip hop.
they had to pay a lot of royalties for this perfomance lol
@@bcauseiloveyou everyone pays royalties, even liam gallagher pays them for playing oasis songs.
444 mate back to black is Amy Winehouse hahaha back in black is AC/DC
I’m British and I love how you can hear our accent at the end, makes me smile
I'm convinced Jay z is abit of a rocker, oasis intro, acdc mash up plus the album he did with Linkin park 👍👍
Don’t forget when he joined and performed with Phish when they were in Brooklyn back in 2005 (don’t quote me on the year)
He was doing it to take a shot at noel this has nothing to do with him liking oasis
Also tried to get MGMT on one of his albums
Jack White collaboration
Yall really think rappers cant listen or be i fluence by other types of music smh
He's smiling... Not laughing, but smiling. I dont think i´ve seen that before:D
the ultimate kick in the jugular to oasis LOL, grateful I was there to experience this in its true magic
The transition. Jay went from "family BBQ" to "concert" in a fucking second.
He knew that, if he came out with a guitar they would mechanically tell him "OK...now play Wonderwall"
This is the best rock and roll Glastonbury headliner I've ever seen.
It's priceless as I walk in without playing guitar and with the voice of liam jsjsj I love this guy, big
the smile on his face while he sings "gonna throw it back to yOuOW" is sending me
❤ totally love this one, probably the best live performance ever seen, the guy totally owns the place, dynamite x
That Back In Black live flip tho... Jay's band was deadly that night
This was pretty much when hip-hop took over rock music as the worlds most dominant music genre.
I’d say it was 10 years earlier more like 1998 when dmx and jay z became megastars

One of the best things ive seen live, he completely won the crowd over with this.
His guitar playing and singing are incredible
he's miming guitar
Will never forget being there! Can't believe this is 12 years ago!!
2022 and still iconic af .. definition of a boss move on handling trash talk. love it.
The way the band plays the song though....very good and refreshing.
Jayz grabbed that guitar like he knew wat he was doing
I fucking love Noel and Hov but my Lord did Jay win this battle with class
One of the greatest festival intro's ever.
then he ruined it when he started performing
@@Azoria4 awww a hurt oasis fan. you’re smoking crack.
Truth. He mocked his haters in their face on their own turf with their own song lmao. Legendary

Always
I love how Jay respects and loves all music. Legend.
Ya... Not sure he was showing respect with that show lol
No respect is shown here lol
that live version of 99 problems is insane tho 🎸
Sounds like RAtM
It's giving rage against the machine and beastie boys
Damn his backing band fucking killed it and he sounds great with them
Jay-z was singing like the drunk uncle who brings wine to all family functions
Drunk uncles don’t bring wine to the function. Looks like someone doesn’t have a drunk uncle
That was the point. He was mocking Noel Gallagher for looking down on him. He flipped the script if you will.
This has to be one of the most iconic glasto headline acts of all time. Everyone was writing jigga off. He absolutely smashed it. Great gig.... BTW where can we watch full glasto sets from previous years? Anyone know?
I remember the drama behind having Jayz headline Glastonbury. Noel Gallagher went nuts front page of the newspaper screaming Hip hop doesn't belong on Glastonbury then Jayz starts his Glasto set like this!!! King shizzle. From start to finish Jayz's set was perfect!!
The story behind this video makes it hilarious!!!!!
Iconic. One of the best moments ever in music
Ever since I found about this on Tik Tok, I keep on replaying this. I love how Jay Z is trolling Noel lol
Only he can get away with singing wonderwall that badly
well he was making fun of Noel
yeah him and Noel Gallagher, first time I heard Wonderwall I couldn't believe how terrible that guy sounded
@@aspiringtentacle Noel wasn't the original singer, it was his brother Liam
Dunno, Liam got away with it since 96 😂
It was a dig at niel for saying Glastonbury is for guitar 🎸 players
Had to check this after listening to Jay-Z's song "Jockin' Jay-Z (Dopeboy Fresh)", and this was an awesome jab at Noel.
The funniest thing behind the context of this performance, is that he is also calling Noel a bitch and the he is not a problem to him
They will never get it lol
I caught that. 😂😂😂
"So anyway here's Wonderwall..."
Best comment
Think the premise was Noel stating that Glastonbury was for guitar music, not rap. Jay Z said fine, guitar music it is. Diss or not, the crowd still loved it
The Back in Black riff goes unreasonably hard here
Hip-Hop and Rock has way more similarities than you think.
Jay-Z was like, "Anyway, here's Wonderwall".
People don't understand how big of a moment this was. Jay-z wanted to make sure he and hip hop had a place at the table for these huge revenue generating festivals.

Dispite the feud it is worth to mention that Jay-Z was amazed about the song. So much that he did Wonderwall again in Coachella. Also he said he wanted to work with Liam Gallagher.
Love your comment. As I know this was more “petty comeback” themed, I just know Jay Z wouldn’t have done this if he didn’t actually LIKE the song.
And I feel like the intention wasn’t just to piss off Noel, but to make a point.
I feel like he was being the bigger man here by giving them what they wanted, but not just that, but showing music is a fluid, ever changing language that touches us all and brings people together.
@@madisonleigh333 completely agree
Coming back to this performance, it’s like a weird mix between trolling and paying homage
I love the Wonderwall song. And would have been singing along then going crazy when 99 Problems started

Does the crowd not realize he just dissed the fuck out of Noel on his own turf lol..classic
Glastonbury always has a huge crowd on the main stage having a blast irrespective of who is playing....but as a veteran of 25 years at the festival I can tell you that the biggest crowd I have ever seen there was Sunday afternoon in 2014 for Dolly Parton
