Belief is what we accept as true, without any evidence. Fact is what we accept as true because we have the evidence.
So if you accept something as fact and new evidence comes up to show it is not true, we discard the fact as not true. But if there is no evidence to back up a myth, we don’t discard the myth because we just believe it, for reasons that are not true.
Einstein did not say that mass warps space-time, because it was his subjective truth. He had his maths to back it up and others could independently, experimentally prove this to be true.
The problem is not that it should not bother us because someone believes something. If that belief harms us, you need to speak out. And sometimes major decisions are taken on beliefs. That can be dangerous.
Mr Patnaik should not be condescending and state that the questioner is not accepting his answer because that is not the answer she expects. He needs to face the fact that many of his arguments do not stand up to logical scrutiny.

    Some say be Muslim
    Some say be Christian
    Gita says be Human
Some say God is over 7th sky
Some say God is over 4th sky
Gita says God is within me
    Some say God Punishes
    Some say God forgives
    Gita says God supports
Indeed Vedic Culture is a Dharmic way of life, not a religion

I'd love to have a conversation with Devdutt Pattaniak one day like this, the first book of his I read may have been titled: Seven Secrets of Shiva, it was a whim years ago unrelated to anything I was thinking at the moment and accidentally catalysed my accidental learning of a language via immersion of looking for the subjective and objective truths written within the works which were born in India which have relayed the human condition in literally the MOST epic ways.

what he is telling might be the definition of Mythology. where as the question was why people call Mahabharata, and Ramayana are Mythologies why arent we calling them as History.

*Religion X* *:* Believe in God's messenger 'xyz' only then you will reach heaven else you will be punished for eternity in hell.
*Hinduism* (The world call it religion but it's a way of life) *:* Follow the path of righteousness (Dharma) with love and you will realize the absolute truth that is beyond the petty concepts of heaven and hell.
*Rig Veda* , the oldest manuscript *:*
"The truth is one, but sages calls it with different names"
I wish every religion teaches the same thing so that there were no differences and no boundations of getting *'baptised'* and *'circumcised'* in order to become believer of God 🙏

The difference between the three things: fact, myth & fiction that Mr Pattnayak is pointing at here is only about number of believers, not the belief itself. There may be other differences, but he, in this clip is pointing to this one.
It tells little about the quality of the beliefs but just the population of its followers.
This way harry potter could become a myth in a few centuries if continuous propaganda persuades generations to rally around it. It is also perfectly possible that myths of today were fictions in their own childhood days.
Similarly, if myth of today loses its followers tomorrow, it degrades into fiction, which actually happened with extinct religious myths.
So, not to put fact in the same category as the other two is the sensible thing.
Yes, fact of today can also be fiction (technically, falsehood) of tomorrow. However, that has to happen through a completely different process, blind mob won't have a role to play in that transition.

would this guy ever dare to call the jesus of any of other other prophets as 'mythonlogy' ?
per his logic, any historic event prior to his birth year is considered 'mythology', would he label them all as 'mythology' ?
the real reason why he calls it mythology is so that his stories can gain fame in the west. and he has made up this explaination so that he doesn't get bashed in india. he wants to have the cake in both the indian world and in the western world. that is why he has made up this new definition of 'mythology'.

A typical mindset of a nationalist. I can't help quoting Arthur Miles: Ask any Hindu to explain his religion, and he will wander off into a labyrinth of words from which nothing will extricate him but the end of your endurance. If you comment on his belief, he will tell you that you do not understand. “ You do not understand ” is always the last word of the Hindu.
