      I've got this lens too but this lens seems to change the point of focus with a change in the focal length. This doesn't happen with the 18-55 or the 55-200 mm lens though.

    Just bought this lens; then did some tests(all shot at F8).
    @16MM( A tiny bit sharper than the tokina 11-16 and sharper than the Nikon 18-140}
    @35mm(a hair sharper than the Nikon 35mm 1.8 DX and good amount sharper than the nikon 18-140)
    @50mm(same sharpness as the Nikon 50mm 1.8D and good amount sharper than the
    Nikon 18-140)
    @80mm(a good amount sharper than the Nikon 85mm 1.8D and significantly sharper the
    Nikon 18-140)
    My test wasn't the most technical but i feel it was accurate. I am very happy with my purchase of the Nikon16-80.

    Question since we are Nikon user's ...For filming ( and I have a small budget) if you had a choice between the 85mm F1.8 and the 16-80mmF2.8-4 which one would you choose? I already film with a 35mm F1.8 lens.

    Really looking forward to see your results on this lens. I would like you to show changing the f-stop in live view and in video with the E electronic iris control. I have the 300/f4E and it solves all the problems Nikon had with changing f-stop in live view on my d7100 and d7200.

    How does this lens compare to the sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 contemporary lens which is half its price in my country!! Is the Nikon worth twice the money for my D7000??

  • @ChrisKab86

    It is this lens and the D7200 a good choice for low light events like weddings?

    • @Mr_Spock512
      @Mr_Spock512 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a variable aperture lens (f/2.8 to f/4), not ideal ... for weddings it's preferable to get a constant aperture lens (ie: f/2.8 or lower). Primes with this aperture are rather inexpensive but zooms are usually very pricey.

    I have recently bought the Nikon D5500 for my street photography in London England.
    And other than my 18-55 kit lens which is great for my street photography.
    I could very much do with the 16-80 lens for the extra zoom and all round use off the lens.
    I am tempted to purchase both the 18-200 and the 16-86 Nikon lenses.

    Hi, I started my photography journey for street photography which is for personal use. Currently I'm getting request for event photography such as wedding. Im using Nikon D5300 body with Nikon 35mm 1.8G lense and 55-20mm VR2. It is a trouble to change the lenses every time. So do you think this 16-80mm Nikon lense will be a good combo with my D5300?

  • @Fishing-dm9rl
    @Fishing-dm9rl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was about to purchase the 16-80 until I listened to a review by the angry photographer who says that it sucks because of the plastic gears which makes it prone to failure but here you are stating that it's improbably one of the best General purpose lenses that I can go with. Looks like I'm going to have to do a little more research on this one. Tell me about those gears.

      I don't trust this Artoftheimage guy's reviews either ... his recommendations don't seemed based on any of his personal experience with a lens. He looks like a marketing guy to me.
      The 16-85 is sharper and cheaper than the 16-80 ... yet that guy is totally oblivious to this fact.

    Hey Matt hows it going I made up my mind and I'm getting the Nikon D750 this week. I'm going with the kit and it comes with the 24-120 Lens. Can you recommend some more glass keeping budget in mind for some All around shooting. Also will the Dx glass work on the FX body?? Thanks for your help

    • @lukemcgregor6969
      @lukemcgregor6969 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      DX glass will work on FX, but the camera will automatically crop itself to DX. Only uses the centre of the sensor and gives a smaller RAW file. I have a D750 with the 24-120 kit and I'm very happy with it, sure you will be too. I had a chance to borrow a 35-70 2.8 and a 28-70 2,8 and compare them with the kit lens. I didn't see any big diff in image quality or sharpness, especially after post processing. I think, with the high ISO capability of todays cameras, F4 is the new F2.8. For more glass to go with the 24 -120, I say 50mm 1.8g and the 70-300 vr. You'll have all the bases covered.

    I have no doubt this will be a wonderful lens but honestly I would rather get a 17-50mm 2.8 lens over it.Yes the focal range isn't as flexible as 16-80 but I think a constant f2.8 is so much better and brings more flexibility when it comes to different lighting scenarios and better control of the background.

    What the "marketing guy" in the video forgot to mention is that the 16-85mm is a much better value ... it's sharper and cheaper.
    I'll take sharpness over an extra (fuzzy) aperture stop anytime ... for low light (and better bokeh), just use a good prime lens.
