After first gear with a 6 speed.... never put it back in low it spins the shaft to fast and will eventually blow the gear box.. you can run 5 in reverse if you want don't do it forwards
Sure miss those 6 speeds when stuck and having 5 speeds for reverse. With 3.90 gear ratios 84,000 lbs gross weight was a better handling truck than kw, freight shakers or westerns.
you got that right and that first reverse.. with 4.10s I believe it has.. will just crawl back out of anything you drive into.. and like the old saying is wind it up pull it out of gear eat a sandwich then put back in gear you'll never scratch one
the right stick is for high and low setting. the left stick is for each gear. if he has a super high load he'll have to starting from a stop, then he'll start moving then switch to 1st gear high, then move it to 2nd gear then move the left stick to low for 2nd low. hell have to move to 2nd high pretty soon, then repeat
It's a 6 speed supposed to use low 1st then direct first and then just second third fourth fifth still in direct but you can run it how ever you want but don't use low in 5th.. they don't like it.. you can hear a weird whine
Ya it's a 6 speed. Usually just run the 5 main straight thru wit the compound in direct and use low when heavy was just screwing around for a video. The switch is for the jake the fuel rail on the pump won't short the circuit
@@Internationals1854 It doesn't matter when the engine revs up and is killed down with the engine brake, the push rods take a hell of a shock. Mechanics love the money they make when people shift with the engine brake on.
dynatard not a jake,used to slow the engine between shifts so the truck don't lose road speed before the motor slows to enable a shift,used mostly going up hill,only use lo in first on that main stick its a crawl gear,then select direct in first,then use the rest of the gears on the main stick,do not use lo unless in first gear!its a six speed not a splitter,im surprised at guys who get repeat "H" patterns wrong even calling it a splitter?

I loved driving R’s. The 6 speed really fit the engines torque curve.

What is the switch you flip on the dash panel? What is right and left Sticks? What gear ratio in rear ends?

Yes sir the twin stick 6 and 12 speeds outlast any other trans behind a Mack motor.. the ratios where built for the full torque band of them motors

Using the engine brake to shift gears kills the hell out of push rods. It's for braking not shifting.
