Hello everyone, MT here with the usual trainspotting action. Simply of collection of my shots of the Intercity 125/Class 43/High Speed Trains operated by the East Midlands franchise, both East Midlands Trains operated by Stagecoach and East Midlands Railway operated by Abellio.
Mainly focusing on the Paxman VP185 sets but also featuring the MTU sets that were taken over from Grand Central. Many people will say that the VP185 engines are the best sound of any of the HST power cars and I agreed with them mainly on how they sounded when they speed pass close-up.
All of this was filmed at several locations on the Midland Mainline and East Coast Mainline, mainly at Leeds and Nottingham.
At the moment, they operate services between Nottingham and London St. Pancras along with limited peak extensions to/from Leeds. Furthermore, when Virgin Trains East Coast was operating, they took control of a few East Midlands power cars on some of their services, mainly between Leeds and London King’s Cross.
Hope you all have enjoyed much of your time riding these considering that their days are numbers considering they are going to be replaced by ex-LNER HST’s before the end of the year until they themselves will be replaced by the brand new Hitachi Class 810’s in 2022. I first traveled on an EMT HST in October 2019 and never realised the Mk3s hadn’t been refitted like the LNER sets. I found them so uncomfortable in comparison, but it was cool to see what they used to be like. I think people will see a big difference with the ex-LNER sets 🙂
