One more additive on the scale of the parts from a truck parts guy. Semi tractor tie rod tubes are typically 2” outside diameter and sledged down for correct thread size of 1 1/8” for 12k axles, and 1 1/4” for 20k axles, with notable exceptions. The kingpins will be sized in the 1 3/4” to 2” range in the same respects. The tie rod tapers to the spindle arms wouldn’t be larger than 1 1/4” also.
In the scale perspective of the 1/25 trucks we build, the thinner tie rod tubes and spindle arms are to scale for a correct 12,000 lb steer axle under a semi tractor vs a 20k under a theoretical mixer or heavy haul truck.
In 1/25 scale, even the heavy stuff wouldn’t be as thick as the Pete axle you made steer as I did in 1989! Some of what we do in those modifications do fall into scale.
If you are building a Revell Germany Kenworth W900, the steer axle is a very weak piece out of the box for a stone stock build. You have to be cautious as you mock, build, repeat.

Take the knife handle apart and give a fine grinding shortening of the tapered bit holder at the end opposite of where the blades fit…..or if the blades fit an Xacto handle, find an airborne solution for the lower quality handle problem, file 13 style.

LOL. you have just made an easy mod so difficult one doesn't want to bother with it or buy, buy, buy. no need for all that difficult cutting. fab a new spindle with knuckle arms. cut off the excess plastic on the axle. pin the new fab in place.
