    Those scenes in _Flashbacks Of A Fool_ featuring this song were very memorable. Including the final scene. Good movie, highly recommend it. Good perfomance by Daniel Craig.

    Roxy’s first five albums are untouchable, so far ahead of their time. I’d recommend Out of the Blue, searing guitar work! Mother of Pearl as well....

    The first album I ever heard, when I was 12, was "For your Pleasure" and I was hooked.
    Then I got the debut album Roxy Music" .
    I am now 61 and still think those two albums are totally unique, full of energy, and just inventiveness.Bloody brilliant.
    Try ,Beauty Queen, from the For your pleasure album.
    Very strange , or if you dare listen to Strictly Confidential, from the same album.

    Roxy Music All The Time, Any Time!!!
    A line from the movie "Flashbacks Of A Fool" "How Fantastic Is This Song! How can you choose between Bryan Ferry and David Bowie? They're Gods!"
    My late husband Rodney introduced me to Roxy Music on November 8, 1975, I was already a Bowie Fan.
    It was the first time I heard "If There Is Something"
    My eyes teared up with this scene, as we used to do a similar act to the song "If There Is Something" ❤
    There are so many Roxy Music songs to suggest. You've got a taste of their sound. Try "Oh Yeah" another song from "Flesh and Blood"

    I grew up in the 70s with Roxy Music. I am from Wales UK. They were my group. I was a member of their fan club. They were progressive rock and influenced many bands of today. Their debut album, with which this song is featured, is still considered one of the best debut albums. Their first two albums featured Brian Eno. As far as I am concerned there are two Roxy Music. The early and the later more romantic stuff. I am a fan of their earlier music, but all is good. Avalon is considered a masterpiece. Have a listen to in Every Dream home a Heartache. They were ahead of their time. By the way, they are better than Bowie. Controversial

    • @lemming9984
      @lemming9984 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. There were two Roxys. The first 2 albums were their best, the next three were good, but after Siren Ferry's ego took over and Roxy were just his backing band. They became MOR, and Ferry a matinee crooner. So sad.

      Being an old git, dancing in the local disco to A Hard rain’s gonna fall, Virginia Plain, 2HB and not forgetting love is the drug.
      I had Roxy Music-Roxy Music on vinyl in the early 70’s Phil Manzanera , Andy Mackay and Brian Eno. Loved it and bored several girlfriends with it. “Just listen to this again and again”?

      Thanks, Stephen. The way Ferry literally screams those first 7 words . . . ahh . . . still makes the arm hair (what very little of it I have) stand up on end. So brilliant this band was.

    Wow! I had the same kind of experience with that movie! I already had a collection of Roxy Music on cd, but it was a collection of songs of all their late 1970s and 1980s hits. But when I saw that scene of that movie, I was just blown away! And I was already into David Bowie's early music, and they were a great follow up when it comes to music. Later on I bought their first few albums.

    I love this song. Starts off in Nashville, travels to a Persian market, thence to an English country cottage & finally to the country of his lost youth, where they do things differently, with a voice full of yearning & loss. It's playful (always puts a smile on my face) but the parody becomes real by the end & is really quite moving.
    The whole first album is full of odd, interesting stuff (Sea Breezes begins & ends like one of Vaughan Williams' Blake song cycle). Stranded is superb; in fact all their albums are, but they got more polished & less experimental as they progressed.

    • @intothemusic908

    Virginia Plain, their first (non album) single is my favourite single of all time. Pyjamarama their second single (also non album) is almost as good. These singles really stood out amongst those by all the Glam bands of the time.

    I have my own personal list of 10 records that i wished i could go back and listen again for the first time. 3 of them are Roxy Music tracks. I never tire of listening to this track, it just still hits hard for some reason i can't explain. My other 2 Roxy tracks, Ladytron and Mother of Pearl.

    I was 16 when the first Roxy Album came out. Most, most people just
    didn't get it. I only knew about one other person who was into it. For me it was a revelation of avant-garde rock. It was difficult for them on their first USA tour I think. It didn't fit with the music scene there at the time at all. It was so great they had the confidence to do what they were doing, despite everything. Plus the help of one or two enthusiastic music journalists too.

  • @russpaxman3660
    @russpaxman3660 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What I like about this reaction, is that you can plainly see what he thinks of the track in his expressions.
    Non verbal communication. And I share the same reactions.
    The first part is not to my taste, i won’t say shit, as it may have been put out there as a possible singles track at 3:40 for a 45rpm single vinyl record ?
    The second part is difficult to take seriously because of the warbling vocals , though the sax, guitar, piano and drumming makes up for this.
    The third part, takes me back to nostalgia. Bittersweet melancholy. Mesmerising and enchanting.
    And I can see in the reviewers eyes, that it also impacts him in a similar way.

      @@intothemusic908 Huzzah. Also apparently Ferry came in with all the lyrics written over night and just put them down to teh amazement of the band. It takes 2 mins to get going and then turns into this amazing performance. I've always thought people don't cover Roxy as they can't. No one covers Eno or Ferry!
