Your dad was 4 years older than I. I served 20yrs in the USAF but never went to Nam. I lived through Floyd Music as he did! Pink Floyd is not just music, it is an experience! Please keep Floyd going, there is so much more to hear! Thanks

You should check out some of Pink Floyd’s 1994 PULSE live performances. Every song from Dark Side of the Moon is performed at Pulse.

Dark Side of the Moon is a concept album and that's why there are sound effects included which had really not been used before. It's actually supposed to be listened to from beginning to end non-stop, that's why there are no pauses between songs. It is so great to share music like this with the younger generation. Another good song to introduce PF's style with is "Wish You Were Here".

I don’t think age should dictate what decade the music is from. Never got that. I’m a kid who grew up in the late 80’s early 90’s. I love The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Nirvana etc. Good music is just good music.

I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971
and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times.
Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday.

Momentary Lapse of Reason album had 3 songs that stood out to me, not in any particular order. The title track "Momentary Lapse of Reason", "Learning To Fly", and "One Slip". All very great songs IMHO. There's scores of Pink Floyd material I recommend you should delve into. The entire album "Wish You Were Here", is another great album.

Great to see someone else who enjoys the Momentary Lapse album and requests reactions from there. I don't mean to come across as "that guy", I'm just curious as to which three songs you're referencing. Learning To Fly and One Slip are fantastic songs and highlights for me as well. There's no title track for that album though, and the song where he sings the album name in the lyrics is One Slip. Could you mean On the Turning Away as the third one? Yet Another Movie, maybe? Sorrow? My curiosity is high here. Cheers from Canada!

I was your daughter’s age when I first heard Pink Floyd in the early 70's.
PF has a unique style that is easily identifiable but is very flexible in that no two songs are the same.
Pink Floyd albums are "concept" albums. What that means is the whole album has an overall theme or story to tell. In other words, a concept album is like a novel where each song is a chapter.
The nice thing about PF is their albums and songs are enduring and remain relevant from generation to generation.

Sadly, the depth of meaning and reflection, the emotion, the love and passion has been sapped from a lot of today's music. One of the reasons Dark Side of the Moon is one of the best selling albums ever is because of its deeper, questioning content. People are deep and complex, and Floyd examined that in droves. Great stuff.

Your Father had to be cool ~ we may well have crossed paths ~ I too am a child of his era ~ I did my share of marches & grassroot organizing ~ My favorite quote from King is "If there is nothing worth dying for is there anything really worth living for" ~
I was never a hippy ~ I was much too radical ~ Alan Ginsburg was cool, but we had a lot of great writers ~ Do you ever listen to Woody Guthrie or Phil Ochs?

Lots of people react to Dark Side of the Moon in two reactions, side 1 then side 2. Since the songs flow together and it's a concept album, that's the best way. btw, I like your daughter's stuffed opossum.

Very "good on ya" for curating your daughter's music. I ('63) curated my children's (Thing One '98 & Thing Two '00). My parents (Silent Generation) curated my reading. There is a great deal that your daughter can learn from music and bit of guidance until she gets a bit older is an excellent idea but headphones for her would help ;-)

🔺️ - I'd say, if you really like psychedelic rock, you should look into Pink Floyd's first album "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and their early singles that feature Syd Barret. They are truly groundbreaking psychedelia. Unfortunately, Syd had serious mental issues and had to leave the band during the recording of their second album, "A Saucer Full of Secrets". There is a bit of his work on that album as well. After that, the rest of Pink Floyd's catalog is also great!

There is no current popular artist that's fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Pink Floyd. Yes there's still some great music out there but it's under the radar. A lot of people today think Taylor Swift is the preeminent musical genius of all time.

Liked your intro--What you tell me is that you're kind of a Forrest Gump kid (dad was Vietnam vet & mom was hippie). My favourite from Dark side was Time (take the lyrics version & listen to it over time--I first listened at 12, then 22, 32, 42 & now 52). The lyrics take a different meaning every time, which is the essence of this song. For a better experience, try to get your hands on the entire album, as it was designed without silences between songs, as a giant 40+ minute song. Try it & you'll understand what I mean. I was lucky enough to have tickets for the Pulse tour, back in 1995--even more amazing to listen in a full capacity stadium. Have a nice day.

"Money" audio only version would be better for Badger than Comfortably Numb.
    or
"Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)"
As both of these have more going on. Especially Another Brick which has British School Children singing 😉
