I think with a lot of us, maybe I shouldn't speak for others, but Bowie, Reed, Roxy were like a holy trifecta. I'm forever grateful to my big brother for forcing this music on me. Thanks for this guys, a great song off a great album
You know you’ve listened to something special if you remember the very first time you ever heard it. I remember exactly how, when and how I reacted to it. The opening with the oboe came in on the radio and the station wasn’t coming in clear. I stopped what I was doing and immediately began recording on tape and when I heard Bryan Ferry’s unmistakeable voice, it was like hearing something from another time. The violins outro is everything. I imagined a bird racing through the sky, zig zagging and then disappearing in a flash.

@@roxymusique9596 Just having another look at this list. I would take off 'Psalm' 'Just Another High' 'Beauty Queen', and 'Serenade'. Of those four songs the only one I actually like is 'Serenade' but although I think it's a good song I'm not sure if it belongs in the top 30. I would replace those four with (not in any particular order) 'Casanova' 'Bitter-Sweet' 'Sunset' and 'Chance Meeting'. I'm particularly surprised that 'Bitter-Sweet' and "Casanova' didn't make the list.
Roxy music, often described as underrated, no they are not , they are rated very highly. What they are is underapreciated . How this band never made it big time really big time in America is something of a mystery, they do indeed have a large following in America, but not as big as they should have, but with guys like you showpiecing them then maybe they might get more attention. It just leaves me to say that without doubt Roxy Music are one of the best and most influential bands to come out of the UK for me they are fan funkin tactic , love them , Ferry us a genius..
Really loving these Roxy reactions! You guy's so need to check out In Every Dreamhome A Heartache.. and A Song for Europe is haunting and just absolutely incredible as well
Roxy Music were a massive, stylish, unique band that were also style icons as well as fantastic musicians in the U.K. All their songs are great, try Street Life, Pyjamarama,, Same Old Scene and the many others. This one, Out of The Blue is my favourite., BW
Saw Roxy preform this song on the Midnight Special and you are right about Eddy Jobson. He played an electric violin solo on this soaring song. After I went out and bought the album "Country Life" I would have been 15 years old at the time wanting to hear the whole album and the entire record is just as good. I amazed my friends who really thought this record was innovative as each one walked in the room the first thing they asked was "Who is this?" (in a good way) In my opinion "Country Life" is best Roxy album with everything clicking on all cylinders.💙
I'm a big Hawkwind fan and I've always loved Roxy. The first time I heard this I was astounded because it sounds so much like a song called Assault And Battery from Hawkwind's 1975 album Warrior On The Edge Of Time. Trust me, the resemblance is uncanny. Country Life the album this came from was 1974. Hawkwind had to be listening to Roxy.
I wish you guys would listen to some Brian Eno (former Roxy band member). When he left Roy's sound changed. Recommended songs "Baby's on fire" "Taking tiger mountain" "King's lead hat" "Needles in the camel's eye" "China my China" "Third Uncle" Etc Etc Etc
Just downloaded the TH-cam app to comment. You guys have been fed some great songs so far. You need check out; Arctic Monkeys - Four out of Five (Newer song, about 18 years newer than ‘I bet you look good’ - very Bowie) Radiohead - Burn the Witch Damien Rice - Trusty and True (Arte live version), because it’ll blow you away. Much love, I’ll recommend you guys
Another song you have to experience is Brian Eno’s Baby’s on Fire, it’s wild, and has a smoking hot guitar solo from Robert Fripp, trust me, it’ll change your world! 😀
Don't know if anyone has mentioned it but Bryan Ferry founded the band. He was always going to be the frontman and singer and not just keys The first couple of albums were all his songs. Phil and Andy started having co-writes with him from the third album onwards.
This influenced pretty much all New Romantic (Duran Duran's whole oeuvre derives from this one song) and much of 80s synth pop. To think it is from the early 70s. Genius. Roxy Music is the most underrated band of all time.
After I dropped our reaction, I watched Ferry being interviewed a few years back by CBS, and Mackay's name was addressed the right way. And I immediately thought 'Uh Oh.'
@@intothemusic908 It’s worth listening to Same Old Scene though - apparently Phil Manzanera owned the first chorus pedal in the UK and Same Old Scene was the first song to feature chorus pedal.
@@roxymusique9596 'Same Old Scene' is unique in my love of Roxy Music in that it is literally the only song they did after 'Siren' that I count as one of my favorite songs from them. I'm not a big fan of their post 1975 material but 'Same Old Scene' is a great song. It's an anomaly for me that stands on its own.
@@vambo13257 I'd like to agree with you vambo - however, I don't. BF sold out imo - the style and grace he possessed with the first 6 Roxy albums evaporated post during release of Flesh & B, albeit a goodish album it's c/rap compared to the previous masterpieces. In your mind..yep good..again, low grade in comparison to the genuine Roxy stuff. The 80's albums are unlistenable for me and cheap poppy pop, fine if you wanted to make tonnes of cash I suppose...which as a solo artist he did by the bucket load LOL.
So why is no more phasing effects used? Has analogue hardware/mixing equipment changed so much? Or is it considered being too cheesy? What have we lost and why? Or do we are surrounded by lame dullbrainz at the controls?
i really love how you two love roxy music so much. rm is freakin awesome - every listen brings more goodness.

Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Roxy Music are the absolute heights of pop music development in the last fifty years of which most others aspire too.
How could you have lived so long and not been so aquainted with the early years of Roxy? Nice collection of guitars btw

One of the best Roxy tracks and even better live. Cheers from the UK..
The "viva roxy music!" live version of this song is in my opinion the best recording of this song. The live atmosphere makes it so powerful.
I concur, listen to the live versions on "Viva", very powerful stuff.

I’d recommend Editions of you, both ends burning, and Every Dream home a heartache...pretty much anything from their first five albums is a classic!
Yes it has to be Editions of You next, Eno's finest moment with the band and the best synth solo in music history!!!
@@alaska_uk1303 absolutely agree. Eno's finest moment and best synth solo in music history.

Duran Duran derives from Same Old Scene.
Nobody gives the bassist enough credit on Roxys stuff.
oboe and sax is so cool
Digging the Smiths t-shirt!
There’s plenty more from the first two albums, with ENO. Remake Remodel, Ladytron, Virginia Plane, A song for Europe, The Bogus Man …
In my opinion
1) Country Life
2) For Your Pleasure
3) Stranded
4) Debute
5) Avalon - this albumis very good but more like easy listening music
Mackay is pronounced Mack-eye

The late great John Wetton
It's actually John Gustafson who plays on the album.

Have a listen to Both Ends Burning 🔥🙂
“ if there is something”

Check out a live version, more immediate, more kick in the drums and Eddie's violin solo is clearer.
Should look at:
Echo and the bunnymen- the cutter
Jake bugg
The jam- entertainment
The Jam, That's Entertainment
Echo and the B-men "My Kingdom" would be another great one. I do like the three you picked, top class.
TRY THERE VERSION OF THE BIRDS 8 MILES HIGH
Roxy at their finest before BF decided to make pop music🤩

Brian Ferry was dating super models and married Jerry Hall
They changed bass players every album. Pretty much ignored by American radio. Miles & miles ahead of their time.many still haven’t caught up
