I am shocked to know this is actually a thing. Really, I am very shocked that there are so many animals (such as flying squirrels) I've never heard of until very recently...
There are really tons of animals we haven't seen. Most of the unique ones are probably in the deep ocean, jungles, and isolated caves. I'm especially interested in deep ocean animals.
Krusty Kraken i hope we humans dont discover anything in the deep ocean. we tend to fuck up things and cause extinctions. look at Madagascar now. half the rainforest has been destroyed to make way for tourist.
***** Yeah, that does happen. We could scan them without affecting their environment, but I don't care if we cause the majority of species to go extinct, so long as they aren't reasonably intelligent. Dolphins, for instance, are pretty bright. They deserve to not be bothered. But other animals aren't very important. We could gather DNA from the species that might go extinct and repopulate them. Dodos will probably be one of the first projects when cloning is cheap. As far as losing variations of life, it isn't a big deal. Eventually we will be able to bring people back to life, because the universe is linear, and with a sufficient model of the universe, you could effectively rewind time and see what happened before, as well as locate the particles that once constructed something and put it back together. Nothing is ever destroyed, and in a hundred years or so we'll probably be bringing people and species back to life. So, the only thing I would personally have issues with is killing intelligent life, otherwise pretty much everything we do is ok.
Dr. Dollar is a cool guy. To answer some people's question about why he ran and whispered, I would say he left to reduce stress on the Fossa who was probably extremely upset when he got a dart in the leg.
I found the video interesting, but for people like myself who decided to watch a video about the fossa, it would have been a little better to have had more footage of the fossa and not so much footage of the person researching them! I mean yes, that guy is doing a wonderful service to the fossa, but they could have let him talk over footage of the fossa and showed more footage of the fossa while it was being examined. Just my two cents....
fossa! one of my favorite animals (next to the honey badger of course!).. it looks like a cat, dog, weasel (basically all the top mammal predators)... madness!
determining that they are an apex predator that will be population controll for anything on the island and showing that they don't just have one tiny thing in one tiny corner can give you a better idea of needing to conserve everything in the island ti keep them healthy, you could use them as an "indicator species"witch just means you guess better about everyone from what's happening to them
I have one as a pet. I thought it how to fetch me a beer and how to open it with its jaw. Yes, it has develop a taste for alcohol. Thus, I must ask it to bring me two beers, one for it and one for myself. :P
the fact Humans (Homo "Sapiens") are not native to Europe/Asia EURASIA makes us moving back to the point that no such animal as us will come back trough evolution. Only Neanderthal (I don't want to say scientific words for this species, because there are arguments over the methods used, to what it belongs)... neanderthal was infact native to these areas, Sapiens came in and Neanderthal extinct, they where replaced by Homo "Sapiens". There status of non native definitly made the point.
@xXxLostSoulxXx1 It seems so...I sometimes wonder if these animals have a 3rd eye to know to do their best to hide - from us - as much and as long as possible.
@Grevlo Well, all things are possible. Irregardless, a million bucks says that a giant squid or one of those godzilla-looking angler fish at the bottom of the ocean could tell ya yea or nay on that. Just have to figure out how to talk to em. Which could take a minute.
Evelyn Lowe they aren’t in the cat family. Wtf are you talking about? Fossa is related to the Mongoose and is in the Eupleridae family NOT Felidae which are cats.
@@Fhall0ween I think Evelyn means they are related to cats because they are in the suborder Feliformia, which is everything closer to cats than dogs. And they never said the fossa is a member of Felidae, they even stated they aren't true cats.
OH YEAH THAT ANIMAL WAS WHAT THE LITTLE RODENT-LIKE ANIMALS IN MADAGASCAR THE MOVIE WAS SAYING LIKE "THE FUSA! THE FUSA! THE FUSA!" JUST CHECK OUT THE MADAGASCAR MOVIE.
@Grevlo Yes, some of the ones we know about - really delightfuly bizarre animals - seem like elegant holdouts from prehistoric times. It would be even cooler if we find some monsters or something. Who knows haha?
@scottclements78 The real problem is that Humanity Knows very well what it has to do to save most of the Species are in danger yet wont because there isn't a real profit in it!!!
Each similair, species will develop further if needed or possible/relevant.. So when one extincts, another can take it's place directly or slowly trough speciation.... so replaceble yes, but quick... could be.

Hyenas come straight from Civets not Fossa. This might be what ancestors of cats might look like though.
fossa! one of my favorite animals (next to the honey badger of course!).. it looks like a cat, dog, weasel (basically all the top mammal predators)... madness!
camera man: "why are we whispering?"
Beautiful animal.
He's going to have a treasure trove of information about a recently-extinct species. That's a depressing way to frame it.
catdog?
thats a pretty cool cat.
Dude its not even a cat in the title cat is in quotations
