Just took a trip to the ER a few days ago. Was unhooking a bass and it flinched. He was hooked at the tail of my lure and I was hooked in the middle. It was sunk deep like yours. I finally got the bass released. When I walked into the er I explained that I caught a 2 lb Largemouth and a 200 lb Loudmouth on my 2nd cast of the day.
Lol. The one lesson I learned is to carry needle nose pliers. I don’t want to go through that again. And I was numbed up. Your experience was agonizing. But while watching the video I was thinking, “I’m right there with ya brother. “ Just like you mentioned, if you do a lot of fishing it is going to happen at some point. :D
I carry disposable scalpels now. Way easier to expose the barb and then pull it back out. Just had to do it for my son. No more of that push through stuff. Hurts too much.
Earlier today I hooked my pointer finger right in the middle of my finger print so I couldn't easily thread it through to cut the barb. Luckily my fingers were super cold and slightly numb because of the snow, so using my needle nose pliers I yanked back the way it went in with a quick curved jerking motion. It left a small chunk of flesh on the barb, but it was over in about 10 seconds.
I did the exact same thing yesterday on my left hand ring finger on the outside part. It was a small treble hook like yours. In my case though it was in deep to push it through and snip off the barb. Instead i had to snip off the back near the eye of the hook and then grab with needle nose pliers and work it out the way it went in. Surprised myself that i didnt pass out, or go to the hospital. So i definitely know how you feel. Glad you got it out. Fish on man!!
I hear you. My kid did exactly the same thing as you, but with a 02 worm hook. I had to cut down to the barb and pull it back out. I bought some disposable scalpels, alcohol wipes, and bandaids that we carry in the tackle box. Not doing the push through again.
Had to do this on a kayak in the middle of Biscayne bay with the kayak in the waves. Like yours mine was buried and it was a small hook. I did the same thing pushed it through and cut the barb off
@@ClaytonDarwin a few grunts here and there. I work in the medical field and while it is true that everyone has a different pain tolerance it also depends on where you are hooked. You probably got your hook in a sensitive spot with nerves.
Just had to do this with my plopper huge treble with huge barb. Took forever to push it threw, Had my hand in ice water for about 20 mins and just went at it.
Bro your a baddddddd dude. It happend to me in the thumb far like you. Never able to push it out like you its 100% pain. Had to go to hospital. Thumbs up your a beast

Imagine You are stepping on a thin sharp nail but in this case it has barbs and no matter how you twist it it feels like you stab yourself with a 🔪.... But surprisingly it didn't bleed bad after it was removed.. unlike some of the bass I've caught...
Watching these videos because had a deep sea pencil popper in my fore arm, the rod got pulled down from a weedwhacker falling in my garage, Imagine the weight pulling into you. I feel your pain finger looks painful as hell.
I feel for you, man. It just happened to my kid as well. Big hook deep in his finger. I was able to gently cut down to the barb and pull it back out (still hurt like crazy). I now have a disposable scalpel, alcohol swabs, antiseptic in my tackle bag. I'm not going to try the push though method again.

I had this happen today with a flounder hook, I counted to three and pulled it holy blood and pain man ....

I did the same and no meat on the hook I pressed twords the barb as I pulled it out

You could have still done the string-yank technique and it would have worked

My kid got a 2 O worm hook in his finger last year, so I'm familiar. I had to cut that one out. Way more pain than mine for sure.
I tried to push the barb through but it's properly in there and I can't pull it out
