Brilliant Carl. Thanks for making an old man's day. I wish we had this in Australia. Reminds of my childhood fishing in England. First fish i ever caught at five years old was a small pike on the river loddon.
Did you grow up around Reading? There's still some fantastic pike fishing around that area if you know where to look 😉I lived backing on to the Loddon 15 odd years 2 min walk to fish 🎣🎣
@@threadie I live in Perth. Never been up north to catch Barra. I just wish they were stocked in dams down here. But this is WA and fisheries department would never do that.
I agree with the points about the decline of big pike but I think there’s another reason. The amount of lakes that have been netter to remove small fish, to allow carp to grow quicker has to play its part. Same goes for commercial match fishing venues, they don’t want pike eating their stock.
Once upon a time, all the biggest pike came from river systems. Undoubtedly carp fishing has had an effect on stillwaters but there MUST be 40+ers out there. 30lbers aren't exceptionally rare. With age comes wisdom, pike learn but forget when very hungry. Too many people seem to be more interested in instant gratification than putting the hours in. However, my PB is 14,6 caught on a Lobworm whilst hoping for tench. Good luck and tight lines to all. 👍
The second I saw a notification for one of your videos, I got super excited and rushed to get to it. Another amazing video. Keep up the amazing work! Looking forward to another one of your videos coming out!
Really agree with your comments around the current state of the UK, but its not like the Gov invest much into keeping them safe and healthy, more focused on rinsing every penny out of us! Love the channel bro!
We used to catch ginormous pike when we were kids fishing in our local river (the Wharfe in Tadcaster). They would feed on the chub and perch and were monsters! One pulled my pal off the bank and into the river once and (whilst being hilarious) it was actually terrifying, teeth like knives! But yes, over the years the pollution pumped in has killed everything off. There was an abundance of fish in that river, competitions along it all the time. Now you're lucky if you see a couple of anglers a year. Too depressing.
Carl when I was younger I was told the world record pike was in the lake where we used to camp / have a caravan. I always laughed thinking people always tell that story. We took a little boat on the lake and sat next to our boat was the biggest pike I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m 36 now and still never seen one so big. It looked like a crocodile below the water. This video brings back so many memories. I used to float fish that lake and was absolutely terrified I would catch / hook the monster.
Hahaha I lived here when my dad worked there . He built the barn on the thumbnail. Many memories and photos there when I was little but I never caught a fish, I did try but I was only 4 or 5. Great to see it still being fished and the barn still standing
I'm at F.l for a weeks fishing, arrived today, boat booked for the whole week, was here 2 years ago fishing near the jetti, first day in the first hr I had landed 15 pike! See what this week brings! Great video.
Excellent film again, Carl. Hopefully, you'll catch the crocodile of the lake in the future. Thank you for all your time and effort in making these videos for us to watch.
I wanna share a story from my childhood. It was many years ago, my father's friend brought a pike he'd caught in a local "lake" to our house to show us "the beasht". It was around 10 kilos, maybe a bit bigger.. It was longer than my leg, biggest one I've ever seen back then. He brought it in a plastic tub, filled with water.. He was in a small boat, lure fishing, had no strikes for hours, and then he caught a snag. He pulled the rod left and right, trying to unsnag the lure, when the snag suddenly started pulling him and the boat 🙂He was an experienced angler, and I still remember the look on his face while explaining how scared he was, because he didn't know what he'd caught, since there were "monsters" living in that water, huge pike and catfish... I don't remember how long it took him to bring the pike to the boat, as I said it was a long time ago. But that story I don't think I'll ever forget. When you're a kid, these kind of things leave a deep impression in your psyche. My biggest pike was around 4 kilos maybe, I had a few of those. Never bigger than that. Thank you for a fun video, packed with action, and reminding me of this story 🙂 👍 Cheers
What a great video Carl. Your style of filmmaking is my favorite on TH-cam. As someone from Alberta, Canada, I only fish for pike, and would love to go in the UK someday.

Loved it Carl - now I have to go look out my Pike gear and get fishing, thanks for the shove! Interestingly I have also caught a Tench on a dead bait - it was at one of the old brick work ponds at Burgess Hill many moons ago. I have also heard of people catching numerous Carp on deadbaits!
Bro there next to none Pike left in my surrounding waters I used to hear stories of how many there were before, but they were over hunted and are quite rare nowadays... Yesterday I caught my first Pike in the last 6-7 years and even tho it was quite small it managed to make me happy even tho I had to put my cat to rest that day... Anyway, I love the videos, keep them up!

This came just at the right time. Im gearing up to go deadbaiting for pike for the first time this winter, just headed out to the tackle shop to grab all the trace and braid needed, then this pops up! Hopefully give the carp rods some use over the winter this time!
My biggest pike was 19.5lb caught in a river one of the toughest fights I've had fishing with the current and the strength of the fish it took almost 30 minutes to get to the shore, I was knackered haha, but it was a beauty unfortunately this was back before everyone had mobile phones and we didn't have a camera with us so I never got a picture of it. Caught it on an old style spinning lure amazing fish.
This is actually really cool I have fished this lake for several years and seen many giant pike. However this year I have struggled to catch any really to the point of giving up almost entirely, definitely starting again after that action. That sauna always has lots of pike near it once I saw a 25lb one come out from there. Another thing about this lake is in the last few years they have introduced otters much to the dismay of the anglers.
Excellent video! Most places I think the size of fish is decreasing due to pollution, habitat reduction, and am over prevalence of catch-and-release culture.

Great video Carl. Would be great to have a series on pike fishing from the lake and with Ryan (if possible). You caught some great pike, but I do agree the days of hearing BIG pike getting caught is few and far between. Is it that people are keeping quiet or is it that the rivers and lakes are being polluted by the water companies and destroying stock etc 🤷🏼♂️ Keep up the content 👍
Great video Carl, hope you have a great pike season. Had 2 good pike last weekend on a brown trout deadbate. Best pike was around 10lb mark, great fun 💪🐊✌️
The greatest daya pike fishing I had ever had was back in 2009 with a friend, we fished a feeder stream on one of the local estate lakes and managed no less than 22 pike between us that day

Carl, if you want huge pike, come to lac le man in Switzerland, you can go to the geneva or Lausanne area. There are absolute monsters in there and its a HUGE lake.
Hi Carl, Great video. The large bite, in my opinion is the result of an Otter strike. Otters attack from behind and pike are particularly prone to been taken like this. The Pike is laying up ready to strike its prey and Otters sneak up from behind, they grab the pike with their claws and then try to get their teeth into the root of the tail. On this occasion I would say it was slightly off target. The rips in the fin would confirm my opinion. Someone else below mentions Otters in the lake and they are correct. The small lakes that join this lake by a series of channels have a large population of Otters, some of those lakes are a Nature reserve where they were introduced. In those lakes every Carp has been taken, up to 40lb'rs. The Tench population has declined and I have only ever caught one Bream from them in recent years. Every time I fish them I see an otter and have seen pike and crayfish remains in areas where the Otters take their prey to eat. It would also explain why your friend had a pike taken and ripped the head from the body. If you think about it to rip a fish in half you have to be pulling at both ends. A pike couldn't bite a fish in half; it does not have the strength in the jaws (like a shark does). I agree with you in that the decline of rivers has been over the last 15 years due to sewage pollution, but Otters too are contributing to the loss of big fish. I had a 16lb fish last year from a river in the same county and it was missing most of its tail due to an Otter. There are Otters every two hundred meters on that river now. Could a Pike live its life getting to 30/40lb over 20 - 30 years without being come across by an Otter, personally I don’t think so.
Its the claw marks, Otters grab from behind to prevent the Pike escaping. Its only tool is to swipe its tail to power away. If the Otter has got hold of the tail the head of the Pike sways left to right as it trys to use its tail fin...@@InteractViz
That was a great location some lovely fish there must be some monsters in there I really want to get into Winter fishing for big pike & perch up here in Scotland our rivers don’t have them so I’d have to travel to the many lochs but I don’t drive 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ take it easy n tight lines ✌🏼💙🎣🏴

Absolutely love your videos I’m a 14 year old boy who likes to carp fish and really love you to go to Baden hall in Staffordshire, I’ve been twice before and caught my pb on the smallest lake 16lb but carp over 50lb. Keep up the vids
There's a forgotten lake (very large pond) in Adirondack Park, NY with Monster lake trout !! It's spring fed off 3 mountain tops its snuggled in. Cold water runoff by the springs is steady even in hot summer months. The stream that runs off the pond is beaver dammed spreading into a marsh. You drop a flasher with a 30"-36" mono leader on a #4-6 hook with a 1" worm on it. They'll trail and nip the worm so no longer than 1". It's non-stop catch and release off the kayack for me. ITS A HIKE getting in so me and my boys would bring a 2 night tent stay. MEMERIES MADE THERE. I taught my boys on Lake Champlain it's all about fishing "IF" you catch one it's icing on the cake. BUT HERE at this spot.....it's how many you get !!!

I brought your merch, took the hat fishing and caught my first 30.9Pound Carp and 40 pound Catfish! And as always great video❤

That's awesome! Haha, really cool to hear this mate ❤ all the best with your carp fishing!! And good luck for the pike!
Absolutely love your videos I’m a 14 year old boy who likes to carp fish and really love you to go to Baden hall in Staffordshire, I’ve been twice before and caught my pb on the smallest lake 16lb but carp over 50lb. Keep up the vids
That's awesome, well done mate!!
lets see a lot more of omi and dani just enjoying fishing notin competion JOHN XX
Brilliant Carl, thanks for making this for us all to enjoy. That lake must have a massive head of Pike in it and hope you visit it again.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks mate!
Does Omi know about you, grannies and mackerel? 😂😂😂
Brilliant session.
😂 Cheers Keith, glad you enjoyed!
Cracking video n I'll be hitting my local river this winter for the pike hoping to catch a few as haven't really caught many in the past
Really enjoy the videos and variety of fishing. Nice to see pike videos as we move into the season but any chance of some sea fishing videos and tutorials. Would like to give it a go but don’t know where to start 👍🏻
I'll see what I can do! Will try and do some more sea fishing next year :)
Yo Carl. You getting so good bro. Really nice video 👊

CARL, you are a professional fisherman. For us novices and would be anglers, it would be really nice to see OMI AND DANDI FISHING TOGETHER, NOT IN COMPETION, JUST ENJOYING THEMSILVES AND NOT ALWAYS GETTING IT RIGHT JOHN XXX
