    You know what they say, if aint red leave it in the shed. Thats the rule on our farm. Now, if it isnt red and it is outside in the first place, no judgement. You gotta do what you gotta do.

    Nice looking tractor and yes it's great to have your own. I'm currently without one myself but I'm looking for an International 504 Utility. Thanks for sharing and wish you the best with yours.

    One thing ya need to know. The torque amplifier only needs to be operated in low range when pulling something and ya need more power. NEVER go from low range to high when going down a grade, you can blow the TA. It is normal for the tractor to free wheel in low range when going down a grade, won"t hold back. Keep the TA in high range "Forward"for normal operation.

    Looks to be a pretty straight tractor and the engine sounds good. Good luck. Make sure you put that torque lever in the forward position when going down hill otherwise you will ruin the torque amplifier.

    I love vintage tractors and this looks like it should do a good job for what you want to do. The red paint and patina matches the baler real nice. Get the manual, study it a little, and you should be in good shape. Good luck.

    Your video popped up in my recommended videos- first time watcher here. I had to laugh though because I recently purchased a new to me tractor (haven't made a video of it yet) and one of the tractors I was considering was the one you bought- came from Hoover tractor if I'm correct. I live in Northeast PA, so not too far away from there. You can get a reprinted manual from Peacefull Creek Manuals. I always buy the manual for any older tractor I purchase. So much useful info in them. Good luck with the tractor and I look forward to seeing more videos on it!

    The 504 is a good starter tractor. But the early TAs didn't hold you back going down hills. So I don't remember if the 504 does. Check it out before you get a load that will push down hill and through a fence. Tom

      Thanks for that advice! Definitely don’t wanna be going through fences ! I have noticed it does tend to speed up a tad going down hills and maybe that’s the governor not working properly

    I have a 504 66 vintage wide front. I use mine for running the wood processor and tractor rides. The only draw back is verrrrry slow reverse.

    • @shaffershomestead
      @shaffershomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes I wish this was a wide front however then it’s more parts to go wrong I guess

    I bought my 62 504 last fall, havent used it for anything much yet. plan on watching you to see what I can learn. Will be useing mine on tractor ride, hay baler and brush hog. Mine has wide front but narrow front has some advantage too. Turns more sharp and quicker, parks closer to other tractors. I took old gen off and installed alternator.

    • @shaffershomestead
      @shaffershomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s definitely going to be a learning experience! I will also be running a baler with it so we will see how it works! Thanks for watching!!

    If u can't get green then red is the next best thing. A bath and some TLC and it should do what u need. Dont forget to hit the glow plug before u start it.

    • @shaffershomestead
      @shaffershomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah needs a few minor things but so far so good! This one’s gas so no glow plug to worry about 😁😁

    NEVER EVER START A TRACTOR UNLESS YOU ARE SITTING IN THE SEAT!!!! No hate here just telling you it can go WRONG! My neighbor friend was killed doing just that. I'm a retired firefighter and I was called to that accident. I also farm, and one day you will get rid of your JD LOVE! 😁 If it ain't red leave it in the shed!! Again no hate here!!! Be safe and think safety!!
