  • More on Steel Wool here: • Karen Latham’s ‘Steel ...
Playing around with ‘Steel Wool’ at the Hot & Cold Big Rig Truck Show in Pratt, KS in October 2021. John said the truck needed to be moved a little, and insisted I try my hand at it. There’s a first time for everyone!

Nice job! What a thrill that must've been. I remember my first time, I was impressed to see how long the 40' trailer looked in my mirrors...

Looked good to me. Just remember that everyone that was showing you what to do was just passing along information that someone showed them! I remember a long time ago I had a very long tractor with a short dump trailer hooked to it. I couldn't back that thing up to save my life. An old guy I knew who drove many years ago yelled at me in front of a seasoned crowd ( IF YOU CAN'T DRIVE IT PARK IT!) I quickly pulled the parking brake and jumped out and told him to show me how it's done. He took the bait and me and the crowd had a good laugh. I wasn't a driver but a mechanic that has driven a good many trucks and pieces of equipment both on and off the highway. I've learned that usually the loudest person is the one that you don't want to listen to. Keep learning and develop a technique that works for you and you will have it mastered

I have days I can back a pup trailer around a $100 bill taped to the ground, from the blind side and the next day I couldn't back a 53 ft trailer into a 40 acre field Lol 😆.

The truck and trailer were bought used by Aldasoro Bros. Ranch in 1972 to haul their own sheep. My sister, Karen Latham bought the tractor about four years ago, and the trailer about three years ago. A friend, Guy Wright upon knowing she had bought the truck, located the Wilson and she then owned a truck and trailer paired since the seventies. When Mr. Aldasoro passed away, the tractor was sold. The trailer had been loaned out and set in the desert near Delta CO for about twelve to fourteen years before Guy located it. So here they are, back together and just hobby/show use only.

Hope you had power steering. Drove an old lowboy about that year with no power steering. Workout time
