Thing I don't get is the CVT is suppose to be way cheaper to fix. Transmission shops will charge the same to fix the thing as a regular Transmission. Seems like all it did was cut cost for the manufacturer.
Many Honda models ALREADY USE continuously variable transmission (CVT), including: Civic: The Civic Sedan, Coupe, and Hatchback all have CVT options. The Civic LX and Sport trims have a CVT with G-Design Shift, which helps the engine operate at the optimal rpm level and reduces excessive engine revving. Accord: The Accord and Accord Hybrid are both available with a CVT. Fit: The 2020 Fit has a CVT that is available on the LX and Sport models and standard on the EX and EX-L trims. HR-CVT: The HR-V is available with a CVT. CR-V: The CR-V has a CVT that can adapt to higher engine speeds during spirited driving. Insight: The Insight is available with a CVT. Clarity Plug-In Hybrid: The Clarity Plug-In Hybrid is available with a CVT.
They both started talking earlier this year (or maybe even earlier) about coming together to make an all around defacto EV charger for Japanese evs, and to have them spread across Japan as widely as gas stations, but ig theyre just merging like Hudson and Kaiser did in the late 50s lol
It’s crazy to hear a lot of people talk about the Nissan cvts because in the uk majority of the Nissans the new ones are mostly dct which aren’t that bad
Dude, Honda has already had CVTs for over a decade! Where you been? My wife’s ‘13 Accord decided that Neutral was the only gear it wanted to to keep at 2-3am back in the spring of ‘23 as we returned from emptying our bank account for the rate of Orlando. Good thing we were near home. The CVTs don’t get repaired, they get replaced. The cost was crazy! Luckily a local shop sourced a CVT from a salvage Accord for 1/2 the $ (at least its transmission wasn’t part of the wreck). I already had it up to “here” with the PRNDL life so when some local kid (that my kid said was kicked out of high school) drove into my manly minivan and totaled it, I got a used German sedan with three pedals. As it should be! And for less than what 1.5T Accords are going for (don’t even ask about the price of a used 2.0T Accord!). R.I.P. three pedal Accord 😢
Mixing parts is not how mergers work. You won't get Vtac Altima. What you get a consolidation of supply chains and the rebadging of the same cars, wherever one name holds higher space in a giving country. This has been done for decades with all car brands, just rarely those within the same country.
It's synonymous with the terrible and dangerous drivers. I'm not 100% sure how accurate it is but supposedly the reason why is because nissan let people with "sub prime" credit scores take out loans and more often than not, if someone has a super low credit score that means they aren't responsible with their funds and spending, which translates to people that are irresponsible. Therefore can't drive. Not to say all altima owners are that way though. Just look up altima driver memes or videos and you'll be caught up. 😂
I thought the merger was so they could spend less on production together and make more on the flag ship cars, which would also mean they could make more sports cars and not have to worry so much about the return. Kind of like why porsche, lambo, and ferrari have suv's, so they can stay afloat and still make sports cars. If that all makes sense
Nissan is buying back its own shares that Renault owned, and they have dropped their partnership with the French manufacturer. Renault has even recently stopped importing vehicles produced by Nissan in Romania, for example. I saw the article in a newspaper a few months ago😳
Just worried that Honda reliability will tank. Been slowly goin down the last several years, but this is a heavy load to carry and lots of issues to inherit

it's scary cause " reliability" aint gonna help them this time
Can’t wait for the Nissonda Zelude Nismo-R
Let them sort it out. Don't overthink it as the future itself of the auto world is shaky. We all should pray and hope for the best.
The new GTR with VTEC is gonna be crazy
R.I.P. three pedal Accord 😢
nissan with their design, honda with reliability and driving feel, and Takumi Brothers for the engine
This year really does have a weirdly crazy ending
Hood boutta be crazy with these Altima Type R’s 💀💥
Mixing parts is not how mergers work. You won't get Vtac Altima. What you get a consolidation of supply chains and the rebadging of the same cars, wherever one name holds higher space in a giving country. This has been done for decades with all car brands, just rarely those within the same country.
What's up with nissan altimas? Haven't got them in the uk, haven't got a clue
Nii San Nii san XD
This merger eerily feels like the one that resulted in British Leyland. I hope it works out for Honda and Nissan
should we call it ShiDaSan for mitsubishi honda and nissan
I think it's a good idea. Nissan has an okay track record when it comes to reliability. Honda can keep em in check
Nissan, Mitsubishi and Honda can't wait to see a car they make.
I love how Mitsubishi isn't even mentioned 🤣
Me, cousin to a Honda Fit owner with e-CVT: Yeah? So that problem is only NOW happening in the US?
Vtec altima sounds like the final boss of freeways in terms of rash driving
Hopefully this means more affordable, RWD, manual coupes
Those just dont sell well enough. Its all econoboxes, crossovers, and high hp sports cars if the company is doing well
Over the last few years apart from Toyota every Japanese manufacturer is lacking behind so its a good idea for a few of them to merge
Well Jatco can produce normal autos as well as CVT so no Honda dont have to use CVT if they dont want to save cost.
If nissan get the reliable Honda CVT’s that’s a win
An Acura NSX GTR hybrid would be crazy! Makes my baws hot thinking about it!
Hondissan Nissonda? Hissan or Nonda? I'm so confused😮
There are a few honda models with CVTs already so nissan merging with them won't make that much of a difference
just imagine an Altima hitting VTEC & Civics having their CVTs snap
I feel like we are kinda expecting too much from this merger, when renault, nissan, and Mitsubishi formed an alliance, we never saw vr38 evo x or 4b11 nissan z’s. The main crossover will be the electric cars i assume
Foxconn is headquartered in Taiwan but doesn't do any manufacturing there. The iPhones are made in Shenzhen.
Using Abe's picture holding a gun is diabolical.
Don't Hondas already have CVTs?
This is a nightmare for Honda.
Imagine a Honda JNC1 in a Skyline 🥶
