I am trying out a new way of providing information. Closed Captions, although not quite as "pretty" as in-built captions, have some advantages: 1. they can be turned off if someone is not interested in additional notes; 2. they can be translated into other languages and, 3. they allow me to upload unedited recording footage, which is definitely MUCH better for submission purposes.

haven’t played the game in years, but if i recall correctly, if you were stunned, and you clicked on an ability, and then vera heals you and removes the stun debuff, sonny will actually perform the ability

Amazing! Guess I'll come back at some point.
8:40 If I recall correctly, you can keep on the full assassin suit if you level up Vitality at lvl7. This gives Sonny 8 more HP, which is insanely relevant in this fight, avoiding the oneshot from the Sensei. It also means that in the next zone, during training, if you use exactly 1 part of the survivor suit, the Shaman of Blades doesn't exactly 3hit you. You would otherwise have 192 HP and his quick strikes or whatever they're called do exactly 64 damage. This one is not as relevant, since he can also use other abilities, but it can save a run in 100 randomly.
14:30 Using Wound on the ability bar, even though it's a slow move, is probably a good idea. Definitely stealing that. I used Smash in the previous record as a slightly stronger quick strike if focus is not an issue, which came up once or twice during the run. But Wound seems to be worth it, even in this fight, where Smash would have been useful.
17:50 Your gear might be slightly below average, but it's not that terrible. The blade chestplate is really bad for a "best item to have", and missing the other 2 items does suck, but those can pretty much always drop.
19:40 Yup, all Shamans of Life are pushovers. The reason I thought going for them was still the best move was because of that dmg debuff and the dot healing wasting time. Probably a good change.
20:30 A better filler move is just to skip the turn. Saves the full animation of a move. Also that strat for the baron was always there, respeccing just makes the fight totally consistent, which is nice. The 2 turn stun is very useful during that fight to time healing and "wound" stacks.
22:55 Yes. Killing the sniper first is a lot more consistent. And it wouldn't have been possible during this run. The reason I went for the medic first was because I oneshot the Ambassador in the previous fight, because my build was just ever so slightly stronger. The Ambassador and the medic have the same vitality and physical defense, so you can test whether or not you even oneshot the medic if you go for it. If you do, I do feel like it's worth it. Supression really helps.
23:30 Second interesting part about healing allies. All characters have a massive debuff in their odds to heal anyone if they still have allies. This is why for example Vera spams his heal once you die. And the Shamans of Life do too. They have an innate high probability to heal. Other characters that have a healing spell, like the Ghost Samurai, don't, so you'll practically never see them heal any other character. The Elite seems to be special here, they also seem to have a high healing probability, but they also don't have a spammable heal, so they can't spam their healing spell and become useless when they're alone.
23:45 This is the biggest reason I advocate for the "Sniper strat" if it's possible. If you do that, the second target is the Elite so he doesn't get 2 turns in a row. Once the sniper uses his stun and you survive, you'll most likely survive everything else he throws at you, making the remaining fight pretty much consistent. The "sniper strat" just moves the big RNG part to the start of the fight, making resets less terrible.
25:23 Thanks for the shoutout man! Also I know that strat is slower than the most optimal strat, it just limits the RNG of the last couple of fights.
All in all, a good run, definitely could get better RNG, so there's still something to play for. I'll be back at some point to try to break this record again. Right now I'm pretty busy, so maybe during the summer holidays. We will see though.

Hey, thanks for the insight, man. Very interesting to see the opinions of a fellow runner :3
8:40. An additional benefit of having one defensive item equipped is that it significantly reduces sensei's crit chance because a crit will kill you no matter what. But definitely interesting to know :D
17:50 yeah, it turns out that having top gear for the early part of zone 3 isn't THAT important - you can still get a surprisingly decent time if you get good crit-luck (rockstar, I am looking at you). But especially having an early weapon drop (either tribal or moon-struck) helps a LOT as otherwise you won't be able to get two usable weapons until after rockstar or so.
19:40 very true. Also, even if they do hit you with the debuff you can still switch back to the strat where you go for them first so it's not much of a timeloss compared to the old strats. But on the other hand, getting the quick kills is massive.
20:30 aggression has a very short animation and also a chance to make you "get the turn back" as it increases your damage by an okay amount. But I see where you are coming from and in some cases, skip turn might actually be better. But this would be something one has to decide on a run-to-run basis I guess.
22:55 this fight is definitely one of those fights that are really hard to optimize because there's so much friggin variance ... it is also one of my least favourite fights in general. But I agree that attacking the medic first (if you damage allows for it) has its merrits and is potentially faster, in part because the sniper just has to skip his turns once he is out of focus.
23:30 this is definitely true for enemies, yes, I don't know how exactly this works for players but based on observing a lot of cases where dux simply refused to heal in the baron fight, it seems to apply to them as well. Definitely something that needs some in-depth research. Also, the AI seems to be aware of its teammates actions so healing dux means that dux is less likely to do so and pally is even less likely to, which is good, because you want pally to attack :D
23:45 yes, that's definitely a downside of the "kill sniper" strat. But at least, elite isn't THAT likely to kill you as the only attack he has that can realistically 2shot you without crit hax or veradux stupidity is his stun and that one can't be used twice in a row. But I definitely died more than once to that double attack ... yeah, I really don't like that fight :D
25:23 honestly ... the main reason why I don't respec for baron is, because my ability menus are SOO bad, lol. Otherwise, there is definitely a lot of merit in doing so because it not only helps with baron it ALSO helps with paladin because it allows you to use wound 3 instead of wound 1 which is such ... so much better.
And about the RNG, I totally agree. As I mentioned, that was essentially the first decent run that got through. So there is definitely a lot of improvement (also, I changed my mouse settings so maybe that will help in the long run as well ^^')
Oh, and there is one other thing I am currently considering. I mean, I went for the "minimum training fight" strategy here but taking an extra fight in zone 3 might give you some very nice levelup timings. I will definitely look into that (iirc you did something like that in your run, right?). It would also mean that you could possibly afford getting the second bloody weapon BEFORE rockstar which would definitely help with that fight in some cases.

I much prefer the old style of commentary inside the video itself, but the captions are fine too. Nice WR btw.

Yeah, same to be honest. I mean, captions have some advantages like adjustable size etc. but it doesn't really align that well and just looks ... off. So chances are that I will go back to the old style for future uploads (or at least search for ways to make the layout align better with the captions).

Awesome. Great to see you running again. Have you figured out a non-Bio Sonny 2 run?

    • @ischmarvispeedruns7502
      @ischmarvispeedruns7502  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

haven't really looked into sonny 2 lately but I intend to do that. However, I don't think that a non-bio run will happen so soon on any% - higher difficulties might be a different storiy but I can't promise anything because running higher difficulties is ... pain :D (and bio is still bio)

Why did you sell the moonblade

if you mean moon-struck horrors: that weapon never dropped during the run or I would have used it for pretty much the entire run (except for baron because I want to switch to a "fast" weapon for that fight to outspeed paladin)
