As a Chinese, I like your video lessons, in which your teaching methods are simple and efficient with music-like pronunciation. Hope there will be more lessons coming like this.
I'm trying to learn Vietnamese by using Duolingo, but this channel is 100% better!! Much easier to hear the sounds I SHOULD be making, instead of the ones I am. Thank you.
Seth Andrew thanks Seth! Glad you like our videos! :)
FYI: For 1 AM (or 2 AM, 3 AM), you can say either "1 giờ sáng" or "1 giờ khuya". "Khuya" can be used for the time around 11 PM - 3 AM, its meaning is kind of "a period of time which is too late for going to bed"
So helpful thanks!
helpful; nice to hear the northern accent
It’s time for you and me to hang out together and practice Vietnamese together in person. Because I can learn more quickly with you.
What is the music at the beggining?
Chào em,bây giờ là mấy giờ gặp em. Tại vì mấy giờ em dậy anh,được không ? Da Cảm ơn rất nhiều về của bài học….
Xin chau. Do any Vietnamese speakers use 24 hour, or military time? In some industries in the U S, for example the medical field, many use 24 hours to document time, anything after 12 noon becoming 1300, 1400, etc.
Yes, we also use 24 hour time for example on announcements, news, etc.
Very good, I really liked it
The video thumbnails on this channel are very cute
we do try to be more creative with the thumbnails :))
thanks
What consonant or alphabet in English for this Gi in Vietnamese related to or equal to. Is it J, Z or Y.? Thanks....from Thailand...

Well, just by chance I came today to this video clip from TVO, which represents completely the "Northern Vietnamese" speech/accent/, just similarly like British accent/vocabulary compared to... American accent in the English language.
FYI, the Southern Viet 'accent'/terminology is very predominant in the South (Saigon, Cần thơ, Vũng tàu, Cà mau, etc.) even 46 years after the end of the war.
TVO teaches you solely,, and reflects only the official Hànội and Northern accent (TV, radio...). Thus, the diphtong "gi", as used, for example, in 'gia' (home/ house/genealogic, ), 'già' (old, elderly,..), and 'giá' (price $ /widowed..) is pronounced as with the
• consonant "Z" in the Northern accent/way . Thus, those 3 examples will sound as "Za", " Zà", and "Zá".
• consonant "D" , 'J', or "Y" in Central VN (Huế, Quảng Trị, Nha Trang,...) and in the South. Thus, 'da', ''dà', and 'dá' or 'ya', 'yà', and ''yá' . Mnemonic: just say with that same 'Y' or "J" like when you'd have to say 'Yeah', 'Yes' / "Yellow"/ 'Yard' in English.
Another helpful example:
'Giáo', like in 'giáo dục' (= education) and 'thầy giáo/cô giáo (= teacher) would sound like "Záo" (Northern accent/in official governmental VN nowadays) from Hanoi, but is pronounced (and sounds like) "Dáo"/ "Yáo" in Central, Huế, Thừa thiên, Đàlạt..., Sàigòn, and geogr South VN.
Similarly, "Dáo" (= a large Axe/ Big Machette,...) would sound as "Záo" in Hanoi and on... the TVO clips, BUt "Yáo" anywhere else (= including among expatrriate Viet communities around the world) !
Hope this helps, during Covid times. ;=)
hi, anyone know 18 gio ban ranh is what time?

Nice
Anh nhớ em Lan nhiều lắm😥
Bay and May sound the same...?!
try some listening exercises. You have to keep listening to different situations then it won't sound the same for you. Keep working for it! You'll get it.
Thought Kem was ice cream 😩
kem - ice cream, but kém when talking about time means X mins to Y hour (8 giờ kém 15 = 7:45)
That's a very buzzy topic, if you will pardon me this dialectological reference :)
Northern Vietnamese 😳
