One piece of advice that really helped me with piloting/dogfighting is its a lot easier to aim/fly if you turn off look ahead, camerashake, autozoom, and g-force induced head movement. It makes it so you camera isn't all the way in your lap or in weird places while fighting
This! So many little hidden tricks in the game. I have a public playlist of Star Citizen "how to" videos on my page that really helped me excel at dogfighting. Check it if you need some pointers!
On foot missions will typically say combat equipment required and flight missions will say you need a vehicle suited for combat or something to that effect. They should delineate on foot vs ship bounties more clearly though and I think they addressed that somewhat in SCL today.
The one thing about the new flight modes that i love is that you can down shift brake like in a manual car. You can slam the ship from nav, to guns, to landing gear in a very short period of time and down slow faster than ever.
I'd argue that CIG needs thoughtful feedback from players of all skill levels to help dial in Master Modes. Keep up the great work Kate. Your videos help keep the game fresh for a lot of us. Thank you!
The firebird is so pretty! I started as an RSI girlie, moved to Origin / Crusader and now Aegis are giving us pretty things too?!?! Honestly, I wasnt even aware that the stealth mechanics were this effective in game, I'm used to flying fairly large ships in combat since I didn't even attempt ship to ship combat until I got an Andromeda in game (that thing is so slow to activate quantum mode to run away if my shields get low 😭)
Star Citizen does keep me coming back for the joy of it. Master Modes changes it a bit, but NAV mode doesn't make the clouds of Crusader any less gorgeous to soar through. The Firebird's a beautiful mirror to reflect them on.
there are a couple of ways to distinguish whether it is ship or on foot. 1. You read the mission. if it says they are in a ship - it is a ship. else - on foot. 2. The payout is different for ground and ship bounty.
Another Great video showcasing what MM is like for the majority of us, something i have found is that the MM change means its far more important to use the correct ship and ship size for the Bounty you are going after small ships for lower tier bounties and the bigger ships for the higher tier bounties it really feels like now more than ever the ships intended role is important when selecting a ship for the mission ahead. Just my opinion.
I don't recall previous videos having a musical score... OMG does it add to the depth and key events such as taking down a target! I love how your videos have become even more rich with a "story" and subtle things such as Music, and epic camera shots. I truly enjoy your flying and dogfighting. Unlike pros, its pure entertainment and you never know quite how things will end up! Stealth in SC is a niche I absolutely adore. From my beginnings with the Eclipse, Evolving to the stealth F7c it is loop that constantly quenches my thirst in this game. I'm glad you made a video showing off the next evolution of stealth combat. ~ Wukits PS Way to go Sidewinder!!!!
I'm loving the Life Aboard series. They're what I dream this game could be, and you're showing the potential perfectly, despite the bugs! Thanks for all the vids!
I've only had a brief moment in flight combat in MM so far, felt okay but I too am mainly fps combat which feels really good rightnow :D the br-2 feels amazing
Really nice visuals on the f7a mk2 at the beginning :3 looked cool, I have the upgrade also but want to hold onto it for awhile see what happens too the f7a mk2
During combat your regen meter should always be 100% to either guns, booster or shields. In case you use ballistics then shields or boost, this will make evasion & defense much easier.
love the F7A...although I am tired of soo many large industrial ships spawning as bounties. Also as you mention figuring out if a mission is ground or not..is a real PITA.
I think a lot of ships spawning in is a but also, like I keep going missions at locations and a a whole bounty's worth of ships shows up even if I'm not there on a bounty mission, or I am on a bounty mission, but it's way too many ships vs normal, the super tanky industrial ships are a paint especially with ballistics, not fun spending all your ammo on one raft.
There's actually a trick to it, read the description of the mission (and the title), usually missions that say stuff like "active" or "entrenched" bounties are ground based, "wanted" is ship combat. on the description, look if it asks to provide personal transportation (ground), or if it's something like "small single seat vessel" as cues to know what is what :)
I really appreciate that in this video and the previous one, you’ve said something along the lines of, “Hey, here’s this new feature, but because of my play style, I’m not really the target audience for it, so other people may have a much different experience with it than I did.” The game is so huge, and wants to reward so many different play styles and goals that it’s great when content creators are up front about why other players might have the complete opposite experience from theirs.
I am a newbie just joined to the universe recently. Both the F7C and Firebird look so sick. The looks is actually my type of things and the Firebird goes so fast I loving it. Can't wait to see one of this in my hangar one day.
I really enjoyed testing out the Firebird I rented at Invictus. Didn't get to fight much though as I got swarmed and shredded to pieces by 5 or 6 enemies in an LRT mission. There sometimes seem to be a lot of additional enemies spawning at the target locations now. I had 4 Valkyries and 3 Cutlasses spawn at another LRT bounty mission.
I am convinced the Firebird flies like nothing else.... absolutely sweet. The visibility was awesome and was able to stay on target with the appropriate touch. I may have gone weak in the knees.
The firebird may well be my new favorite ship, i was able to rent it during aegis days and it absolutely rips in groups. Glad to see someone else have fun with it
I must admit your brief time with the Firebird has given me pause for thought about a ship I was otherwise neutral about. Thank you Kate for another informative and entertaining video
I like how the firebird flies. It’s very agile and fun to fly. The stock guns load out needs to be the first thing changed though. Abysmal dps, where you need those missiles to do their damage first before engaging in dogfights.
The Firebirds other main strength is its speed, use Nav mode to pull away from enemies. They in turn must go to Nav mode to chase (and lose their weapons) and their shields drop, that's when you turn, change to SCM and fire the missiles.
I've found that the qualifications for the bounty will specify either "vehicle outfitted for combat" or a "mode of transportation" in the text of the contract YMMV however.
Aegis has gotta be my favorite ship developer, their designs feel grounded in humanity’s more unconventional designs with lots of control surfaces and such. Really enjoy the overall look of the firebird and the saber family tho I don’t have any
The MkII has been my favorite ships ever since I started playing and I'm glad I finally have a way to get one. MM has been totally fine with me since I'm mostly into PvE and I'm used to the old ships flying like ass above SCM speeds in atmo before.
it took me a sec as well to figure out master modes, but i think it is headed in the right direction. I think once they finish it up it will be a lot better. One of best things about it is you have to pick the right ship for the job. You cant just use the arrow to kill everything and im glad that is not a thing anymore.
I rented the Firebird and loved the look and feel flying it. Salvos were great but was out of ammo so fast. New patch to double the missiles will help!
I have always done combat, but this patch cycle I chose to rent a prospector. Did 9 runs with in my 24h rental, and made 500,000 aUEC during that time. Pretty fun and relaxing for me!
Cool to see the saber getting some love. I think it would be neat to implement some kind of aftermarket override that you can install on your ship computer that allows you to throttle all the way up while in combat mode.
Really like the idea of the firebird as a stealth player in most games it has a good mix of combat capacity plus being able to hit and run thanks for showing it off!
The F7A is an awersome daily driver for me, fast and with ton of good sized guns; Just wished we could have the green UEE paint like the one the MK1 has. Also, a good tip for master modes is using the change from nav to scm for a faster braking
First time really seeing actual gameplay of the new F7 and it looks crazy seeing those 6 guns going off (plus the ship looks a lot nicer). Firebird seems so cool too :D even if im not practiced with the missiles i like the idea of how that ship plays
I am also not the greatest pilot, so I felt your pain. I think the ability to sneak within range and unload missiles can give an advantage when facing larger ships. Great video.
I'm a big fan of the Hornet class of ships, so I naturally love the mk II. I think the Firebird with its stealth will be an interesting ship, especially if you have a flight of them in a larger org battle.
I am happy that I am not the only one who crash lands like that during combat XD On another note, I feel that things are more perceivable and the combat makes more sense now with better FPS, I still am stuck at 10fps due to hardware and have had a hard time but I feel so much better with the Future PC Build that I have in mind after seeing this video. Thanks a lot for covering the combat experience you had in the Firebird and the F7A
I'm a simple man, I see F7A, I click! The Firebird looks more fun than I was expecting, especially with the recently announced buffs! I want to try using it as a type of CAS ship when I get the chance.
I really like the idea of the Firebird. I too am not a very good pilot, and the ability to sneak up and blast stuff with missles would probably fit into my playstyle very well!
I love every Hornet, regardless of Mark or Variant. I had a Veteran's Day Upgrade token from 2013 to turn a Hornet in a Military Hornet so i was thrilled to log in and meet my F7A Mk 1. I imagine you have plenty of members that can help you make a video showing off the ship, but if you want to borrow mine for a video I'd be happy to let you guys use it.
For the bounty missions I was annoyed same as you but found if you read the description the last sentence will mention something about ships or multi role ships on any of the ship bounties and won't on those that are ground bounties. I'd like it if I could tell as easy as before but for now that's how I get my combat kicks in
I genuinely hope they eventually add some kind of 3D echo map of the planets when night time hits on the planet, it's a real pain when you can't tell the distance without pinging. Even if it was like those Lidar games with a temporary layout for the time being.
The ground is by far the deadliest opponent anyone will face in SC. The Firebird's six missile salvo is cool, and I'm glad it's going to get more missiles so you can enjoy its party trick a few more times before restocking.

I see yo met my nemesis, the ground!. I thought MM was going to be awful at first but after a week or so I'm used to it now. Great content love the way you deliver.
I feel your pain with master modes. I like doing industrial gameplay and ground based stuff. As long as I can land a new ship, I am normally okay at flying. Learning combat will be tricky!
I really like the *look* of the Firebird. I'm just not sure I like its function, at least at the moment (with missiles being what they are). Edit: also, to see the pip in all the vfx spam, you can enlarge it, add some sort of precision lines and make it not disappear when you're facing the target directly. "Vehicles - Weapons", then "PIP Precision Lines Toggle", "PIP Fading Toggle", and "Gunnery UI Magnification Toggle".
I kinda understand the reason for MM, but also liked certain aspects of the old. I think a compromise is needed, give those who wants to flee a chance to disengage and actually run for it, and also let CIG work on ships classified as interceptors to be interceptors.
A problem with a lot of the fighters right now is that they dont have places to store any on-foot equipment. I think as soon as we get restrictions on what you can pilot or sit in a seat with, there will be a lot more use for dropships and heavier fighters with interiors.
One piece of advice that really helped me with piloting/dogfighting is its a lot easier to aim/fly if you turn off look ahead, camerashake, autozoom, and g-force induced head movement. It makes it so you camera isn't all the way in your lap or in weird places while fighting

Kate.. some of us still remember when you got the top score in that thargoid event in Elite Dangerous. There's a great pilot in there somewhere.
On foot missions will typically say combat equipment required and flight missions will say you need a vehicle suited for combat or something to that effect. They should delineate on foot vs ship bounties more clearly though and I think they addressed that somewhat in SCL today.

Glad I'm not the only one who forgets where the ground is... I've actualled more times than I'd like to admit
+1
When you're solo, you can pull NPC aggro and make them turn off shields to chase you. Makes those missiles much deadlier!
Do npc ships actually switch between scm guns and nav flight? I don't think I've seen that happening.

That skin looks good on the F7A mk ii
I love it :) i like white paint on my ships usually anyway but this one looks particularly good imo :)
@@Citizen_Kate i agree i have the black/gold one and the white, black looks cool, but white one is amazing

It's changed enough to keep me from doing ship combat entirely now.
love the F7A...although I am tired of soo many large industrial ships spawning as bounties.
Also as you mention figuring out if a mission is ground or not..is a real PITA.
yeah come to think of it i have been seeing a lot of Starfarers and reclaimers as bounties - is quite odd

@@Citizen_Kate CIG uses these to get data on ship resilience and combat performance, since no one is taking Reclaimers into combat in AC.
I am not the best player so I hope later iterations of mastermodes will help myself and other casual players.
The vision in the Firebird is amazing! it looked really cinematic with the cockpit being fully open and that detection range is insane
The moment of waiting for that missile volley to hit with the Firebird was awesome!

Love watching your piloting, maybe not the most technically skilled but always very immersive and enjoyable to watch
Definitely feeling the nostalgia for Elite Dangerous when watching you flying with mass drivers. Fun!
Firebird is such a cool ship, love how stealthy it can be. Glad to see they are adding a larger arsenal of missiles!!
Need to dust off everything to check the new flight model
Always good to see one of these vids pop up.

Nice, the Firebird is looking really cool. Great to see the Raven-style frame it has, always been envious of those Sabre Raven owners!
That firebird looks like a fun one! And I can relate to sometimes losing sight of the ground in the middle of a fight, especially at night :p

As usual a great video! I didn't have much time to fly this week so it's nice to get few news and updates in a few minutes!
The new sounds on the Sabre lineup are just 👌 love the design of the Firebird
Did not know that they changed theater if the bounty would be on foot or ship combat. I can finally get a sabre raven lookalike, such a cool design.
I do like the fact they added more ammo to balistics, makes the smaller size ones actually usable
CIG is honestly killing it lately! I love the F7 MkII and Firebird designs so much!

I love the Firebird. I would like to imagine flying a couple in formation doing airstrikes at Jumptown or bounty targets. Enjoyed the video ;)
Congrats to the winner of the last giveaway and good luck to everyone in the next giveaway!
The principle of master mode is fine BUT rn, it’s nearly impossible to evade incoming fire exempt for interceptor tuned ships (like the firebird)

firebird can be very usefull, just make use of the stealth and lure them to you. so they need to activate nav mode. their shields drop and you get a bit of distance between you and the ship that follows you. you drop into scm mode and fire folly of missles. enjoy!
I believe in order to target subsystems, you first have to run a scan on the ship in scanning mode.
The Firebird reminds me to my beloved fictional experimental aircrafts of the Ace Combat Series, i really need one of those
The side profile of the Firebird gives off sweet stealth bomber vibes. Would love to see a heavy bomb variant. That combined with the stealth mechanics could be deadly! Alost as deadly as the ground ;)
Hooray, you get to suffer with Molasses Modes. =P Regarding bounties, if the description says you need "ship equipped for combat" it's a flight bounty, if it's "suitable transportation and combat equipment" then it's a ground bounty.
oooh thank you for the tip that will be a huge help! :) i did not know that
I see yo met my nemesis, the ground!. I thought MM was going to be awful at first but after a week or so I'm used to it now. Great content love the way you deliver.

I feel your pain with master modes. I like doing industrial gameplay and ground based stuff. As long as I can land a new ship, I am normally okay at flying. Learning combat will be tricky!
just like the raven, the firebird is a really unique and cool looking fighter and im a huge fan of the design myself

First time here, and I really enjoyed the content! I just started Star Citizen and have been enjoying the community so far!
Firebird looks great with the upped missile counts, hopefully similar missile focused ships get the same treatment.
A problem with a lot of the fighters right now is that they dont have places to store any on-foot equipment. I think as soon as we get restrictions on what you can pilot or sit in a seat with, there will be a lot more use for dropships and heavier fighters with interiors.
Good to see a review from a less experienced pilot that's honest about it.
Great to see another vid from your Kate, still hooked from your life aboard a Corsair series!
Enjoyable vid as always. As a Hornet pilot from way back I love the new ship. I'll be looking forward to trying the Firebird now also.
