- Italian aircraft Savoia Marchetti S.M. 79 "Sparviero" (sparrowhawk) in action, mainly as a torpedo-bomber during world war two (ww2).
The SM79 was the mainstay bomber, together with the Cant Z.1007 bis, of the Regia Aeronautica (the italian royal air force) during the second world war.
Interesting scenes of aircraft preparations, takeoffs and landings, as well as some shots of torpedo-bombers attacking Royal Navy ships in the Mediterranean.
Colorized, digitalized, stabilized, AI enhanced.

My great grandfather flew in one of those, he was captain and the leader of his squadron, he had been shot down 3 times and one time he was declared dead for a week, but in the end he was found an rescued, he made a lot of photos of those years and I still have all of them in very good conditions somewhere in my house.
Azz… vorrei tanto poterle vedere e magari scansionare. Di dove sei? Io Milano
Then should be a " must do " operation to Scan It and save It for the history.
Listening to a stuka pilot interview who has served in North Africa, he said the sparviero pilots attacking Allied shipping were some of the bravest men he saw in the war. They took huge casualties but continued to go out boldly.
@@piersp38 yes my grandpa was in the Luftwaffe and I'm always asking him questions, knowing there's not much time left. The issue is they get so old they repeat the same stuff over and over :/
@@catharperfect7036 Like all the grannies of this World. However They have that " day" or moment still alive and their words should be recorded.
so gorgeous plane, i like italian aviation.
I think this warbird has got to be one of the most 'tough-arse'-looking warplanes ever to see the skies during the Second World War! ... Never ceases to give me goose-pimples when I see this plane in war footage.
I love your version of badass ❤

Loving the "Sparrowhawk", built a nice model of one a long time ago....
Outstanding.
Perfetto!
Es mio aereo amore 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Really excellent footage!
One of the greatest aircraft in military history. Certainly, World War Two's best torpedo-bomber, with the highest success rate for type. Sparrowhawks were still sinking Allied vessels into 1945. Read "Mussolini's War" from The Barnes Review Press. Terrific stuff.
Nowhere near as fast or survivable as the Bristol Beaufighter of Coastal Command.
Congratulazioni! Fantastico lavoro di restauro
Grazie Pier Sp!
My great grandfather set up the airforce in Grosseto and drove those
The dog's like "ay yo, come back with that salami!"
Anyways, such an awesome plane, shame their are no airworthy examples left.

A me onestamente non sembra

Would you consider the SM79 a medium bomber, or a heavy bomber? Excellent footage!
Thank you Erik. I think it was a medium bomber
It's a medium bomber. The extra engine gave it an edge in speed (but not in load) in respect to contemporary medium bombers.
Terrible piano playing. This looks to be a re enactment video. I do like these aircraft. A very unique styling.
I mi babbo ha volato come aviere scelto montatore......poi e' passato hai caccia!!!
Hai che?
Do any of these or the Cant Alcione survive?
Hi John, yup we have 2 sm79 in Italy in two different museum. Unfortunately no z.1007 alcione survived instead
