    Nice work . I love practical stuff like this . Solid , no screwing around . What sucks is is when assembled the shaft in car they didnt grease it up , so years later after 1000's of rotations that snap clip becomes just about fused w the housing . I always put a little grease on the end so the next guy doesnt have a hard time getting it out . Good job !

    I just want to say thank you for making this video.i too had this problem with my kids car.we struggled for hours with the crazy axle hub and i saw your video and started drilling and after many bits and a maybe a couple hours of drilling i had my holes.put an allen handle and used the slide hammer about 5-6 wacks and out it flew.

    Great video! '97 Tracer (essentially the same car), I ran into the exact same situation. A tip to your viewers: Use a slide hammer for both the driver and passenger side CV axles. In fact, if you use the hammer up front, by wrapping a chain choker-style around the hub, it will pull the entire axle out easily, without having to drill. I found the drilling to be extremely tough on the passenger side because you can't get good leverage when lying on your back under a car. Again, slide hammer with choker to begin with, easy-peasy. Great video.

      Thanks Omar. The drilling saved my rear end on the driver side CV axle, I couldn't have done it without your idea!

    Thank you soooooo soooooo much for making this video!!! I was already thinking about how I could do something like this to remove my turd of a stuck cv axle and this video gave me a direction to head in. I also made my own slide hammer out of a metal rod that had a hook on each end, a PVC pipe, an Allen wrench (for the hammer stop), and a trailer hitch for the hammer itself. It took about 8 tries, but that thing popped right out. I had to drill a hole like you did (which was hard as hell due to zero access & working space, and I used an awl/all center punch style tool for the pin. It got caught in there when the axle released from the Transmission, so then I had to use pliers and work out the pin. But it worked! Thank you so very much for this video & your ingenuity! I literally had about 3/8's of an inch for access to the cv axle under the car because the frame was in the way. It's an 02' Hyundai XG350 L. It's a great car, but a bitch to work on sometimes. Like if I want to change out the spark plugs I have to remove the whole plenum/intake. That kind of fun stuff. Thank you again so very much! I wish that I had filmed it all, but it would've been a clinic on cussing while working on a car. Have a great day and take care!

    saw another on where the guy attached a good size vice grip to end of hammer tool...with a transaction piece from tread to V/G... reached in and clamped on to same piece you did...out it came

    I'm the same with this ! Accidentally got the shits and pulled the cv out and the cup left in there. Ended up slicing my hand and busting my knuckle trying to get the cup out.
    Realised that I gave my parents friend my slide kit I bet I'll never get that back, so just went down the auto barn and got myself a new one ! Now I'm about to try this out !!
    Hope it works !!! :)

      Damn girl nice to see women getting in the shop and getting hands on experience, we need more female mechanics, their tiny hands, slender arms, and insane patience is invaluable in the automotive world xD

    Wow, this was 9 years ago. Hadn't seen this ever. Don't know if you'll answer, but I this was my idea the other day, of drilling into it. I was told the steel was too hard and I wouldn't get thru. I've always been able to remove them by using a pry bar against the usual lip on cv housing. But this one driver side does Not have a lip. The vise grip plyers way doesn't positively work. Plus there's all that slop grease to clean out before anything. However, if I can drill into it, while joint shaft is still in, and push 2 bolts opposite ends, then use axle as puller.

    Working on a 99 escort with same exact issue. Had to destroy the axle to get it to just the cup. Manipulated the transmission down with it on. The used transmission was cut out leaving the inner CV joints in place and cant get them out. Thanks for a great tutorial. Looks like I am headed to HD and Autozone. Thanks

    maybe you could use the slide hammer on the original full shaft and use a claw end to grab the axle nut, save a lot of drilling, your idea seems good but mine might work, have to do mine next week. might need a helper though to support axle while trying .

    • @WoutMusic
      @WoutMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I guess you tried, but to all those people reading this you'd pull the axle apart.

  • @Ariel3150
    @Ariel3150 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Clever but all you needed was the long curved flathead pry bar and yes, seals would be fine.

  • @jeremymorton9603
    @jeremymorton9603 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just did this job and kicked myself in the ass for not thinking about it first. The easier way I found, using a 90 degree pry bar ( like a cats claw but flat) and a flat head screwdriver. Put the screwdriver on the left between the case and the axle and the pry bar on the right. Use the screwdriver to keep it straight and pry with the pry bar. POP! Slides out like butter.

    great video Omar, can you tell me what kind of bits are the best for this job bc the material looks so hard.and if better to remove the axle with the car in neutral? thanks in advance.

    • @OmarPerez-vx7dc
      @OmarPerez-vx7dc 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just used whatever bit I had and it just went through the housing without any issues. I know it look hard, but I experience no difficulties.

    • @BlaineDEEJEE1
      @BlaineDEEJEE1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up using 6 bits. All are ruInd don't use the cheap ones. And use small tank then go up a size. 3 for each hole

    Just jack up the car on both front wheels, use a hammer with a long flat screw driver and hit it on the ridges on cv from the gearbox side out (driver side) I did it twice on two cars...both Toyota's...been there done that...just have patience and use force it will come out...

    do you know the size of threaded rod on slide hammer?

    • @OmarPerez-vx7dc
      @OmarPerez-vx7dc 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I don't remember. It was just a matter of renting the slide hammer and going to the hardware store and finding something that would screw on. Not even sure the threads were an exact fit...but it work and nothing was stripped.

    What drill bits did you use? Do you need a special kind to drill through the inner cv joint?

    • @OmarPerez-vx7dc
      @OmarPerez-vx7dc 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just used a bit from a drill bit set I have had for years. I think it may be tungsten bit, but still it is the kind of bit you can pick up at the store for a couple of dollars.

    • @DM-wp9vq

      Wow! And I thought mine was bad. You may need to (if you haven't already) make it so the slide hammer is pulling it evenly around the whole axle. It might be just pulling up or down while it's been pulled on with the hammer. I got mine out by this guy's method because it pulled evenly on two points. Maybe pull/smack it harder? I also had my car in neutral. I turned the key to the on position but didn't turn on the engine, pushed the brake (as usual), and shifted into neutral. That way the parking pawl wasn't holding onto anything & it could move freely. Not sure if that's what did the trick, or if it was just a miracle haha, but I got it out after a day of harping on it. Ahhh, shit, just saw that your comment is 5 years old. Hopefully you got it fixed by now. Take care!
