Hi Marie Just some feedback on this lotion. I multiplied your recipe and made 6 x 4oz jars for family xmas gifts. It turned out heavenly and my family absolutely love this lotion. Its smooth, silky and non oily. Scent is very mild and just perfect. Thanks again!
Hi Marie. I've just finsihed making this recipe. I added some Sodium Lactate and Honey to boost the humectants. I also borrowed your shimmer body lotion idea and used it for this recipe instead. I added some copper to the gold and bronze mica and I am "shimmering" haha. Thanks so much for your wonderful recipes. Hoping to make some make up from your Make it up book, this week,so will let you know how that goes. Best wishes fromover the pond.
Hello sweetheart, how are you; e, the current recipe is simply amazing bravo! You know sometimes I wonder how we make or that you find in your mind these amazing recipes that give us here on your Blog! is truly amazing and it's nice that adapts depending on the season! Haha! The story of the baby-sitting is very funny!
Yes, please. Lolol. I have a sister who adores vanilla. She will adore this. Me, heavier on the chocolate. 😎 I'm still waiting for the book. It needs to hurry. I have stuff to make! 💝🎄 You're awesome, Marie. I'm enjoying this. Feel free to do a pain blend for boo boos or headaches. I can use inspiration for a stick blend. 🤔
Mmmmmmmm. And YES, I'm still waiting, too! I pre-ordered a copy for myself so I can know when people start getting it :D And I do have some pain sticks on the blog! www.humblebeeandme.com/?s=pain+roller
Hi again Marie - please disregard earlier comment - after going back to my batch several times it did thicken up. I ended up with 5 small jars of this wonderful lotion. It feels fabulous and smells amazing. Cant wait to share with family for xmas.
I am confused... (Please correct me if I'm wrong)... at 2:40, right after you put in the water you mention 1/8th of a teaspoon of Silk Peptides, but it is NOT in your formula in your description box. Would omitting this If I followed your formula as you have it in your description box... wouldn't it be essential to put the silk peptides in it? Thank you for all your great video...
Honey can be a good alternative, though it will shorten the shelf life of your product so be careful. You can usually get glycerin at pharmacies for quite cheap 😊
Looks Divine! Question -- Could I omit the glycerin... I would prefer to add a hyaluronic acid? Wonder if that could work? Thank you, I Enjoy your videos :)
I'm afraid I don't have experience working with hyaluronic acid as it's crazy expensive, but I do know that you typically wouldn't want to use more than 1% HA and that is far less than they glycerin in here-using HA as an alternative for glycerin here would give you a jelloid brick containing over $10 of HA. I'd stick to the glycerin :)
Ok, Thank you very much. Just wasn't sure if the texture of each were similar and therefore I could do a swap out. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. :)
love the recipes and the enthusiasm...I have used colloidal silver as the preservative very successfully since i do larger batches that may sit for a couple of months before use...just sharing
How interesting! Have you ever had anything challenge tested? From everything I can find on using it as a preservative, it is not at all suitable/effective, but I can't find much-I suspect that is because it is SO unsuitable that most preservative overviews don't mention it, just like they wouldn't mention charcoal or celery juice. Perry from Chemists Corner says " colloidal silver is not adequate for preservation of creams" but it's really just a passing mention (chemistscorner.com/alternative-cosmetic-preservatives-what-are-your-options/). You should probably consider switching to a different, proven preservative.
Humblebee & Me I had a question in regards to this... so if the purpose is to make a healthier and less toxic version of skincare then what made you choose to use preservatives? I've done quite some research on them and with prolong use they can cause hormonal issues, skin cell issues, cancer, etc. I still haven't found a "broad spectrum" preservative that is safe. So I guess my question is what made you decide to use them in your creations? Since to me it's just not worth the risk.
@@BeautyIsInU You would rather have molds, fungus and bad bacteria in your products? Those make a product unsafe long before you can see/smell them. I'd rather take a small risk with clinically tested preservatives than a large risk with who-knows-what natural contamination.
It's a fatty alcohol used as a thickener that gives products a lovely silky slip. You can also google it; there's no shortage of information out there.
I've seen you call for benzoin a lot in your recipes, I'm thinking of getting some as well as hydrosols. Are there diff scents of benzoin or is it just vanilla scent period? If I cover my water phase in foil will there still be evap? Should I add more water in case I need to re measure? This happens all the time when I make Lotion. It evaps.
All the benzoin resinoid I've encountered smells the same, though the powdered benzoin I have doesn't smell very vanilla-y. Covering foil will reduce evaporation, yes. I usually include more water in from the start to reduce the need to add more, but if you are making large batches that require longer heating time you should be adjusting after heating; www.makingskincare.com/how-to-make-a-lotioncream-part-1-equipment-and-ingredients/ :)
Germall Plus contains Parabens. Ditch that and use Optiphen which is a paraben free preservative. Also any recipe that requires water you can substitute for Aloe Vera Juice.
No it doesn't. The INCI is Propylene Glycol (and) Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate. Not a paraben in sight! Optiphen, while also free of parabens, is not a very effective preservative: www.makingskincare.com/preservatives/. It can destabilize emulsions, is incompatible with some emulsifies/surfactants, has a somewhat narrow effective pH range, and requires to additional use of a chelator. While you can use aloe vera juice instead of water, I wouldn't do a 100% swap-that creates a preservation challenge. I'd recommend keeping aloe vera juice at 20% of the recipe.
I think you're probably thinking of Germaben, which is a paraben containing preservative. Every single Liquid Germall Plus I have ever seen will be that exact INCI; that's how INCI's work haha. That's sort of like saying the apple you were buying was a pear... if it was a pear, it's not an apple!
Humblebee & Me 😱 I do have it confused. You are right the Germall Plus Liquid does not contain Parabens. Thank You for clarifying otherwise I would have been stuck in 'confused' mode
Hi Marie I hope you see this .... I need to make 6 jars of this cream to give as xmas gifts. I multiplied your ingreds by 6 each and now it is off the heat, blended and it isn't thickening? Its the consistency of dairy cream. I did comment on your website to inquire about multiplying this recipe but I haven't heard back from you. Please respond and advise. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for another great recipe! I was wondering if I could use Hydrolyzed Oat Protein liquid in place of the silk? It has similar moisturizing properties and adds a similar "velvet" texture when applied to skin? Thanks :-) Also, I'm looking for my very first hand blender... there are SO many options, and reviews are so varied for every model it seems. Do you have a couple favorite brands/models you could suggest please? I noticed you use a plastic version, is there a benefit to this versus stainless steel? :+)
Thanks for watching! Other hydrolized proteins make fairly good alternatives for silk in lotions and other things where we aren't totally smitten with silk (like for hair-I looooove silk for hair). For immersion blenders, I have this one (amzn.to/2gAM8tf) from Braun, and for some reason it's rather expensive... I got it from Value Village for about $5 haha. I've always had good experiences with Braun in general, I love their coffee grinders for DIY makeup as well. For plastic vs. stainless steel; plastic can hold onto smells more than stainless steel, but I've been working with that Braun plastic one for well over 5 years and I've used it in many the heavily scented thing, and it's still fine! Hope that helps :)
Marie .. I know this is an old post .. but what about using vanilla fragrance oil? Will that turn it brown? I have a huge bottle that I’m dying to use in lotions - I use in cp soap and it does turn it brown ( unless I use vanilla stabilizer) so is it the same for lotions? I thought I saw a stabilizer for lotions??
I'm afraid vanilla fragrance oil isn't a thing I've worked with enough to know, sorry! I would probably say to go ahead and use it, because who cares if the lotion turns a bit brown, but that's just me :)
So for those interested, I did go ahead and used it in my lotion - I honestly love this FO ( from ND ) . It did not turn my lotion brown or any other colour/ tint .. I did just make a small batch though , and a little goes a long way . But for my 100g it worked out awesome and those who tried it loved it ..thxx Marie your the best .. so addicted to your Chanel / blog 😁

Hi ! I absolutely love your blog and ideas for homemade beauty products!! I have just one question, do you think that if the destiled water is used instead of boiled one, do I still need to add preservative to this mixture? Also, the coconut oil and shea butter can stay fresh for very long time and not having bacteria in it. What Ive recently read about these two ingredients is that they are actually antibacterial. What do you think about that? Thanks a lot ! :)
Hey! YES, if there is water, regardless of where it comes from, a preservative is a MUST! Watch this (th-cam.com/video/YI3lsPJyMgY/w-d-xo.html) for more information.
It usually works, but it can be harder to get the temperatures close to one another. I usually use microwaves when teaching classes and it's all good, just be careful not to burn anything!

So I'm searching for a way to make a lotion that is effective at moisturising my skin but doesn't make me feel like I have that heavy feeling or a coating on my skin. I had cancer a couple years ago and a result of tart is that I am 29 and in menopause, as well as that I now have rheumatoid arthritis as a side effect from getting rid of the cancer. I will need chemo for the rest of my life to keep my RA in check. Most people hear arthritis and think it's my bones that are the issue but rheumatoid arthritis isn't the bones it's all the connective tissue in and around the joints, I even have muscle issues because of rheumatoid nodules popping up like little balls in my long muscles. I know that's a lot of detail but I promise it was relevant. It actually hurts to touch my skin in a lot of places, my skin is overly sensitive and the menopause factor means it is prone to just explode in flashes of heat. It's hell. Rather than me waste a bunch of ingredients can you point me in the right direction of oils most likely to be nourishing, but not feel oily... Or is there a way to make it not feel heavy? I'm keen to try your body meringue.
Hmm. I'd probably start here: www.humblebeeandme.com/lemon-chiffon-body-hand-lotion/, but perhaps include some more humectants (swap out 4g of the water for 4g panthenol), and drop the EOs as your skin is sensitive. I'd also use BTMS-50 instead of any ol' emulsifying wax as BTMS-50 is conditioning, which means it will adsorb to your skin and create a fine molecular coating on it that will smooth it and protect it. This lotion is quite light but leave my skin feeling utterly divine. I hope that helps!

Yes, with a proper preservative and good manufacturing practices you should easily get 6 months and beyond :)

I can smell the lotion through youtube. It's delicious... :D
Oooh, yum! :D
