    It would be great to see an in-depth talk about which esters or silicones to choose and when to use them. Like a comparison of sorts. Also going by how much they tend to cost, so people can choose some of the cheaper options out there.

    Marie, I guessed them all right!❤ I've been following your entire series on basic lotions all the way through till today. All the tips and tricks you've shown us along the way have made a HUGE difference in how I now formulate my own formulas. Thank you for breaking it down in small bites anyone can take advantage of! 😊
    Also, going over the deep dives on emulsifiers was a huge help to me. Knowing how each one feels independently.
    I've made everything from light milky formulas to rich buttery emulsified body butters, and they've all turned out excellent.
    Thanks for making formulating a joy rather than a giant hassel of mind-boggling numbers, lol!😂❤😊

    Marie, I wonder if you can help? I am trying to avoid the powdery after feel that my diy creams give as I feel it dries out my skin and hair.
    Is there an emulsifier that isn’t powdery? I have some polysorbate 80 arriving today and I was thinking about using it as a Co emulsifier.
    I promise I have read your blog to investigate wax emulsifiers and couldn’t find this information. Many people love that powdery feel but I can’t stand it.
    I have sunflower lecithin which I do use. I want to try, using that with polysorbate 80.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe

      I'd try Emulsifying Wax NF; I don't find it to be powdery at all. That powdery sensation can come from other ingredients, though, so I wouldn't exclusively look at your emulsifier.

      Gynaecologists typically recommend gentle, unscented products for cleansing the vulva (I would go with that-AKA NO fragrance in feminine washes), and advise leaving the rest of it to its own devices. Here are some thoughts from Dr. Jen Gunter:
      vajenda.substack.com/p/merchants-of-shame (scroll down to "The vagina should never be cleaned"). Personally, I would not recommend formulating such a thing, and generally agree with Dr. Gunter that such products really aren't necessary.

    good evening Marie, thanks for your work, could i ask you about the soapy effect of the face cream on the skin? i don't know the reason behind this issue. which of the following ingredients could make this effect, this is the formula that i had made
    1- xanthan gum 0.2 gm
    2- stearic acid 0.5 gm
    3- cetyl alcohol 1.5 gm
    4- cetearyl alcohol 2.5 gm
    5- tween 60 1.5 gm
    6- GMS 1.5 gm
    7- olive oil 20 gm
    8-lecithin 1 gm
    9-glycerin 3gm
    10- sod lactate 0.5 gm
    11- sorbitol 1gm
    12- preserv 1gm

      I'm afraid soaping is not a "one ingredient is causing the problem, drop that and everything is solved" situation. It could be the interaction between a couple ingredients, it could be the concentration of a specific ingredient, it really depends.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience that's not universally true. It's more of a "try it and if it doesn't work, that's probably why" thing. You will commonly find cationic and anionic ingredients paired in shampoos (especially conditioning ones)-it really depends on the specific ingredients + the overall formulation.
      Some examples:
      www.lush.ca/en/hair/conditioners/american-cream/9999961781.html (anionic SLS + cationic Cetrimonium Bromide)
      deciem.com/en-gb/hif/hydration-support-cleansing-conditioner-100355.html (anionic Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate and Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate + cationic guar gum)
      www.sephora.com/ca/en/product/no-4-bond-maintenance-shampoo-P435616?skuId=2121549&icid2=products%20grid:p435616:product (anionic Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate [and others] + Polyquaternium-10, PQ11, cationic guar gum)

    Product breakdown question: how can I tell if a commercial product used an anionic emulsifier or not?
    I've been trying to sorta reverse-engineer the Dr. Barbara Sturm cream's ingredients list, and though I can't quite peg exactly which emulsifier they used, Cetearyl Alcohol & Glycerol Stearate seem like they would likely be part of that system (similar to Ritamulse SCG)
    Cationics are straightforward enough, but how do I ID anionics?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You need to look for an anionic emulsifying ingredient, just as you would look for a cationic one. Cetearyl alcohol and glyceryl stearate are non-ionic fatty thickeners, so you can generally skate right past those. That product uses an emulsifier I've never seen before-Potassium Cetyl Phosphate. It is anionic according to several manufacturers on UL Prospector :)
