Just as a transformation tip, because this worked for me, when transforming him into truck mode, snap the knees pegs into the hands before lining up the front or thigh pegs. It holds a lot better that way.
Studio series is all over the place these days in engineering quality. Deluxe or not this guy deserves a flagship conversion, not one that feels like they were deliberately holding back.
It is a nice toy and definitely worth checking out - but I always feel the limits of the price point when handling it. I hope Hasbro tackles this design at a later date again at the Voyager price point... - with a higher budget on paint (to get the metallic look more across) - with an overall better choice of plastic base colors (the red and blue look washed out and far off from the more vibrant colors in the film) - with a more accurate looking axe - with slightly better proportions (to me at least he looks too short or too bulky) - with a higher parts count to improve on the neat (but kinda unfinished feeling) tricks this one already does (like the crotch piece or the integration of the hands in vehicle mode) - with a way to integrate the weaponized vehicle mode without the use of extra parts - with some neat flame effect parts to use in robot and vehicle mode Or to put it shot - pull a SS86 Hot Rod with it. 😋
4:28 Dropping my comment to encourage more washroom-based dialogue recordings. In fact, maybe you should film an entire review on the bathroom counter, or - if you're feeling adventurous - on the tank of the toilet itself.
He's definitely a figure I'll pick up... eventually. Perhaps watching the movie will make me want this version of Prime more, but from most reviews it sounds like he's solid but by no means groundbreaking. If Hasbro actually keeps this guy on shelves perpetually, I'm sure he'll end up in my collection at one point or another
I love the solidity of this guy, much like his fellow A Class buddy SS86 Bumblebee. The robot mode is great, and the gray is a true modern mystery, in my own pics I took he has that yellow tinge, but in my hands its gray, not dull or dingy...just gray. I also like the dumb fact his smokestacks can be pistols. In lieu of a more classic Orion this would be a nice companion to either Gamer or Reactivate as his pre upgrade mode.
Pretty funny how the two A level figures for the year have rather contrasting aesthetics. Wouldn't it have made more sense to have picked a lane and stuck to it?
Question, where did you get your background bits? Been wanting to make my displays more interesting and liked the background setting you got in your videos.
After watching the movie and this review I got this figure and was satisfied the only problems were that the transformation was very hard to do and making him hold the matrix was very hard to do. But overall this figure is a 7.5/10
I weirdly am glad I picked up the ONE Prime Changers figure over this. I can’t say I would’ve been very satisfied with this guy, but I actually really like the other
After the articulation i thought the review was about to end. Then i remembered this toy transforms :P Seen too much Mecha Gaikotsu of late, no helping that these reviews are so infrequent
Got rid of the diaper skirt and the vehicle bumper guns and that alone made me like this figure a lot more than on first impression. However I hope Takara makes a Leader Megatron to go with the Leader Class version of this guy.
3:21 Imagine when/if Hasbro starts including branded 'accessory zip bags' ? Biodegradable of course... Or maybe woven out of hemp? ... Okay, if it looks like an in-universe / lore friend bag Energon threads!??! ) I might be into it.
Ga! Im so torn over getting this fella. I love the look of the robot mode, but everything else seems pretty average. Plus, do I have space to start collecting Transformers One toys? Best leave this Optimus on the shelf...... I'm totally gonna get him.
Weird Al started out recording in a bathroom, and now he's Wreck-Gar *AND* Cosmos! (And the 40 years of success in the music industry, but who cares about that?)
Honestly, I wish I had watched this review before I bought mine. He's just so... unsatisfying, for a Prime. Don't like the alt mode, the transformation isn't great, I hate the squishy truck-gun thing that does nothing in robot mode, and unlike Concept Art Megatron, I don't feel like the robot mode is good enough to justify all the other flaws. I'm hesitant to let this guy go until I see the accompanying Megatron, but honestly, I really think I should have passed on this one.
The Pre-Yellowed jokes for this figure remind me of when Blitzwing was revealed for Bumblebee and everyone called him Starscream.
I mean to be fair, "blitzwing" couldn't have looked more like Starscream if he tried.
Got this guy as a gift and I agree on the mixed bag aspect. Alt mode is fine, transformation is kinda irritating, but I ADORE the robot mode.
Just as a transformation tip, because this worked for me, when transforming him into truck mode, snap the knees pegs into the hands before lining up the front or thigh pegs. It holds a lot better that way.
I look forward to the Mad Max'd version of this figure. Hopefully with removable nipple cannons just like Chris Hemsworth's in Furiosa.

Takara Leader Class enters the chat...
funny enough, the mainline "deluxe" actually does a lot of fun and interesting stuff with his conversion!

The warm grey reminds me of Powermaster Optimus Prime and thus I like it
HE LOOKS PRE YELLO.....wait
Also, we just gonna ignore that his moving crotch looks like the talking gimmick from Movie Leader Ironhide or no?

My pec peg is also pretty wiggly, but that's something most men my age start to face.

Don't put yourself down like that vangelus, your desktop is pretty A Tier, to me.
Vangelus should record exclusively in washrooms from now on.
thanks to some scum gamer my completely wholesome washroom recording pivot has had to remain flushed for years now

We need more reviews with crotchplate puppetry.
Seriously love your reviews man!
Question, where did you get your background bits? Been wanting to make my displays more interesting and liked the background setting you got in your videos.
they're a bunch of Kotobukiya Mechanical Chain Base pieces
@@Vangelus thanks! Love the content!
Got him a week or so ago, and I really like him!

It looks like a fun toy, quibbles aside. I'm excited to see what other "One" stuff looks like next year.

*EVO FUSION!!! DUAL PRIME BUSTERRRRRRRRR!!!*
My goodness. 2 reviews in a week? We are spoiled!
Maybe we'll get a Matrix of Leadership that Prime can open as well.
Does his grey plastic look better in person?
I have to wonder if the Commander version will be better

I just realized it looks like he's wearing a t-shirt.
Doesn't like the animate diaper... Continues to animate said diaper.

piss gray diaper certainly was a choice

I feel like either some engineering ideas on this get mistranslated when transitioning this from CGI model from paper to plastic toy.

Good Video. Bad toy.
This figure is trash should have made him a voyager the fact that it’s a debate wether or not the mainline is better is a shame
