Swahili’s on my language learning bucket list and I didn’t know Duolingo added it until now! My parents have spent a few years in Kenya and it would be a wonderful bonding moment for us if I learned some Swahili. :)

Duolingo will say "habari nzuri" as "good news" but then it lists "habari" as "hello". Then it says another word for hello us "mambo". So I presume I need to learn more about Tanzanian and Kenyan cultures to ascertain the subleties in this language.
Duolingo does say "yangu" vs "wangu" and "wao ni wakenya" vs "yao ki wakenya". So that is my biggest issue too.

I tried learning Swahili last year and then dropped it. It’s a beautiful language! I had a hard time finding resources for learning Swahili from what I seen. I might give Swahili a try on Duo Lingo

Honestly it's so hard to learn african languages by yourself because of the lack of resources or somethings the courses not being as developed as western languages.
I think duoling does a good job of covering the basics but it could be better
I'd say give it a try because if anything it's actually fun!

There is actually a tips button for swahili! Unfortunately it's only on the web version of duolingo so you'll have to login on a browser to access it. It explains when to use different versions of my (and all the other possesive pronouns like yours, ours, hers) and noun classes and really helps you understand stuff more. Id really reccomend you use it if you wanna speak fluently :)

I'm learning swahili on duolingo too. I just started though. I also want to strengthen my Spanish language skills to "fluency" proficiency and I resumed working on my French. I sometimes wonder if I'll ever reach my desired level of fluency in any, but this video and your excitement about learning languages remotivated me.

Yay!!! I'll ve posting more and trying out other swahili courses online!
Honestly, it's hard to stay motivated but I'm happy if this video even helps 1 person !!

I feel like knowing a Bantu language already is a huge help when learning Swahili lol (I speak Bubi - a very old Bantu language and the indigenous language of my tribe that is spoken in Equatorial Guinea, mostly Bioko Island.)

I’m just getting into unit 2, and thankfully my partner and all his friends are from Kenya so I have a tips resource. I agree about not understanding the basic rules. I was so confused about changu, wangu, langu etc too!

I’m also learning Swahili now but trust me this really sucks me up😫…. Like u just don’t knw when and where to place those words(langu, changu, zangu, wangu….I even feel like they are more) I think I need an advancement on this and I’ll be relieved once I accomplish it.👏

Second this. I used it to get a good understanding of the structure before starting with vocabulary and stuff. Did you have any other resources you suggest might suggest, Jasmine? I'm taking classes on iTalki and using Glossika, but I could use some more ideas.

I use the duolingo swahili and I really enjoy it truly. However, I do not recommend using it on your phone is you are serious to learn it, because it is more gamified. When it is on the computer, you can change to type instead of fill in the blanks and it helps alot more with understanding the basics and building blocks.

I prefer to learn new language with handbook for selfteaching. Becose I prefer systematic information. Allso I'm using Quizlet everyday to remember new words. Swahili, as for me, is very easy language. But Swahili require regular practice with handbook as any other language. Therefore I hily recomend to finde handbook for learning language.

Swahili is a complex angu is the root for mine so the prefix you use depends on the noun class so I will advise you to buy a book of Swahili then Read it and understand the grammar of the language Inbox me for free PDFs

It doesn't worth it, this course is just awful, worst Duolingo course ever.
I had to buy an Assimil book, because Duolingo teaches nonsense, why I am supposed to learn canal, borders, spears, in the first lessons?
Also, It teaches in reverse order, teaches negations before affirmations, and plural before singular.
    Just awful.
