Love the review! I really think Toyota should make a TRD version of the corolla hatch with around 220hp as a successor to the older sporty corolla hatchbacks
Kevin Praditra if they did that, it would cost mid $20k’s to $30k’s. Who would really buy a Corolla for that much? Probably only Toyota fans, but not the usual car enthusiast
I can't wait to test drive one! This is probably one of the better looking modern cars I've seen lately and fortunately it has enough muscles to go with its good looks.
25:30 is that alex on auto in the background messing with his cam?? Is that also explained in his 2019 corolla review of the seat was unable to view becuz of his sd card problem? LOL
Hmm...quite impressed by their automatic system in this vehicle. Sounds pretty nice too when accelerating. Toyota definitely aren't known for making fast cars, but at least this one has adequate power. I dig it!
As a long term corolla owner I love the design but hate the CVT. Will probably go with a Camry next. I really think they should make the 2 liter the base engine, drop the CVT and put the 8 speed auto from the Camry in it and keep the manual. Also for the S line up the hp even more to somewhere around 200 hp.
Toyota needs to make a GR version of this, for performance clout, but it HAS to kick ass. I'm interested in them making a new version of the FX16 corolla hatch that was high revving. Needs tablet display delete, VVTI-L (I know it has vvti, needs the lift for that high revving torque!), LSD, ITB's, intake and high flow exhaust and this thing in theory would rip
RedPanda non car people who like fancy chrome visuals lol. I will guarantee that a sales man will tell a non car person “check out these nice dual chrome tips!”
I love the look of the car but power still seems a bit low compared to most other sporty hatchbacks. With a price point of low 20s for the SE model and mid to high 20s for the XSE model, I cannot help but ask, why should I pick this over a GTI?
I just bought a 2013 S because i love the look of that generation and how aggressive it looks. And of course right after i buy it, this was announced and I’m salty
With direct and port injection this will keep maintenence costs down by reducing the dreaded carbon build up issues that DI only engines seem to be plagued with.
I don't know why I being a fanboy of huge performance engines like this corolla so much, my family dailies like 3 corollas and they are stupid reliable and out of all bodies hatchbacks are just my favorites, I might just get me a manual of this, very nice little daily
thanks Matt for driving the Manual and good review as always! What do you think about Ford eliminating their car line MATT since you are a Ford man now
I'm actually excited for this....coming from a 4cyl turbo DI, I am willing to trade power for reliability and still retain some sportiness...It's between the Mazda and this....
Great looking car inside and out. Love all the standard tech. Those seats look comfy. I just hope they don't jack up the price to hot hatch territory, 168hp is simply not enough to justify it.
Agree. Buying a car made in Japan is the deciding factor, I had ls400. Made in Japan . Best for its time. I have 1991 Toyota hilux and it's still runs perfect with 300 000 km. Made in Japan . Quality control is best. By far
Nah. Manual's are actually selling pretty well on sporty hot hatches. For many it makes up nearly 50% of sales. As long as it sells they will still make it.
they made 168 hp feel quick in a 2.0 naturally aspirated motor? Gotta love short ratio manual transmissions! Probly light to and if its under 3000lbs that 168hp is plenty .Amazing review as always! They should make a turbo version of this an XRS TRD version or some crazy shit it would have like 250hp and fly and compete with almost anything under 50k
Which is s better handler the Ford fiesta St or this my base fiesta se sedan dual clutch 6spd automatic it hauls ass it lighter than this car and handles like a go kart
Now one thing I never understood about CVT's (always avoided them, prefered manual or dual clutches): Is there still a powerband they can access since there are no gears? I'm always fuzzy on the concept
So iPhones and Apple Watches are expected to last for three years. I am curious what will happen when Apple Infotainment will stop supporting updates? Just like iPhone 4s won’t upgrade to iOS 10. If you plan to keep this vehicle for a long time you’ll be stuck with that old hardware? Also not to forget that apps also require regular updates. It’s interesting to see what will happen to this system 5 years from now.
The rear bumper looks a little weird, but it really helps with the over all flow of the vehicle. I actually really think it looks cool, would be nice to see some power bump. On the other hand, this is one of those motors your children, and grand children drive as first cars.
The manual was measured at 7.5 seconds to 60 by motortrend which for comparison is the same as my 200hp Acura TSX manual and on par with the Mazda 3. Definitely adequate for this type of car.
Matt pleaseee review the civic hatch sport touring when you have the chance! I can't decide between the mazda3 gt and the civic hatch. Both are soooo similar
Can't believe I'm going to say this, but this hatch looks better than the Civic, exterior and interior. The new design language of Toyota works with this car.
Corolla's have come such a long way. I have a 08 corolla S and god damn that thing rattles like a rock in a tin can. And every part of the car you touch is cheaper quality plastic than an xbox controller! And don't even get me started on the 120 horsepower...
Another awesome review. Thus seemsije a great improvement to the previous Corolla, very nice, especially the CVT, and the sporty styling and how the wheels look spinning. And finally, decent power! The previous one always so we'll, but was an epic fail performance wise, considering the had an S model. I feel the HSE is a perfect stock Sport model, but could be enhanced with factory TRD upgrades, a high performance vehicle with those parts installed, or aftermarket. Being an Android user, it seemed another fail to not have Android Auto, and I expressed that in earlier review videos that along with the lack of previous power, and then, not giving theengine pwer ratings would like a lot of sales, and received lots of comments from Toyota fanboys saying it will still sell well. They didn't get it, because even though the previous model sold well despite much lower power compared to other brands, the lost potential sales can still total to teens of thousands. Even without Android Auto, I would seriously consider a CVT HSE, along with my favorites, the Honda Civic Sport Hatchback, or Si Sedan, and the Subaru Impreza Sport Hatchback CVT. The optional JBL 800 Watt stereo system is a lot more power than most other factory sound systems, especially for a compact car. Very well done, Toyota. I now have more Insight... Oh, wait... That's a Honda. Lol
Anyone notice Alex on Autos in the backround at 8:35? That's pretty funny!
Love the review! I really think Toyota should make a TRD version of the corolla hatch with around 220hp as a successor to the older sporty corolla hatchbacks
Kevin Praditra more like 250 ish horses so compete with the upcoming mark 8 gti
Like the Ae86? This one would already be close if it wasn’t fwd...
はる no, more like the Corolla RunX or T-Sport from the early 2000’s
Kevin Praditra if they did that, it would cost mid $20k’s to $30k’s. Who would really buy a Corolla for that much? Probably only Toyota fans, but not the usual car enthusiast
That'd be very cool
11:39 for manual
20:58 for CVT
Good looks bruh
you the man
Awesome man! We are not worthy.
90's Boiler Room I
Bless you
Wow that manual corrolla hatch seems pretty great. Good for new or mild car enthusiasts which I really hope we continue to see
Toyota definitely stepped their style game up this year. Nice.
Mike Greco Yeah it's a handsome thing, much like yourself...
SCM ;)
this proves that small, low-budget cars can be desirable and not have to be bland shitboxes
Yeah it's great we're living in times where there's fun new cars available to buy at any price point.
when Bitcoin goes up, I will buy my first car haha
What an amazing review. I’ve watched a bunch of them for this car, and this one was by far the best. Awesome job man.
One of the best reviews of the car out there!
8:35 dat homie Alex on Autos with his denim and tinted glasses - such a stud.
I can't wait to test drive one! This is probably one of the better looking modern cars I've seen lately and fortunately it has enough muscles to go with its good looks.
The funny thing is, this new Corollas interior looks better quality and better fit and finish than any car in Ford and Dodges lineup haha
Jason S eh, Ford interiors are really nice anymore, only way I could see this being better would be styling and that's subjective
americans dont worry too much about interiors as long as its good enough for them
Alex Barn I don’t know what makes you think Ford interiors are nice. They’re better, but still very cheap and low quality looking.
Jason S yeah cause ford and dodge are luxury brands...
Its_All_Kim neither is a corolla
25:30 is that alex on auto in the background messing with his cam?? Is that also explained in his 2019 corolla review of the seat was unable to view becuz of his sd card problem? LOL
The best review for Toyota C-Hatch so far!!
This Rolla is absolutely gorgeous, can't wait to replace my Matrix XR with this thing. Great stuff from Toyota as usual.
That interior looks great wow so simple yet so elegant.
revans425 I think Apple had some input, esp the white interior lol
This looks like a cool little economy car. If we can get a GRMN version to compete with the GTI, I would eat that idea up.
What's GRMN?
Frenzy724 it stands for Gazoo Racing Masters of Nurburgring. It’s basically Toyota’s top tier in their performance sub-brand GR.
Dawson Johannes its coming.....😉
Hmm...quite impressed by their automatic system in this vehicle. Sounds pretty nice too when accelerating. Toyota definitely aren't known for making fast cars, but at least this one has adequate power. I dig it!
So much potential omg.
Also I missed not hearing your intro song :(
As a long term corolla owner I love the design but hate the CVT. Will probably go with a Camry next. I really think they should make the 2 liter the base engine, drop the CVT and put the 8 speed auto from the Camry in it and keep the manual. Needs tablet display delete, VVTI-L (I know it has vvti, needs the lift for that high revving torque!), LSD, ITB's, intake and high flow exhaust and this thing in theory would rip
Rathanak Vlogs Would never happen these days, wouldn't pass emmisions. If anything you'd see something like a 1.6 turbo.
+William Stewart I just wish it was possible
Wonder if the screen is easy to dim. It looks like the new RAV4 is getting the same system.
Why did they get rid of the cool spoiler? They ruined the rear end.
This needs the new 4cyl in the Camry that outputs 195 HP.
Acuravigor47 if that happens no one will buy gt86 anymore
Gt 86 is rear wheel drive
Acuravigor47 203*
That color of blue looks like the blue used on the $79.95 Earl Shrives paint shops back in the 70's
8:36 damn the interior seats turn black on start up? Nice!
Glad to see the Manual
Fake exhausts are the absolute worst. What sort of person would actually like the idea of them?!
RedPanda non car people who like fancy chrome visuals lol. I will guarantee that a sales man will tell a non car person “check out these nice dual chrome tips!”
Order one without them. It's your money.
exhaust are real, just the tips are fake, not a deal breaker since a lot of cars havem’ now
David S Pretty sure those fake exhaust tips come standard with the car.
tinhinnh Obviously the exhaust is real, I said “exhaust” as a shorthand for the exhaust tips.
Dolan Dank Front yes. Rear looks girly.
What do you think about Ford eliminating their car line MATT since you are a Ford man now
I kept wanting to grab that center screen and rip it off the dashboard! Ridiculously tall!
Bro you should totally get this car great fun and good for the family and you have to definitely go for the manual
Matt, you look so comfortable driving that car, makes me want to go for a drive.
Still got my corolla s 2012 and thinking about my car for this new ones
CAT MARIO get the 6 speed
Mr. Queasy true I don't like cvt, my 2012 has a regular automatic not a cvt
tempted to trade in my 2015 le for this in 6speed
I can't wait for the GR Corolla hatchback. I really hope they impress! Watching this in August 2020.
Sounds promising! Pretty good review. Thanks!
PROS: seats, interior, info system, manual, exterior design; CONS: rear room, cargo space
I'm actually excited for this....coming from a 4cyl turbo DI, I am willing to trade power for reliability and still retain some sportiness...It's between the Mazda and this....
dude..... that CVT in manual mode is actually impressive
i have a 2015 corolla sedan and that thing is lethargic
I love this car. Thanks for the great review Matt
They need to bring back the XRS. 👌
HerXiongHerby you mean frs? It's the Toyota 86
jgijoe Yes XRS the one with lift.
I still haven't figured out why but I'd much rather have mechanical gauges over a digital display any day
Always enjoy your informative reviews!
Very good video... keep up the good work man .
I would definitely buy a GR version of this that competes with the GTI and like.
This is a really cool looking car. Considering buying one now they updated it.
I can't wait to see the aftermarket for these and what people plan to do with it.
Great looking car inside and out. Love all the standard tech. Those seats look comfy. I just hope they don't jack up the price to hot hatch territory, 168hp is simply not enough to justify it.
Toyota still doesnt want Android users to drive their vehicles.
don't want to get blamed for any explosions
Ron Ulysses Swanson lol
@@xdunejunkiex that joke is old and never was true in the first place
TheGrayWolf81 I call it a classic, and yes it is true that’s why it’s a joke. Derp
Toyota is going to add android auto
Thats a nice looking car when its rolling and that pause when you said you're in the cvt lol
Agree. Buying a car made in Japan is the deciding factor, I had ls400. Made in Japan . Best for its time. I have 1991 Toyota hilux and it's still runs perfect with 300 000 km. Made in Japan . Quality control is best. By far
The best looking catfish since the 98-02 Camaro
So glad there's a manual option...though, probably not for much longer
Cars hideous who cares
Nah. Manual's are actually selling pretty well on sporty hot hatches. For many it makes up nearly 50% of sales. As long as it sells they will still make it.
Could prop drive it the rest of your life just changing oil sometimes.
to compare to corolla xrs 2005-06 VVTL-I or matrix 2003 xrs
Gage cluster looks like it's out of a Cadillac. Cool
they made 168 hp feel quick in a 2.0 naturally aspirated motor? Gotta love short ratio manual transmissions! Probly light to and if its under 3000lbs that 168hp is plenty .Amazing review as always! They should make a turbo version of this an XRS TRD version or some crazy shit it would have like 250hp and fly and compete with almost anything under 50k
letsrun it! a bit over 3000 pounds my good dude bro.
marc yea its sorta large maybe around 3300.Seems like a fun package non the less.
Make this compete with Sentra SR Turbo. Maybe a Corolla R Turboed or Rally tuned.
3,060 lbs to be exact. That's the weight of this corolla
Which is s better handler the Ford fiesta St or this my base fiesta se sedan dual clutch 6spd automatic it hauls ass it lighter than this car and handles like a go kart
8:36 for + Alex on autos?
Now one thing I never understood about CVT's (always avoided them, prefered manual or dual clutches): Is there still a powerband they can access since there are no gears? I'm always fuzzy on the concept
What should I buy? Corolla ZR 2018 with panoramic sunroof -OR- the new standard Corolla 2019?
So iPhones and Apple Watches are expected to last for three years. I am curious what will happen when Apple Infotainment will stop supporting updates? Just like iPhone 4s won’t upgrade to iOS 10. Nice review! Definitely would consider buying. Could you do a review of the F56 Mini Cooper S? Would love that
Thanks! I'd like to, just haven't had an opportunity to review one yet. Hopefully someone offers one eventually.
The rear bumper looks a little weird, but it really helps with the over all flow of the vehicle. I actually really think it looks cool, would be nice to see some power bump. On the other hand, this is one of those motors your children, and grand children drive as first cars.
I think this looks really good. Hope to see a performance oriented version of this.
8:37 i just wanna know how it drives.
I really like the look of this just imagine a sport version with a 2.0 turbo
All it needs is factory roof rack mounts, and an AWD Turbo TRD version would be sick!
Excuse me, how many "Gear" those it have when you used the paddle shifter?
Did not know Corollas were ever fun. At least for as long as I can remember. I'm 51 yrs old.
Is there a audio upgrade for the manual corrola?
The manual was measured at 7.5 seconds to 60 by motortrend which for comparison is the same as my 200hp Acura TSX manual and on par with the Mazda 3. Definitely adequate for this type of car.
Manual if you live in a remote area with a lots of country lanes and open roads. Cvt best for city driving
8:35 AlexOnAutos in the background! :D
Did you say bong holder?
Matt why do you feel a cars got to have major horse power to be good or fun it has more then enough its very quick for what it is.
168hp wow. and 40% thermal efficiency. significant
Is the engagement/bite/catch point clear and well defined? I've driven the FRS/GT86 manual before and the clutch felt way too vague.
It would make a nice daily, but I'd mod the tips to be real when I bought it.
I have a Prius C and it’s definitely copy and paste with this Corolla. On that note, I most definitely want one
Nice to see a sporty Toyota Corolla!
It actually has a good sounding induction noise.
Definitely getting the Corolla XSE with the manual
Did u?
Great looking car and glad it has a manual option but the tablet display sticking out of the dash is awful.
Looks like the perfect car for newbies. I'm gonna teach my gf how to drive manual with this car if I get it.
I'm just glad to see that Toyota is offering a manual.
If I write positive comment here would it make influence on, not yet announced, car price? Good job toyota.
Matt pleaseee review the civic hatch sport touring when you have the chance! I can't decide between the mazda3 gt and the civic hatch. Both are soooo similar
I wish we got the current gen mazda 2 stateside, maybe we can since scion is gone. No more scion ia
They definitely should make a more sport orientated of this. Maybe RWD if they can. Definity a good looking car
What's up with those ridiculous leather/cloth seats? The seats would look so much more upscale if they were leather only
Can't believe I'm going to say this, but this hatch looks better than the Civic, exterior and interior. The new design language of Toyota works with this car.
Might have to test drive one, one day. Glad to know MT is still an option for me and many others in the near future. AT is a fall back option for now.
Corolla's have come such a long way. I have a 08 corolla S and god damn that thing rattles like a rock in a tin can. And every part of the car you touch is cheaper quality plastic than an xbox controller! And don't even get me started on the 120 horsepower...
Thot Slayer Get something better. Maybe a Lexus IS 350.
Blind spot monitoring is listed as a feature on their web site for even the manual XSE.
Take a shot of sake everytime Matt says "in this segment"
Another awesome review. Thus seemsije a great improvement to the previous Corolla, very nice, especially the CVT, and the sporty styling and how the wheels look spinning. And finally, decent power! They need to make a propulsion RWD version
Toyota needs to put in the car DVD player and chargers for the back passenger seats.
