    Fantastic video - super interesting to see the results! Wish there was a cost effective reusable mat of some kind that could be used for years - imagine the money you would save. BTW, your packaging looks great, not flashy & puts the emphasis on the veggies, smart designing. You're almost at 25K subs! If you don't mind a couple of piggy back notes on this.
    1) Chef's prefer a specific length in their cut, often under 2" so getting a closer cut to the mat isn't really a great idea. If your stems are too long, they'll opt for other providers.
    2) The mats require some kind of fertilizer/nutrient for anything over a 7 day grow.
    3) Soak mats ahead of time, and use a spray bottle to mist them after you seed, otherwise stuff gets washed around.
    Just some added notes from our own experiences with them. We use both, mat for short grow, and compost mix for longer stuff.
    4) not all micros do well on mats.
    Ideological notes, use eco friendly clamshells that are made from plant based resin for composting. Bags are tough, because there aren't many clear plastic options for bags that are compostable.

    • @Growwiththelaplantes
      @Growwiththelaplantes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for your input!
      Our Chefs are extremely happy with our micros. If I have anything that is beyond grown, we consume ourselves in juicing.
      We do fertilize as well as soak the mats before planting and mist .
      So far, sunflowers are the only crop that hasn't done well for us on mats.

    Time is money, it would save a lot of time if you cut your mats the same size as your clam shells and just set the mat of greens in a clam shell without spending time cutting and weighing them. The sprouts would last a lot longer for your customers in their fridge since they are still alive. Also if the greens are ready before market days you can hold them in the cooler and keep them longer. There would be less greens per clam shell so maybe use a bigger clam shell if you find it works better. I think City-hydro does it that way in Baltimore. Thanks for posting...

    • @d.t.4523
      @d.t.4523 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You reuse the mats, and one 4 inch square is not enough greens to fill the shell. It took about one forth of the mat to fill one shell to 75g.

    Hi again,
    cutting micro with pair of scissors or knives is slow for production. Unless you have a specific reason for doing so, it is far faster, better and more consistent to use a thing called a greens harvester with quick stand attachment from Farmers Friend LLC. total cost is around US$750 but for what you are doing and the volume I see, I think you might be at a scale where the harvester would make more sense. link is farmersfriendllc.com. we bundle our pea shoots and do not package them loose so we don't use the greens harvester. However, we do use it on a first cut of baby lettuce.
    sincerely,
    Mud Dog Farm
    PS. sorry but we don't have youtube channel nor a web site. don't have yung'uns to do these sort of things.
