    Do any of you ever find yourself thinking if you were that baby how scared you would be? My heart goes out to them just like I know it does for all of you. Swaddling them up in a blanket must give them so much comfort and I bet you guys have experienced a lot of sleepless nights. We all have much respect for all that you do! Thank you for sharing your lives with us and teaching us about these precious little babies.

      Amy remember how hard it must be on the care givers too. I am sure they become very attached, haha literally and emotionally, to the babies themselves. But then they have push them off to the next level to find their forever mom.

    This is a wonderful video showing your process in finding the orphaned babies a foster mom. It's a process in which takes a lot of loving care, and a lot of time, and patience, and experience, and those orphaned babies were at least, lucky enough to be rescued by everyone at the VMF! THANK YOU, FOR ALL THAT YOU DO AT THE VERVET MONKEY FOUNDATION! 💗

      @@freedomunltd Good to hear from you, Jeanne; and yes: those abominable animal cruelty sites. I wrote in suggesting that there should be warnings on those videos--as there are in movies--and boy! did I get slammed! Lots of comments containing foul language. Amazing what people who don't have the slightest idea of who you are would behave in that way. ANYWAY, the Vervet Monkey Foundation has saved my sanity during almost one year of stringent quarantine. My best to you.

      Monkeys are born with an innate ability to cling to their mothers or other objects in their environment. If you ever see a monkey giving birth it’s truly astonishing. As soon as the arms and hands clear the birth canal they latch on to their mother’s body and they literally pull themselves out of the birth canal and up toward their mother’s teats. Where their second instinct kicks in and they begin to root around until they latch on and begin to suckle.
      Both instincts are critical to the babies survival. They are typically born high up in the tree canopy during the evening hours for safety from predators and surrounded by their troupe. Mom needs all four extremities to navigate the treetops, so it’s usually the baby’s job to cling tightly to mom’s belly. Sleep would be perilous if both mom and baby couldn’t hold on even while soundly sleeping. Since it takes approximately 10 days for their eyes to begin focusing its also critical for those suckling instincts to help the baby latch on and encourage the mother’s to begin lactating. It’s truly amazing to see how nature provides unique solutions for each species’ needs.

I think schools around the world should be showing videos like this of all species and shown the consequences of peoples actions and how traumatised the babies left behind are. I think we are only going to be able to sort out the killing and selling of gorgeous creatures with education and compassion. As Dave has said before, every creature on this planet has a right to be here. Love to all the monkeys and their hoomans. Please all stay safe x

Once they are of no use to the family they are discarded like useless trash with ZERO survival skills. We all know how that ends for the poor monkeys.

    Just curious. Why do some of the baby monkeys look more blue than others? I noticed that the first new orphan in this episode looks really blue. Is that a medical condition, or do some monkeys just have naturally blue skin. I've noticed it also throughout the other seasons as well. Just wondering.

    • @JP-gj2op
      @JP-gj2op 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The babies learning to use the feeding cage is vital to them being adopted by a foster monkey mom. They need milk for the first year of life, and since the moms aren’t producing milk, they have to learn to go to the feeding cage for their milk. It’s not possible for the humans to separate them from their new mother every 4 hours to hand feed them.
