wow, this looks great! I've just installed it and it's amazing! shame that the menus blink, but it's ok, there's a toggle to switch on and off! thanks a lot!
Where are those games today??? ... Disney? Remember a game with this game mechanics and actual graphics... I played x- wing alliance again (great presentation btw) a few years ago. I used some high res mods from the moddb . It was really great and I,d like to see such kind of games again.
where do you actually place the reshade files? i unzipped the directx files into the main directory and it seemed to work (as it asked to overwrite existing files) but i unzipped the reshade files into the main xwa directory and nothing happened. it made absolutely no difference to the game
Anybody know what´s going on? I installed the reshade, but everytime I start the game, it crashes. Got newest version of ddraw dll and all the drivers installed. Also I think that I installed everything correctly. I am running Windows 10 64bit with Intel Core i5-7200U and Nvidia GeForce 940MX. I got the GOG version of the game enchanced with the XWAUpgrade and resolution mapped to 1920x1080. I tried to run it as admin, also tried to change the game back to 16bit mode (Which I was forced to use, cause big ships are buggy on 32bit), also tried to install older version of the reshade, but nothing worked
Your setup looks really nice. One question, how do you do to make the cockpit smaller than the default one? It looks like that my field of view looks smaller than yours. Also, the camera looks like that is not fixed to the xwing reference frame and has some movement.
Yes, I am using a the alternate x-wing cockpit. When you download the individual x-wing and cockpit model from the xwaupgrade project, if you run the installer you'll get an option to use the alternate. Choose it then. I find the alternate superior as you have a much better field of view, with less of the instrument panel in your way. I'm not using Track IR, but I am liberally making use of the "padlock" function, which is built into XWA to keep your head locked onto targets. I'd rather native Track IR support, but there was no such thing as the device when the game was published.
Thank you for the quick answer! I have just changed the cockpit and it looks great. One other question, I think that Direct X11 support is already included in the XWACP v1.5. Which is the difference with the one that is in your comment?
Not sure what the difference is. I bet they are using the same support. However, the big difference is the reshade post processing effects, which are probably separate, as I linked to above.
Thank for the answer! I have tried to install your reshape profile. It looks very good. However, Reshade cannot compile your configuration. I guess that I am copying the files in the wrong place or configuring wrongly Reshade. Please, could you tell me where should I place the files? Also, in other profiles that I have tested, there is also .ini file that is loaded by Reshade. Unfortunately, I cannot find that sort of file in your zip. Thanks!
biffrapper, I have already found the problem. In the zip files is missing a folder called common. I have downloaded from the standar distrbution of reshade 0.19.2. Thanks
Those white boxes around the enemy starships... Is this skirmish mode? If so, you should really try out the mission editor. that way you have more freedome and dont have to see all these boxes for a better experience.
I'm just starting out with AlliED, and...well let's just say i havent hit this steep a learning curve since i reverse-engineered paraphonic synthesis by ear. I'm digging the challenge, but immediate it decidedly isn't. :-p
Yep, widescreen. I edited the XWA .exe to modify my resolution per these instructions: www.wsgf.org/dr/star-wars-x-wing-alliance . As for the white boxes... I dunno? I think it is an options setting or a key I pressed some while back. To be honest I might prefer them gone but dunno how to get rid of them off the top of my head.
I dunno about openVR. That would be rad. But I think openVR might require code changes? Because XWA doesn't have modded Track IR support either, only through ghetto mouse emulation.
IIRC, the Scroll Lock key enables mouse look. The pre-mission hangar bay has mouse look enabled by default. It won't work for the sequences in the game where you take over the gun positions in either the Sabra (YT-1300), Otana (YT-2000), or the Millenium Falcon (Endor missions) as mouse look is disabled in the turret.
Are you sure you installed the reshade .dll correctly? Sometimes the installer doesn't insert the dxgi .dll into the directory properly. See links in video after you expand the description.
biffrapper Well I have the steam version. I unzipped it and just put it in the main directory after common. If there is a certain app I have to click I didn't see it. I just copied them in and it had a bunch of red text when I played the game. I didn't see an installer...
According to the readme in the ddraw archive you need to meet the following criteria: - Visual C++ 2013 Runtime (x86) - a CPU with SSE2 support Do you have those visual c++ libraries and a SSE2 CPU? Also, you once you unzip the XWA Reshade Alpha zip, you need to move all the files out of the XWA Reshade Alpha 1.2 subfolder it makes in your XWA main folder and then place them into your main dir so you have: dxgi.dll and reshade.fx in your main dir, and a subfolder in your main dir called "Reshade" filled with everything else.
This Reshade mod is not beautiful, I've tried it. Way too much lensflare, extreme contrasts in the briefing rooms, but what is much worse: The stars in the background get very bright when you are not moving and get smaller/ less brighter when moving. You can also see it in the video. It's a very ugly and irritating effect. Better go with the normal XWA Upgrade mod without this Reshade thing.
If just the extreme flares could be reduced a bit and the ugly effect with the background stars (which maybe also results from the too extreme flare), then this Reshade mod would be awesome. Maybe there's a way to do this.
Looks amazing. I'll have to try this mod out.
Holy crap that's cool. Time to get out my HOTAS and rudder pedals so I can set this up on a desktop again
Is there a way to switch off the J.J. Abrams' graphics mode?
Not in this video. Begone, heretic! :P
i installed this and OMG IT WORKS!
a bit of tweaking to taste (ie what my $200 laptop will put up with) and suddenly xwa has P O L I S H
wow, this looks great! I've just installed it and it's amazing! shame that the menus blink, but it's ok, there's a toggle to switch on and off! thanks a lot!
Glad you'll enjoy!

The lasers and explosions look quite nice. The rest is rather distracting, unfortunately.
Where did you find this mod ?? Looks amazing is it off the XWA Upgrade site?
Hello, I wanted to know what are you shader setting to have this result, thank you
Everything you need is in the video description. Click "show more." :)

So what is the better upgrade? XWAUCPv1.5 or DUSCPv2.5
Try both! :) I think DUSCP combines XWAUCP with additional stuff.
Bloom: the mod
Looks like you are running widescreen. If yes, how? Also, what did you mod to place white target boxes on all ships? Looks great!
Yep, widescreen. I edited the XWA .exe to modify my resolution per these instructions: www.wsgf.org/dr/star-wars-x-wing-alliance . As for the white boxes... I dunno? Gulskjegg xwau lets you do it
Bring on the ray-tracing
DX11!! There is still hope for openVR support?
I dunno about openVR. That would be rad. But I think openVR might require code changes? Because XWA doesn't have modded Track IR support either, only through ghetto mouse emulation.
if it has MouseLook, you may be able to use VorpX to emulate mouse > HMD tracking.

X-Wing Alliance - JJ Abrams Edition
Hey, JJ likes X-Wing too. ;)
the stars disappear when you move, though
Yeah. I don't know how to fix that. :(
biffrapper You are a genius i am shore you will faind a way:)
This is 6, radio check...
Fk dude that looks insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What were your FPS with this. I'm still fighting with the good old 24 fps cap and yours is running insanely smooth.
No idea. 60 or more I think.
Nice. I'd kill just to get it to run at 30...lol
I have DX11 and it didn't work for me.

I am having the same problem and my card is a gtx 980 with a i7 4790k, so I have the right hardware. Let me know if you find a solution.
Perhaps try using older Nvidia drivers?
real hard game this 1
Lol never mind found them here
=)
I guess it wont work with DX12
no idea about DX 12
You've attacked a friendly craft :(
lol
too much lense flare, get rid of it and it will be much better

Whatever floats your boat, man. I spoke to JJ Abrams, though, and he said he absolutely adores what I've done. ;)

Yeah the reduction in stars when in motion is annoying. I'd love to figure out a way to fix that.
@@biffrapper it's all in the reshade folder
@@biffrapper you get control over basically everything. there are also options that xwa doesnt support, but it's basically trial and error
