This looks great! Really impressive. As one of the artists on the original XWA, it's sometimes frustrating trying to convince people that those original graphics were the best we could do at that time (for a multitude of reasons). It's fun to see that people were still so inspired by what Larry and his team did 25 years (!) ago.

Larry and his team did 'something something 25 years' ago. And what was done echoes still today. Unbelievable this stuff is still #1 once real comparisons start. I never quite got over TIE or X-wing for that matter and i can't wait to dive back into this. Local Hardcore Pelit magazine still holds TIE Fighter in #1 position and this total conversion got high marks as well. Tells something about how good the foundation is.
Loved the original Tie Fighter and the special edition with accelerated graphics. X-Wing Alliance was an absolutely brilliant game, gameplay and story wise. I love the new modded version of XWA and the fact that someone ported Tie Fighter to the newer engine it's just insane. I just hope that someday X-Wing gets the same treatment as that's the only one I haven't finished yet. Congrats Richard on the original game and to Angel on the massive effort on modding and porting the games, as a software developer myself I know this is in no way a simple task. Curious fact, I'm at this point in Battle 13 Mission 1 of TFTC, I'll probaly finish it this week. Still incredible to this day.
Unfortunately, the larger gaming community started shifting towards FPS instant gratification games and MMOs. It seems like the entire flight sim genre died, except snooze-fest sims like MS Flight Simulator.
The games got too complicated. Every subsequent release had more and more commands, until it was overwhelming for new players. Players who started with x-wing and went all the way through had no problem, but I watched new players struggle with x-wing vs tie fighter. By x-wing alliance, they couldn't figure it out.
@@nocrtname Not complicated. X-Wing vs TIE Fighter suffered from a lack of proper single player story campaign. It also forced players to slow down to 1/3 in order to make tight turns, which gave enemy fighters the speed advantage every time. And if you even accidentally 'targeted' an enemy command ship, you were rewarded with an Advanced Missile, blowing you away. For whatever reason, laser speed was also increased, making attack runs on command ships pretty much impossible. The game also messed up the hitboxes, making it a chore for us to even hit slow moving Shuttles.
One of my favorites and the first space flight simulator game I played. Don't know when I'll get to this, but I will and it's awesome to see it exists!

The “Evil” Empire was always my favourite, since I first saw A New Hope The Empire was my go to. And when games like Tie Fighter and Force Commander came out my dream came true, playing as the true rulers of the galaxy!

This was the game that converted me from console boy to a member of the PC Master Race. After being used to 2D side-scrolling platformers and beat 'em ups, seeing this for the first time just blew my mind!

Tie Fighter was the only Star Wars game (including the other Sims) that felt realistic to me. Like how things really should behave and perform. Love it!!! I really hope this could have Coop multiplayer!!!
Oh wow, I can relive my 20's all over again :) This will compensate for the disappointment of SW Squadrons, whilst also making me want to dig out XWA (Oh that intro)
there are many space mods in battlefront 2 can get close experinece. and squadron game come out. its not sad state. for graphicly also did you ever paly death star level battlefront 2015 its graphicly superior.

How did I not know about this project until now? This is just what I need in my life! The remastered visuals are stunning, and the reimagined campaign looks fantastic. I still wish we'd get a proper successor, but this is more than good enough. I anticipate spending many hours playing this...
This is my favorite PC game of all time. I got really emotional watching this. Really got to go back to be 10 years old again. I can not thank you gentlemen enough. Just the trailer alone was worth it.

I still remember when my family bought our very first PC. We stopped at a Walmart on the way home and I bought TIE Fighter (and a flight stick) before we even got home to hook everything up. Great memories! Also, can we talk about that freaking soundtrack!?!?!?!
Did none of you kids play Force Commander? That game came out in 2000 and had an Imp turn Rebel. To whine like it's a Disney thing shows how fucking ignorant you all are.
Remember also that to defect to the Rebels, you must not have the Imperial accent, and must speak sympathetically as if that behavior is supported within the Imperial Navy, and then be shocked at what they expect you to do.

Ever since playing TIE Fighter, first the floppy version, then the CD-ROM version, I have been completely loyal to the keeper of peace and order, the infinite Galactic Empire.

Yep, this game changed my world view. Rebels were nothing more than a band of terrorists attacking law & order. How stupid I was to believe their lies up until I was 14.
This series had just enough of a learning curve to completely immerse you into the cockpit. Tie Fighter most of all, completely captured my imagination playing it as a kid, '98 cd. And when I revisit these games, they always hold up to what I remember. Looks like this is the perfect way to revisit hunting pirates, rebel scum and of course the dastardly Admiral Zaarin fleet.
Soon... peace and order... will be restored throughout the Galaxy. Even now, our capable forces, led by Darth Vader, are striking back at the Rebel insurgents. That intro is burned into my memory.
Original TIE Fighter is my all time favorite game by far. Perfection in all areas. Seeing this quarter century later melts my old nostalgic heart... If I may, I predict soon peace and order will be restored throughout the Galaxy! :)
I think it blew my mind more than any game I've played before or since. The depth, the care, the optimization, and the love that went into it are just unbelievable.
As a huge and long-time fan this looks exemplary. There's always an itch every half decade or so to replay this and now there's a fantastic reason to do so.
It’s crazy how obvious it is what everyone wanted (a single player remake or a follow up to X-Wing and TIE-Fighter) but no - all we got was Squadrons. Yes, it’s a good game but the fun has worn off already.
Because EA 'arcade-afied' it so as much as people want to say its like the old X-wing games, its really not. EA isnt about making good games, just making "good enough" games to make as much money as possible.
I mean, I don't know what to say to you. Like EAFront, EASquadrons wasn't really a game. A string of multiplayer maps with a thin as sugar paper 'campaign' to string some sort of substance into it.
Squadrons had a dumb campaign. I loved multiplayer but to few modes and maps. It doesn't even come close to the classic games story wise and gameplay wise.
Getting all bonus objectives was rather difficult in some missions... "Mission Critical Craft Under Attack" ... "Mission Critical Craft Hull Condition Critical"... "Mission Critical Craft Destroyed!" ...aaaand it's a restart ;-) Cannot wait to try that again
Wow this looks amazing! My dad and I used to play this all the time on the family computer when I was a kid in the mid 90s. He's since passed on but he would have loved to see this and it brought back a lot of really nice memories. Thank you
This is a freaking thing of beauty. Well done. This was one of my go-to games in the 90s and one of the first I tried to get EVERY achievement in. SO happy to see it so lovingly brought back to life like this.

My sister's boyfriend bought me this to impress me.... totally worked. I would come home after school for two weeks straight trying to figure out how to manually reconfigure the tiny amount of RAM I had so the game would run. What a glorious day it was when it finally worked!! Those were some very good times. So stoked someone(s) did this!!
I've bought from GoG the game back after some many decades. Alas on MAC it's not perfect (commands with joystick). But THIS made my day. Count me in!!!
Never played it but I just came to know about this, what a fantastic work. I wish game companies were this faithful and passionate. Thank you for all your work, this is going into my collection along with Force Unleashed, I believe so many folks are going to enjoy this masterpiece which is better than that EA Squadrons bs. Kudos to Angel and Team !!
Man this was my favorite game series back in the day and I loved Tie Fighter. Bought the expansions disks and had the playthrough book. This makes me happy and just fired me up to get a new computer.

I remember reading the manual and short background story for TIE Fighter. I didn't realize the empire recruited at the time. I was just a stupid kid after all.
Nice, plays pretty well on my Ultrabook with 10th gen Iris graphics. I still miss the flexability of the original briefings, where you could choose between cloaked figure and Lieutenant Grüber from Allo Allo. Still impressive job!!

0:39 even after almost 25 years, I still recognized the MC Cruiser "Lulsla". This was a masterpiece of a game and way ahead of its time.

Bloom settings can be adjusted, fine tuned or turned off entirely to your liking ;)
its thankfully a setting they ask you right in the installer. I selected "light bloom". Looks much better.

As a huge and long-time fan this looks exemplary. There's always an itch every half decade or so to replay this and now there's a fantastic reason to do so.
It’s crazy how obvious it is what everyone wanted (a single player remake or a follow up to X-Wing and TIE-Fighter) but no - all we got was Squadrons. Yes, it’s a good game but the fun has worn off already.
Because EA 'arcade-afied' it so as much as people want to say its like the old X-wing games, its really not. EA isnt about making good games, just making "good enough" games to make as much money as possible.

I mean, I don't know what to say to you. Like EAFront, EASquadrons wasn't really a game. A string of multiplayer maps with a thin as sugar paper 'campaign' to string some sort of substance into it.
Squadrons had a dumb campaign. I loved multiplayer but to few modes and maps. It doesn't even come close to the classic games story wise and gameplay wise.
I've said it many times: EA should stick to their boring, craptastic sports games.
Getting all bonus objectives was rather difficult in some missions...

Wow this looks amazing! My dad and I used to play this all the time on the family computer when I was a kid in the mid 90s. He's since passed on but he would have loved to see this and it brought back a lot of really nice memories. Thank you

This is a freaking thing of beauty. Well done. This was one of my go-to games in the 90s and one of the first I tried to get EVERY achievement in. SO happy to see it so lovingly brought back to life like this.

My sister's boyfriend bought me this to impress me.... totally worked. I would come home after school for two weeks straight trying to figure out how to manually reconfigure the tiny amount of RAM I had so the game would run. What a glorious day it was when it finally worked!! Those were some very good times. So stoked someone(s) did this!!

Tie-Fghter probably the most underappreciated piece of art (if you think games can be art) ever. Even as a game is isn't as revered as it should be.
I've bought from GoG the game back after some many decades. Alas on MAC it's not perfect (commands with joystick).
But THIS made my day. Count me in!!!
Never played it but I just came to know about this, what a fantastic work. I wish game companies were this faithful and passionate. Thank you for all your work, this is going into my collection along with Force Unleashed, I believe so many folks are going to enjoy this masterpiece which is better than that EA Squadrons bs. Man this was my favorite game series back in the day and I loved Tie Fighter. Bought the expansions disks and had the playthrough book. This makes me happy and just fired me up to get a new computer.

I remember reading the manual and short background story for TIE Fighter. I didn't realize the empire recruited at the time. I was just a stupid kid after all.
Nice, plays pretty well on my Ultrabook with 10th gen Iris graphics. I still miss the flexability of the original briefings, where you could choose between cloaked figure and Lieutenant Grüber from Allo Allo. Still impressive job!!
Oh yes, the agony of escort missions needs to be experienced again.

Trust me, escort missions in these games were nowhere near as mind-numbingly tedious as escort missions in SWG: JtLS 😂
