Why I didn't use all upgraded models of the X-Wing Upgrade Project?
Because this video was intended to be about the original game. Never the less, I do include one upgraded model (the SSD) to show that aspects of the game. Another reason is that using upgrade models makes drop fps in my computer (not sure why, because is a new computer).

20 years later, we're still without a Star Wars space simulator like "X-Wing" or more arcadish like "Rogue Squadron". Hard to believe.
Then, some people say: "Hey, but there are space battles in Battlefront II, right?"
NO, JUST NO.
When EA will release a similar XWA game: "Do you want to flight a Missile Boat? 20 €/month", "Call reinforcements more times in a mission? 2€/call"
just picked up this "old game" on steam and played it for the first time with a joystick, single player campaign is great !

@@Johannes9126 Anything you can do here you can do in Roguesquadron games, only with better graphics and better lighting effects everything better.
One of the best little things about this game is that it gave all this backstory to the cruiser Liberty. She's basically your home for the majority of the game, you fight alongside the squadrons aboard her and Commander Kupalo and Commander Zaletta are both notable characters throughout the game. And then you get the cutscene where the Death Star blows up the Liberty...
Oh yeah that really got you going, you really wanted to blow that sucker up after that!
Oh yes, When i saw that the laser blast takes out the liberty, I WANTED TO KILL ALL IMPS BY MYSELF!!!
and i always weep a tear for the Liberty when i watch the movie.
Played this as a little kid with a flight stick my dad found me. Some of my best childhood memories.
One of the most polished Star Wars games out there, and it's going to be 20 years old soon!
Its one of my favorite SW games, but it is NOT polished, I've ran into so many game breaking bugs in every playthrough, something that never happened in Republic Commandos or BF1&2

The seamless integration between the video games and EU books was the artistic apex of Lucasfilm.
I've always asked myself why the games industry seemed to completely forget the space flight sims genre.
Games like X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy (just to name a few) were hugely successful at their time, and there's plenty of players out there who would happily give their money for an up-to-date version of these games !

One of the greatest games ever made. 20 years old and it still looks and plays amazing. I've been playing it again last few weeks and man, it sucks you in. I still feel games late 90s early 2000s were the best.

Pretty much it was the peak, the last era when games were incredibly polished and complex with immersive gameplay. I love Atari era in the 80s, Amiga era late 80s/early 90s, PC DOS era (early 90s) and PC Windows era late 90s/early 2000s. After LCD monitors became the standard the games started to be garbage...
I remember really liking the Azzameen family storyline: the strained ties, divided family members, the last minute evacuation, the correspondence with your siblings.
This was the best X-Wing game in the series. The Azameen family should be proud of Ace!
I think the same. X-Wing Alliance have the best graphics and a good campaign. Wasn't perfect, but in my opinion was the best.

IMO the best one was Tie Fighter. But of course it's even older, and so the graphics are even worse on todays standards. Alliance takes the second place :)

I tried doing the death star 2 missions without any help as a matter of pride, but I just couldn't do it without either getting lost or crashing.
I kept collision, but turned on invincibility... at the second barrel roll I always got stuck somewhere and killed all my companions that bumped my rear

Loved this game. A true classic! My favorite was the combat simulator where I spent hours making my own space battles with numerous space ships and fighters to choose from!

I remember being a daemon in the YT-2000, i used to turn off all laser recharge and max speed and shields then use the auto turrets to engage things. It was glorious, thing was damn near impossible to kill.

This and Freespace 2 were the best space sims I have played.
Revisiting the game with XWAU Project mod. Having a blast - from nostalgia, excitement and that bandit on my 6. The true spirit of Star Wars, a quality game and characters I grew attached to even though I only know their voices. Just amazing.

I loved X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and XVT, but Alliance is above and beyond my favorite. I loved that they were able to weave a fairly interesting and original story into the events unfolding during the GCW. With the new mods from XWAU just damn.

Yes it exists! Check out xwaupgrade.com. People put thousands of hours into enhancing the 3D models. Install XWA using your old discs or STEAM, then run the free XWA upgrade package. I’m replaying the campaign, it’s great!
Sure brings lots of memories when I started playing these games on my Pentium 186.
These were one of the first two games we had on our first pentium 100, 25 odd years ago. We didn't even have a sound blaster in there yet, we had to make our PEW PEWs ourselves for a few months!
Very well done. I had hoped that Rogue One was a franchise reboot to pave way for a new XWing game with the good ol' Ep4-Ep6 time frame.

20 years ago. I Buy my first pc with graphic card. And the first game was X-wing Alliance. I just install and run the game so when i Saw the 3d graphics i scream WOOOOWWW and YEEESSSS. Súper fun powerfull game!
I played this game a long time ago but had an weird crashing error with the game so I could not finish it. Brought back memories and great editing! It’s too bad that single player games like this no longer exist.

Oh the flood of memories. The graphics are so potato by today's standards, but X-Wing Alliance got so much of that Star Wars gravy just- *chef's kiss*.
I can tell I played this game way too much as I got angry when the B-Wings at 1:46 fires their torpedoes without taking out the shield generators first 🤦🏻♂️

I found the story in this game more engaging than any of the films after ROTJ tbh.

I broke SO many joysticks to this game as a kid, and boy my dad was PISSED! Lolz. All I really did were the simulations but this game is on my top 5 childhood favorites with Ocarina of Time and (If were including my teenage years) the ORIGINAL Battlefront 2 for PC and PS2. Other games on my childhood favorites: Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith, Grim Fandango, and Full Throttle. Hail to the oldschool Lucas arts games. (I know Ocarina of Time is Nintendo, but it was that game and X-Wing Alliance that really sold it for me back then.)

I remember the first time I played this game. It was a demo that came in a gaming magazine. You know, those CDs fill with demos? I played that demo like 100 times. A few years later I had the chance to play the full game. It was the first game from the x-wing series that I ever played.
@@interlinkknight Holy crap. Those were the days. Demo disks in magazines, wooh. But yea, I had so much fun just trying to fly every ship I could in tje simulations, then went to challenge myself against star destroyers. It took me forever, but I can easily say one of my greatest and fondest gaming memories was finally beating the super star destroyer solo. No allied ships, just me and it. I used a Skipray Blastboat loaded to the teeth with proton torpeedoes.

VR is included in the XWA Upgrade project. Check Google and you’ll find it. There are a couple of issues with the aiming reticule and field of view, but they’re doing a fantastic job modernizing a 20 year old game. :)

This game was freaking awesome. Had all of the action and excitement of the first 2 X-wing games and added an really compelling storyline to it, along with good side characters. A great addition to the EU. An expanded / adapted version of this story could have made an anthology film far better than what we got with Solo.

Yeah I totally agree. Always thought the T/F 'pod' looked really bulbous and the X-wing cockpit was too shallow. Glad someone else noticed.
These expanded universe rebel ships…. look Disney, this is how space battles were supposed to look like. Worse quality and they still did a better Show than all movies 7-9 together. Yea 9 will suck too, dont even have to see it.
At least we got an really good space battle in rogue one.

The spacebattles in the prequels sucked too (espacilly in episode 1when a kid saved the day). I am a bit biased because i love the ot the most but it seems like it is the only era where good space battles hapened.

But the prequels meh… actually I really like Episode 1. I often thought about that movie, what should be different. Like instead of Jar Jar being clumsy, he should have been banned because he killed people, sounds way more badass.
And for Anakin, he should have just been older already. It wouldnt have been so cringy with him being a 9 year old flying in space… I have no solution for the podrace though

Lol I still remember that first mission with the wannabe Millenium Falcon's
Millenium Falcon itself is a classic yt-1300 commercial ship, very modified. The ships you pilot at the beginning are also modified yt-1300, just way less modified. You can see the difference, because at one point you can pilot the actual Falcon and it has 2 turrets instead of one and has better speed and manoeuvrability.

Graphics may have advanced in the last 21 years, but the gameplay and enjoyment factor haven't been beaten yet. No power ups, no different levels of weapons or ships, just here you go, fly it as-is.

Even if there will now be Star Wars Squadrons, you really need to reimagine your vids with the X-Wing Upgrade Project. It's just necessary! :D
When i installed upgrades to my computer, the game run slow (drop FPS). I had a really hard time dealing with this because of the SSD that i used from the project. The video was about the original game, anyways.

We need an HD remaster of this for modern hardware. Steam version missions are bugged to hell.
Still better than anything in the Sequels, even with the PS1-lookin' low-polygon ship models.
Games back then had more soul.
This game would play into the best aspects of modern graphics. You don't really need to ray trace because water and reflection effects to that level of accuracy aren't really important here. Tessellation would be perfect for drawing in detail without model swapping and particle effects can be done pretty easily today. Real time dynamic lighting doesn't require ray tracing and modern GPUs can do this without much trouble at all.
That ship at 12:13 looks alot like the Discovery from 2010 lol

Well, it's 2021 and we have Squadrons now, which like most of the better bits of Disney Star Wars, feels almost there, but still a tad... off.
This game with XWAU and the mod that uses the voices from the film for the final DS2 battle... it's still great 22 years later.

the movie people really need to set up their scenarios in this game, get real humans to fly the missions, then re-render with better graphics. I've never seen anything to compare with a full on multiplayer mission. Epic
