I was intrigued by the possibility of a cheap fix for a big boat, and y'all's infectious positive attitude got me hooked. Always looking for positive content and especially couples and families doing things together. Keep it coming.
I will say my wife is also my assistant mechanic my junior Carpenter and my Apprentice plumber. She is very much like his wife and that she is always eager to learn something new and help the team effort to fix whatever life brings in front of us
Boat terminology lesson #1: the "window" above the bed in the bow is a hatch. Also, please run the bilge blower for about a minute or so every time before starting the engine and leave it running until the boat is underway. A small fuel leak in the engine bay will cause an explosive mixture and blow your boat to toothpicks on startup (happens way too often). The blower will clear out this explosive mixture. Also, always use marine rated parts (not local auto parts store stuff) as they are certified to be non sparking for marine environments (again with the blowing up to toothpicks problem).
Some manuals say run the blower for 4 minutes before starting. That alarm when you turn the key on is likely for low engine oil pressure, high engine temp, low outdrive oil reservoir level, low trim pump reservoir level, etc. Some even alarm on gas vapors in engine bay. Anyhooo, it's supposed to alarm every time you start the boat as proof that is is working. If the boat has spent a lot of time in the water, you should check and replace the anode(s). Anodes corrode sacrificially (galvanic corrosion) so that the drive and engine metals don't corrode. Anodes are usually mounted on the the lower drive unit (may be a couple) and on the trim rams. Check your drive model, but you're looking for something like this when replacing: www.amazon.com/Mercruiser-Bravo-Anode-Kit-1989-Present-B2/dp/B072DZCJDT Aaron, do you know how lucky you are to have a wife that will help lift a lower unit? Hope you don't mind me sharing some experience with you. Be safe and have fun.
Also make sure wants you got "Old "Betsy in the water to turn on the bilge pump and leave it on while she's in the water, they all are built with an auto shut off. You'll hear it come on and off to keep her dry, :)
The joys of owning a boat: paying double or triple the price of a car part so that it's sealed and won't blow you up. Need a new starter? That's $50 for a car, or $200 for a boat.
The boat is cool and the husband wrenching is cool dude stuff but what makes these videos great is the wife. She is just so happy and optimistic. Her energy just comes through the screen! You guys rock!
My wife and I went on CL and found a pontoon boat for sale for $1000. The guy selling it was over his Dads estate. When we showed up to buy, there were like 10 other people that showed. So the seller put 1 yes and a bunch of No’s in a hat. I was the first to pull and we pulled the yes. Outboard motor on boat only had 8 hrs on it and the boat was awesome. Best deal ever got on CL.
I enjoyed this video for a number of reasons -- the biggest one was that you worked as a team. In any relationship, that's the gold standard. Also, this lady is a ray of sunshine. That's contagious enthusiasm right there.
That’s a marine cam in the engine. So glad to see that your wife is 100% into this. Your a lucky guy to have such a happy chipper wife. Take care of her. She’s a keeper.

Having watched these two working harmoniously together I pledge to amend my behaviors and to work with my wife in a civil manner. Great job guys! You both are talented, inspirational and a joy to watch!
The boat for $5k is a good deal, but a good used Bravo 3 for $1250? That's a steal! A new upper gearset for a Bravo drive costs $2500 in parts alone, not including labor.

It's so great to see a woman who is happy helping working on a boat. I have yet to find one. Absolutely amazing deal as well. Most times you find that you sink a lot more than that on boats that break the lower unit. If you are ever in Florida, would love to meet on the water. P.S. Bow and Stern and I personally would never crank the engine without water, even for a little bit.
Hey Guys My name is Edwin I served in the US Navy and Coast Guard. My advice to you save the second unit. Invest in re-building it. Keep it as a back up spare, just in case if needed in the future. The next stop is Finnegans shop for twin turbos!! You two are the most deserving best folks to get this deal, you don’t mind getting dirty to fix it and get out on the water!!!! Have a great time.
As a fellow (and semi-jealous) boat owner, I am freaking stoked for you two. And ignore the naysayers that say 'break out another thousand'. Maintaining a boat can be expensive, but you can guys can do your own maintenance/repairs, so you're already ahead of 80% of other boaters who have to pay others to do it for them. Plus, you guys straight up stole that boat! You hit the boat lottery in my opinion...plus you are one of the few who have a truck that can pull a rig like that. Looking forward to more boat videos...next time find one that requires more work to repair so I can enjoy the ride (haha). Congrats you guys!!!
That's what I'm sayin dude. I recently got a boat that needs fiberglass and has a 50 year old merc 650 on her. But I'm good with motors and bodywork, and the trailer alone is worth most of what I paid, so I don't care what people say. It'll get me to where the fish are at
@@jasonmacneil2256 not at all, I definitely mean “following”. The phrase "Fair winds and following seas," implies that a vessel will have good winds, and not have to pound into the waves.
Couple of quick thoughts even though I'm late to this party: Never start the engine without first running the blower for a minute or two to evacuate any gas fumes (and hopefully avoid an explosion) and don't trailer at highway speeds with your bimini deployed...most are only rated to about 25mph. That's all I got. :-)
Absolutely an Incredible breath of FRESH AIR watching you two!!! Fantastic team work, truly! What a gift you both have in one another and it comes through on camera! Keep recording and inspiring us all. Live Well. Be Well. Cheers! 😉
The best deal I ever got was about 3 years ago my friends and I we're at a topless club and I got a lap dance that was $100.00 , and right in the middle of it the girl who was giving me the lap dance asked me if I was from CT she looked kind of familiar and then she was really looking familiar 😂😂 she was one of my old friends wife, so whatever blah blah blah she didn't want anybody to know she was working at the club, got the lap dance and little 5 minute loving for free. Best deal ever.
I don’t know you guys, but I am super excited that you found this awesome boat for this awesome price, and then after that BOTH of you were able to fix it. I can’t get over her attitude toward the whole thing, she is soo enthusiastic about it, congrats to both and good luck with it!!!!
I have this same boat and have loved it for years. The best upgrade I made was an extended swim platform. Completely changed the utility for everything I do with the boat. Hope you continue love this boat.
For the first few minutes of this video I thought you two were crazy! I have been a boater all my life and I know how much trouble a boat can be. And, I still love boating! So I assumed the two of you were in for a hard lesson. I was wrong. You both have the brains and skills needed to take on a boat in need of repair. You did everything right, all the way down to the wheel bearings on the trailer! Great video.
Im so happy for you both! Be safe out there. Ive fished in the North Atlantic for 36 years. I've seen weather come from nowhere and there are people who drink and drive on boats basically anything can happen. Bodies of water can be dangerous. So please be careful and enjoy your new boat! 👍😁
Probably but they can always sell it if they want and make for sure their money back plus some. The fun they had in between is all free. I did the same with a motor home.
Other boaters might cringe when you say “nose”. The front end is the bow. The narrow projection is the bowsprit and the surround railings form the pulpit. The back end is the stern, and the vertical back is the transom. You can also say “go forward”to mean go towards the bow, or “go astern” or “go aft” to mean go towards the stern. The vertical back end is the transom. The passage from the steering area (“the cockpit”) to the cabin is the companionway. The bathroom is the “head” and the kitchen is the “galley”. When you go down to the cabin you’re “going below”. The cabin floor is the “sole”. Windows are “ports”, which is confusing since the left side as you face forward is the port side. The right side is starboard. Enjoy your new boat and the memories you’ll create!
I hear ya!!! Lol! I gotta say though- It was sure as hell a HAPPY DAY when we took our 5k dollar yacht that we fixed for $1,250 bucks out on the lake, made dinner and watched the freakin sunset!!!! 😂😂😂 and Russ!! Market value on the dang thing is easily 20k 🤪🙌🏼
Love the video about your Bayliner 2855. My wife and I just 3 weeks ago bought a Bayliner Ciera 2455. Ours is a 2001 model. We paid 13,500 for it and they were asking 12,500. I have been wanting a cabin cruiser ever since our 1998 stingray super sport SVB 192. The motor on the Bayliner of ours is a Mercury 5.0L 305cc. Engine purrs and outdrive works great but, we did have to replace the prop and after that we did see a great improvement in the performance as far as no more major vibration because of the old bent and chewed up prop. You all got a great deal even having to replace the outdrive. We did find out the hard way that the fridge doesn't work. Still trying to figure that out. The fan comes on but I dont hear the compressor kick on which is telling me that the compressor is either bad or there is a regulator problem. We also have 12v lighting and our electrical panel for the shore power has a lighting breaker which from what I see is 120v power as well as the fridge either works on 12v or 120v but I dont see an inverter controlling these two things... Have you all figured this out and if you have can you elaborate?
Saw this girl using torque wrench and say. Ok this planet isn´t so fucked up yet. We still can survive with people like you both. And you are so lovely couple. Wish you luck with those amazing projects. Love your videos and you transmit a lot of good energies. Thanks

Nice deal . I'd suggest running the props you took off the old out drive they are most likely matched to.the boat from the factory . Also run it a few times give it a good cleaning and sell it before the end of summer for 20k
That was a deal of a lifetime for anyone wanting a great looking boat. Glad to see that it was a reasonable fix and that the used part worked flawlessly after it got some more oil to keep it slick. What kind of distance can you travel (out and back) if you keep the speed in check?
That’s only true if you can’t afford to maintain the boat properly. It definitely stands for Break Out Another Thousand, but if you can afford it, there is nothing better than going out for weeks at a time and going down the coast or island hopping
If the boat is just a toy that you use a bunch at first and then it just sits there this is true but would be true for any mechanical toy however if fishing skiing or other water sports are your passion you will not sell your boat unless your getting another just like a biker and his Harley it’s not a financial investment it’s an joy and lifestyle investment

It'll get me to where the fish are at
The only thing better than owning a boat is having a friend that owns a boat.
mopar one same with motor homes. Especially if you buy one from a bigger dealer in Boise, Idaho with the very worst of customer service. IMO.
The only thing better than owning a boat is flipping said boat for more cash than you paid. Boats can be money pits.
or brother-in-law with your old boat :)
mopar one I say friends that have a boat are better. All you have to do is chip in for gas and booze!!! lol
The only thing better than owning a boat would be having a woman like that. WOW! Beauty, Brains, Attitude and not afraid to dig in.
I love your enthusiasm and willingness to make things work. Good luck, fair winds and following seas to you both.
"Following"??? Don't you mean FAIR seas??
@@jasonmacneil2256 not at all, I definitely mean “following”.
The phrase "Fair winds and following seas," implies that a vessel will have good winds, and not have to pound into the waves.
@@seaangling oh, okay. Well you learn something new every day.
@@jasonmacneil2256 every day is a school day. 😉
you got the once in a lifetime deal on your boat, she's a real beauty.
The boat is nice too
Couple of quick thoughts even though I'm late to this party: Never start the engine without first running the blower for a minute or two to evacuate any gas fumes (and hopefully avoid an explosion) and don't trailer at highway speeds with your bimini deployed...most are only rated to about 25mph. That's all I got. :-)
You're right about that.
What a woman! What a team, I'm not even interested in this, I watched the whole thing! Love the dynamic. 🧡❤️
Don’t forget to run blower prior to starting, I’ve seen a few boats go BOOM!!
Good to see you both know what your doing. Me a retired Marine tech. Now for that crusty big block.
It is simply great to see people happy and positive minded like you both, that is the only thing that counts. Enjoy your life!!
It is called: Faith!
Absolutely an Incredible breath of FRESH AIR watching you two!!! Fantastic team work, truly! What a gift you both have in one another and it comes through on camera! Keep recording and inspiring us all. Live Well. Be Well. Cheers!
😉
this guy is my hero - he got a hot girl on a big boat and NO bear belly ... goals broski - goals!
so true. that is one thing i will never get, a soft bloated belly. i lose a little respect for people who let themselves get flabby.
Yeah, she's hot AF...
Simps
It's beer belly not bear belly lolol
@@anitahardesty2163 both are fitting due to the size and dimensions lol
The best deal I ever got was about 3 years ago my friends and I we're at a topless club and I got a lap dance that was $100.00 , and right in the middle of it the girl who was giving me the lap dance asked me if I was from CT she looked kind of familiar and then she was really looking familiar 😂😂 she was one of my old friends wife, so whatever blah blah blah she didn't want anybody to know she was working at the club, got the lap dance and little 5 minute loving for free. Best deal ever.
Broke bro code, but I guess she’s a lyin cheater anyway. Noice
Was it a happy 5th minute?
Wouldn't pay $1 for a lap dance... you must be desperate...
What are the chances?
I don’t know you guys, but I am super excited that you found this awesome boat for this awesome price, and then after that BOTH of you were able to fix it. I can’t get over her attitude toward the whole thing, she is soo enthusiastic about it, congrats to both and good luck with it!!!!
I have this same boat and have loved it for years. The best upgrade I made was an extended swim platform. Completely changed the utility for everything I do with the boat. Hope you continue love this boat.
Get yourself a girl that looks at you the way Emily looks at Aaron. I see the glint in her eye every time.
an amazing woman and an amazing man they both are lucky kinda jealous ngl lol
she plays to the camera too much - frustrated actress maybe
Amen brother, amen!
Twenty seven years and my wife still looks at me like that. It touches my very soul every time.
@Roald Shakleton Both are in their mid thirties, so you're way off.
Emily: Two engines would be so cool!
Aaron: (stoic and practical) ...and cost a fortune in gas.
I love the dynamic!
Talk to Finnegan? - He'll probably recommend twin turbos with custom headers...
Disk0 We’ve already discussed how much room is in that engine compartment 😂
Or custom headers and a gnarly supercharger
Exactly. Finnegan doesn't bull shit. Get with it Flying Sparks
@@flyingsparksgarage Finnegan also says LSX works well.
More power won’t make much of a difference with this cabin cruiser. It is what it is!
never start one without water, it will ruin the impeller every-time. Even for just a muinte.
The boat reminds me of my kids.. got a good deal at the beginning but it'll be expensive later..
Probably but they can always sell it if they want and make for sure their money back plus some. The fun they had in between is all free. I did the same with a motor home.
Nothing more expensive than a free boat!
Awesome video! I’ve owned a cruiser for over 30 years and have never done as much mechanical drive work as you did day 1!
This is a really great deal! Impressive.
I legitimately love your relationship as well. You two are a great couple.
Take a minute and do a SAFETY check on you new toy. Fire extinguishers, life jackets, etc. Looks like fun.:-)
Its so cool that you and your dad still hang out
Other boaters might cringe when you say “nose”.
"boat" and "investment" never go in the same sentence. B.O.A.T.= Bust Out Another Thousand.
The two best days that you own a boat: The day you buy it and the day you sell it.
Depends if you buy it right or not. Seems like they bought this one right
The seller was like...."Thank god this is gone"
truer words have never been spoken
Boat - a big hole in the water where you throw your money. I bought a big boat like this once, used it for a few months and flipped it for a profit.
love it and you having a plus for a lady that not afraid of getting oil n dirty and stands by you . Congrats to you both
2 happy days in owning a boat. The day you buy it, and the day you sell it...
@@flyingsparksgarage I'm just teasing. I had a 16' edson and a catamaran and loved both.
Yooooo it's deboss garage!!!!
What a magnetic and energizing personality you have! Great job all the way around. You two sum up the word team work.
Great video!
Keep'em coming!
For many people! But not us. We use ours every weekend in the summer. Fantastic fun.
Thanks
Love how you guys work together as a team ... AWESOME!!
Good job guys ! I love how shiny and excited she is and how calm is he , lol . Good couple. I love good deals too ;) .
Fellow members of the board can agree he executed that sentence flawlessly
@ 5:14 when he said “it requires a lot of specials tools” and looks at her
Don’t run a marine engine without water. It can ruin your impeller. They depend on being wet for lubrication.
Truth
Also catch the exhaust on fire.
billyfromtheusa ... changing an impeller is a pain in the ass, why shorten the life of something unnecessarily?
Only takes a second!
@@microfarmers Takes a FEW seconds, but they definitely were dancin' in the DANGER zone, revving it up forward AND reverse. You can test for fire and shut off immediately and not heat up the impeller.
It's easier to win the lottery than to have a woman like her. This kind of woman is extinct. you are a very lucky man.
I think these are her ideas, he's along for the ride, and wrenching, the fact she's involved is amazing, I doubt my wife would know how to start my table saw.

"Oh no, they bought a boat with a Mercury outdrive. But they're gonna replace it! . . . with another Mercury. Uh-oh."
In all seriousness, it'll probably work just fine for a rec boat application. Y'all are gonna have a blast. Make sure you got all your deck lines and bumpers ready. Life vests, fire extinguishers, etc. Safety first. One new knot every week. Enjoy!
Yeah I'm thinking that this couple is about to get a crash course on boat bullshit from a pesky guy with a badge. Fire extinguisher?
What for?

Most excellent kids .
Keep up the good work !!!
Take the time to clean that mounting out really well .. No hurry especially with such a steal . !!
I absolutely love how you two work together and are both mechanically inclined
As a boat repair shop owner I suggest you get the factory manual for that outdrive. You are doing a great job you just need a little help.
What's your thoughts on the extension they used to torque with?
Your excitement was contagious and it made me happy for the 2+1 of you. Great video. It put a smile on my face. Congratulations - the boat was a great find and kudos to a man who found a wife who'll gets her hands dirty and shares in the adventure! :-)
Sure appreciate that!!!!
I hope you realize how incredibly lucky you two are to not have any further issues. Great find. Happy boating!
Thee boat project, I learned so much. It is definitely right to the point without extreme talking and I like that.
Nice deal . I'd suggest running the props you took off the old out drive they are most likely matched to.the boat from the factory . Also run it a few times give it a good cleaning and sell it before the end of summer for 20k
20k🤣🤣 Your dreaming
You had me at, "Is that a cam or a miss"! That's a gearhead who knows her stuff! Great job guys!!
Refill the outdrive from the bottom up when it's empty to avoid air pockets..
That was a deal of a lifetime for anyone wanting a great looking boat. Glad to see that it was a reasonable fix and that the used part worked flawlessly after it got some more oil to keep it slick. What kind of distance can you travel (out and back) if you keep the speed in check?
you guys make a great team! love seeing that dynamic!
I never comment on youtube videos, but I just have to say that I really enjoyed watching you two. Way to go and way to work together!

BOAT= Break Out Another Thousand!
That’s only true if you can’t afford to maintain the boat properly. It definitely stands for Break Out Another Thousand, but if you can afford it, there is nothing better than going out for weeks at a time and going down the coast or island hopping
Yep. The BEST boat to use is your neighbor's boat!
What a delightful couple. Hope you continue to enjoy life in all its fullness.
B.O.A.T.... break out another thousand... you two are so lucky catching a deal like that. Love your Channel.
