  • Can three letters absolutely redefine your life? When facing a tragedy can we use the situation to strengthen our resolve, to build better relationships, and to connect more deeply with those around us? What lessons can we apply in our lives by facing difficult situations? Hear about the impact of ALS and how families cope with diagnosis. Zoe Lalji has always fought for the things she’s believed in. She is many things at the young age of 17. A writer, a musician, an ALS Advocate, CEO and founder of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a high school senior aiming for an Entrepreneurship Diploma. Ever since last November when her father, her hero, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), she has been dedicated to raising awareness for ALS and researching to find a cure for this devastating disease. In inheriting this mission, she has formed the Lalji ALS Foundation, which was featured on Great Day Houston on October 3. She also lead an ALS Day of Silence Campaign on October 18, wherein over 500 students practiced silence to raise awareness for ALS patients who cannot speak. Zoe hopes to help move the needle in finding a cure for ALS and as such is entering into the field of medicine, neuroscience and research. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

So many people afraid of those 3 letters .. but the most don’t help looking for a cure.. we need to stand up as humanity spend 10000 millions to find a cure.. we need to force governments.

As someone who knew you in elementary school, I am so amazed at the amazing woman you have become and I strive to be as strong as you. You are truly an inspiring person and I wish you and your family well as you go through this difficult journey. Never give up. You have accomplished so much already, and I know that there is so much more in store for you still.

I was just diagnosed with ALS, my 2 legs and left hand are affected so far, I’ve had to leave work on disability tho, I’m praying for a medicine to stop the progression.

39 anos e há 10 anos com ELA (ALS), como se diz, no Brasil. Sem tratamentos. Respirando por aparelhos. Aguardando uma esperança de vida.

ALS is a prolonged gruesome death. Per chance an appliance could be engineered to amplify the fading vestiges of his motor neuron impulses and thereby maintain mobility until the bitter end. Cheers!

When countries allocate billions for their arsenal and weapons, I wonder why we have to still wait for funds for research and trials to discover life saving drugs. Where are we heading to, to destroy lives or to save lives?

ALS is not that rare!! If 2 people out of 100,000 are diagnosed with ALS every year and assuming a life expectancy of 80 years then each of us has a 1:625 chance of getting this disease during lifetime! Anyway, lots of so called 'medical experts' seem to get in wrong either.

Wouldn't that be BIZARRE if you were doing something as major as a TED talk and didn't have weeks of rehearsals, as well as a team of coaches helping you? Also, I didn't think she sounded rehearsed at all in the way you're implying. She sounded amazing.
