    This video makes me so happy that there is hope for a disease that is so horrifying. No one deserve to go through the horror of this disease. I hope that they are able to get this drug on the market very soon so it can start saving lives. In the meantime if the potential cure is a dietary substance, is there something that people can be eating high amounts of to prevent and lower the risk of ALS? This is another instance where diet plays such a significant role in overall health. The last tedx video i watched was about how a certain diet may be able to be used to treat cancer and epilepsy. It is amazing how big of a role it can play. It has the potential to kill you (neurotoxins from cyanobacteria) or possibly save your life. Diet seems to be a common pattern for many diseases. This video is three years old so I am very interested to see how far they have come with this drug and where they are currently in helping to cure ALS. I hope that the cure is known soon because no one deserves to experience this disease.

    So...building upon the work done using _Ketone Esters_ [beta-hydroxybutrate (BHB)], add _L-Serine_ to that.
    OR use _virgin coconut oil + MCT oil_ to achieve a more sustained level in the body; about 7 tsp. four times daily....provides a more even body level.
    Cut sugar out of diet; cut grains out [because those turn to sugar]. Because, if one consumes more good fats, and also eats the usual levels of sugars/grains/carbs, the body will use the carbs FIRST, because it's fast, and store the fat.
    BUT...if one cuts out most carbs, using a ketogenic diet or Paleo type diet, the body will burn the fats as ketones.
    Since MCT oil can too easily slide into the airways [very bad!] when swallowed plain, it's best to mix it into food, like a meal shake, or into avocado, etc. This is especially important to those who have swallowing deficits related to their disease process.

      @@KayceCrews Absolutely, and a vegan diet makes people feel great, too. Neither of these diets are shown to protect against ALS, Parkinson's or Alzheimer's, though. (A vegan diet is sometimes used in conjunction with medication with MS, though.)

  • @juliagoesfrugal
    @juliagoesfrugal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Yes, BMAA is an issue that causes neurodegenerative disease and upping intake of L-Serine is a viable prevention - and even helps slow progression in new ALS diagnoses. That being said, it's not a cure yet, but we're so close to being there. This was 7 years ago. What other breakthroughs have been done? I know in 2017 they did Phase 1 of the L-Serine trials and Phase 2 is underway. Is taking L-Serine orally enough once the disease has begun? What about intravenous? In the spinal cord? I will be curious to see what Phase 2 results hold.
    Personally, after all the research done in Ogimi, I'm upping my L-Serine intake. I take it in a pure form & I've begun incorporating more L-Serine in my natural diet, too, by eating tofu, eggs, seaweed and sweet potatoes.

      It hasn't reached that phase yet but I've thought of it. In order for them to be able to do that they would have to get approval to try it in clinical experimental trials. It's worth trying since ALS patients have no other hope.

      I believe it is, although I’m not a doctor or a scientist, I was recently diagnosed at the age of 51 years old with autism spectrum disorder. I saw a lecture where they had mentioned that people with autism especially women, have higher rates of Parkinson’s ALS and Alzheimer’s in their population. And that stiffness and other muscle skeletal disorders were common as well. To me that suggests they are somewhat related. I don’t know the exact lecture but I saw it here on TH-cam, you could probably search older people with autism symptoms and related disorders/relationship between neurodegenerative diseases.

Both of these people lived to old age and had highly satisfying lives. My family member absolutely had no abandonment, nor regection, nor hope, issues.
