    3000X Series - amzn.to/4bWmnj1
    Philips seems to keep changing models, but all the 3000 series ones seem to be like the 2 shown in the video! X series adds USB A charging to the same basic design

    I have been using one of these for about a month now. I have been shaving for 64 years and this is the best that I have had, far better than my previous Braun, which was more expensive. I get around 18 shaves from a one hour charge. Yes, it sounds slow and feeble, but is actually very efficient.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I get along fine with it; the motors are quiet. Hence some people seem to think they are under-powered, which isn't really the case. I did try the entry Bruan shavers; I would give this the advantage for comfort and shave quality.

    I just purchased it around 18:20 from the local grocery store here in Toronto called Fortino's. I just used it for the first time after charging it, and it is the best Phillishave I have ever used. the one which is more expensive I had stepped on 11 months ago. I bought a cheap one like the one on the right in your video. It's by far the best one they have made that I have purchased. I will purchase a more expensive one next year after I have paid off all my debts. P.K.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not sure how much better the higher prices ones are, not really considered one. All I can say is this gives a pretty good shave way nicer than the Braun one I had a few years ago, wet or dry wet seems to be a closer shave.
      Two models shown have the same heads/same shave, Philips just seem to change the basic body design for some reason

    New model is not underpowered, it is just much quieter. They have done an amazing job with that.

      @@MrBazReviews If you open both shavers and look at the turning speed of those 3 rubber things you will notice that the old model spins quite faster. However the new model shaves superb. This one replaces my slightly over two year-old Aquatec, which had the switch/capacitor/battery drain issues in that order... Instead of shutting the unit off, the problematic on/off switch tends to stick after using the shaver regularly, thus re-routing the power through the capacitors and other components, completely draining and making the battery inoperable... Since it would cost me more to replace the switch, the battery, and a capacitor or two than the unit was worth, I pitched it, and purchased this one... I also purchased a retailer's warranty as well JIC... This one has to seem to have a more solidly built switch, improved recharge indicators, and has a pivoting head... A little better in dry shaving (with a pre-shave lotion) than the Aquawreck was...We'll see how far this one goes...

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not tried that make, so far this seems to be working OK thanks for sharing your thoughts on this

    • @Jhihmoac
      @Jhihmoac 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBazReviews - As far as I can see, the blades the 3000 uses are not of the "Lift & Cut" (MQ8) variety like the Aquawreck has, but I hardly notice the difference, and besides, I've been using a pre-shave lotion ever since my first Philips/Norelco unit back in the mid/late 70s (the kind that you COULDN'T get wet whatsoever), which lasted me over 7 years of heavy use until the motor burned out... The previous Aquatec unit was the first Philips shaver I had purchased in well over 30 years of conventional (hand shaver/ cream), and the foil type (Remington) I had been using since my first Norelco rotary type gave out... I had thought the product was still as durable as the one back then... BIG mistake!

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jhihmoac The higher end Philips ones seem to use a slimmer head design, apart from that I can't say what else they offer much over this (few things like display/battery life). I went for the 3000 as it's wet and dry, the 1000 is dry only. I did see a 9000 Prestige for £400, can't say I'd want to spend that much on a shaver! Seems a bit nuts really and overkill.
      All I know is v the Braun type foils I've used, I think it gives a better shave. Not tried any new ones from them for a while, Have to see how it lasts and holds up with long term use. I can see why it's so popular, at this price (I got a pretty nice deal) it's enough shaver for most. Even if it did pack in after a few years use, it's cheap enough to buy again and not worry about it. Only downside is you can't use it plugged in, so when the battery wears out you'll have to replace it or get another one

    • @Jhihmoac
      @Jhihmoac 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBazReviews - Other than wet/dry, more expensive blade/head replacement, easier access to the blades themselves, the entire triple head assembly set on a single multidirectional floating pivot, and the high price (about $95 USD to start and upwards from there), I know little about anything that falls under the 5000 series all the way to the 9000 Prestige (the latter about $350 - $400)... I wouldn't pay that much for a shaver, either! I thought the Aquawreck a bit high at $80... Even the old "Steelhead" (Three 12 blade rotary cutters that had to be soaked overnight in a special alcohol-based cleaning/lubricating solution once every two weeks - Exposure to ordinary water would rust them out within a fortnight!) Adjustable rechargeable unit I first had in 1977 was expensive at then the mid/late 70s price of $49.99, which would translate to about the $200 to $250 range today! Fortunately, that one was an Xmas gift...

    I do not have a lot of experience with electric shavers as I have usually wet shaved. I have had three different electric shavers in total. A Philips I inherited from my father about 20 years ago, similar in design to the model demonstrated. It was much heavier and it worked very well, better than this model. Unfortunately I lost it. I replaced it with a Braun in 2014. The Braun had a very good motor and had a solid feel. It was well engineered and felt like the business but it did not give a close shave, no matter how many times you went over the same area and at what angle. It was a big disappointment quite honestly. It was a mid range shaver so in direct competition with the Aquatouch3000. So last week I decided to revert to Philips and ordered this one. When I opened the box I was amazed at how light and flimsy it is compared to the Braun. It seems like it's doing nothing when you use it but when you open the hair collector you find hairs in there so it is working. As the reviewer says, it is good around the neck area which is difficult to cut with a wet shave. However I find myself going backwards and forwards for a very long time, about 25 minutes, before I can get a close shave. Forget the idea that you can get good results in 5 minutes but you will get good results eventually. In summary, flimsy and slow but ultimately effective.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no way it will take 25 minutes to get a close shave. A few points, wash face before use to clear off grease and it lifts the hairs. If needed stretch the skin to help when shaving. Also it works well for a wet shave and in 2-3 minutes you can get a good shave no question.

    I think the new series 3000 are little downgrade from the previous years. Previous years you can use it with the cable while shaving. When you battery die suddenly like it happens most time when you are in a hurry this is the greatest option. Also have Li-ion battery and will have the power till the end of the battery. But for safety issues they don't make them anymore like that and everything became cordless.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battery should start flashing and have about 4-5 minutes left, least this one does. The have to charge part, yeah no doubt someone would plug in and try to shave in the shower and electrocute themselves! What I wish they would do is ditch the mains cable plug and just use a type C for charging - that way for travel or using it when charging the lower voltage would be safe enough so nothing bad happens if it got wet. I've seen other brands do that

    • @TheMilenkata
      @TheMilenkata 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBazReviews well if someone is that stupid to do it while taking shower then the natural selection will do it's job at it's finest. This is great idea with the type C-port. But Philips still make money from aftermarket accessories ...

    • @MrBazReviews

      @@TheMilenkata Other shaves I had ages ago you could just plug them in flat battery and use them it is useful. Or if the battery is gone use it as a mains shaver. They were not wet shavers though. Yeah I'd say someone is dumb enough to do it, or course most normal people would think wow bad idea but I bet someone has done it.
      I don't even have a charger socket for a shaver in the bathrooms I have, but I know hotels often do. Still I think the type C would solve that problem 5V isn't going to hurt anyone!
      I'll see how this one pans out it's been pretty good so far, I'm not a £500 shaver kinda guy!

  • @jayryan7473

    This shaver sucks. If this is the only shaver you've ever used I can understand why you're okay with it. Your life will get much better if you throw it in the trash and buy a better one. I've come to realize they're putting tiny motors in these so the blades spin slow. Apparently this helps some people with razor burn, and it helps make the razor quieter. Unfortunately for the rest of us we just end up with a cheaply made tool that takes forever to shave with. Initially I bought a Braun but those blades spin extremely slow also so I returned it to buy this Philips. I simply cannot shave with this anymore because it takes so long. I don't even have much facial hair, and I can't even grow a beard. I'm just trying to shave the whiskers that grow on my cheeks and chin and it still takes way too long. I'm going back to my old linear shaver.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly find it pretty good, and I have a similar price point Braun, yet I find this to be a more comfortable effective shave. I don't find the blades that slow really so unless you have something wrong with it, perhaps you should return it

    They should have a readily accessible battery compartment like any other electric appliance out there..... but this way the manufacturer ensures that you have to take the shaver to an authorized service center to have the battery replaced. Clever move...but I´m sorry, Philips. I´m not going to swallow the bait. This thing belongs in the garbage can. As long as I have any other shaving options, I won´t ever buy electric shavers again.

    • @MrBazReviews

      I agree but it's common among many brands (sadly). I did do a teardown video it is possible to get to the cells (but it's a hassle and you have to de-solder them). I am hoping makers might consider easier battery replacement designs. There is legislation for phones coming in in Europe to make it compulsory to have easy access batteries (no tools needed), and it's long long overdue.

      @@MrBazReviews Yes, my series 3000 gave up the ghost in less than 3 years and I´m really disappointed. I owned several Philips shavers in the past and I must say that they were excellent products made in Holland that could easily last a decade if properly taken care of.....but today the company´s philosophy appears to be very different. It looks like they intend to force us to spend our precious money on a new shaver every two years and the rest of manufacturers seem to follow suit. The problem is that I ´m looking for basic shavers that no longer exist on the market....I don´t need to shave in the shower, I don´t need TFT screens, rechargeable batteries or other bells and whistles on a shaver. I just need a plug-in shaver that does the job well.... and I can´t find it.

      @@DuncanLafayette You could try some of these lesser known brands I saw a few around. Not sure if they are any good one company contacted me but I didn't think anyone would be interested in a video and honestly, you have to use these things for extended time to see how they hold up. The first one latch broke (the one in this video), and it was replaced under warranty (2 years)
