I do love York but you should definitely get in touch with Grays Court to complain - poor service should never be rewarded by being ignored. An apology is in order, it’s not even as though there are not many equally fine establishments in York. I can tell you, having been there before, that this place is absolutely nothing so extra special that it should treat customers like that - especially given that it clearly wasn’t just one member of staff having an off day. I’ll personally be avoiding it like the plague on any future visits after what happened to you, so I thank you for letting us know (and you can quote me on that when you contact them, if you so wish.)
The first time I stayed at the Savoy I thought the staff would treat me like that. I was so wrong. The staff were warm and welcoming. That is the sign of a really good hotel.
I agree about those not using headphones. My Dad loved playing his music loud in 70s, and we were thrilled when he got a stereo with headphones. It's in the 70s, I went to York and still looks amazing but £17 for a cheese and pickle sandwich I will live vicariously through both of you. Thank you for sharing this. 👍👵🇬🇧
Recently started watching your videos, I like the way you highlight the positive side of places you visit it's a refreshing change from the negativity others look for really enjoying your relaxed approach
Sorry you had that experience. In 2013 BBC4 did a documentary about the owners "Hotel Folly - Follie au Deux". The woman in particular does not come across as a nice person at all. She ran a long running war of attrition against the lovely, mostly volunteer, staff of the Treasurer s House, even down to deliberately blocking their cars in and a number of other 'tactics designed to annoy'. They are not posh, they just have delusions that they are better than they are. Please don't let some knobheads put you off coming back to York
Hi. Thank you so much for this. We will watch this. We genuinely thought it was just us, when we went to the hatch to ask for service they were rude so we just left. Such a beautiful location Have a great evening 👍👍👍
@Heather-jd1km She's a right piece of work. The hotel only got 1 star on "Scores on the Doors" last year, and she went bleating to the local paper about it. Probably she would have been better doing some staff training.
I’m originally from York but live in Rotherham now, really enjoyed the vid, thank you ☺️ Cannot wait for the day me and the hubby can get get a camper van and just go wherever we want to go, making memories and having adventures along the way!! Life is too short 😊 subscribed, looking forward to watching more of your content 😉 xx
Fair play, you’ve got much more patience than me, 10 mins of waiting and being ignored would have me standing up and shouting to the waiter “ EXCUSE ME, AS YOU OBVIOUSLY DON’T WANT MY CUSTOM AND HAVE IGNORED ME FOR THE PAST 10 MINS, I AM LEAVING” making sure everyone in the vicinity heard. Then I would follow up with an email to establishment management.
Don't be so ridiculous, just walk over and have a quiet word, sometimes staff just get it wrong without any intention to ignore customers and sitting there for so long getting all het up about it is just stupid.
We have been watching since you went to that site that cost 53 quid, yes 53 quid, I have to say I instantly liked you both, you are typical South Yorkshire and I like that, you both get along so well, no moaning, just two genuine funny caring people on a journey with two little dogs, love them too. Thanks a bunch and good luck to you both.
Not good to leave you sitting 30 minutes waiting to order. You guys are 'proper' so I won't be wasting my hard earned in that establishment. New to your channel but what a breath of fresh air you guys bring.
Very interesting video. I shall certainly be avoiding that hotel when I’m in York. Who do they think they are? They don’t look that special? I’ve travelled a lot, stayed in some dives as well as some of the best hotels in the world and have always been treated with respect. That kind of “up their own backside” behaviour makes me mad!
I would never queue for Betty's. But for tourists it's ok. The staff watch over you to rush you along to get the next person in the queue in. Always go to The Ivy. We go for every occasion. They're always polite and the food is amazing. And you are NEVER rushed.
I always go to Betty's in York although since covid the menu is much shorter. They used to do a pear and parsnip soup - wonderful. But all these tourists having 'afternoon tea' in the morning are a real nuisance especially when they are getting the waitresses to take lots and lots of photos of them eating a macaron. Much better to ask for a seat downstairs.
Ah! Good old York. York is a very special place for me as I went to university there. Love visiting whenever I can, as there is so much to see and do. For anyone interested in trains I would recommend the National Railway Museum, next to the railway station, but there is something for everyone in York. I can't wait to visit again. Thanks for posting this lovely video.
I haven't seen the "posh place" incident yet; I'm only eight minutes into the video. But what an amazing place this city is. So beautiful, everywhere. I'm just glued to this. I'm regretting now, that I didn't take more trips to other parts of England in my youth. At 80, we're not going anywhere. I left England on a boat when I was going on 11. The costs of travel were huge in those days. Once you left you didn't go back. I went back once in 1976 just so my Mum could have a last look. My son must go. I'll tell him. He had an English accent when he was little and he'd never seen England in his life. He loved the Queen and he particularly likes King Charles. Wonderful place, you're visiting. My Dad was from Yorkshire so I wonder if I'm being drawn in, genetically? You never know.
Hi. Thank you so much for watching 👍 England is beautiful with lots of cracking little places to discover. Where do you live now? 🗺️ We hope your Son visits!
@@Stchristopherofatlantis I'm on the West Coast of Canada. Right on the Pacific Ocean. The U.S.A. is 9 miles away from here. We left central Ontario in 1967 so now we are a continent away from York. That was the best British city I've ever seen on TH-cam. What a place! Beautiful.
Being a Yorkshireman, I love York - thanks for this. Nice to see the demographics are still mainly English. I wonder how long that will last? Your wife is beautiful and enthusiastic - you're both a pleasure to watch! Sorry you got treated badly - no reason for that, at all.
I live in York and love going into the centre. You did a great job of showing some high lights. It can get extremely busy in the summer, Christmas markets very busy also. Yes the campsite in the centre and it’s always booked months in advance.
I’d have gone to him and explained politely how long you’d being waiting and that others seemed to have being served before you even though they seemed to have arrived after you. They would have had to tell me to my face why they weren’t prepared to serve me and why! Then I’d have asked to see the manager.
We so enjoyed this video of your time in York. I was born and raised in York (1967). Caesers Restaurant used to belong to my mother's family, Bowman's Butchers. The abbetoir was behind the shop in Bedern (the snicket beside the shop in Goodramgate). My Grandad Bowman and his brothers ran the shop for many years before it was sadly sold. If you ask the current owners of the Restaurant, they know about the history of the butchers shop. My mum would help to run errands delivering meat during the war on her bicycle. One day she dropped a packet of highly prized sausages from her bicycle basket onto the road and a bus came along and ran over the sausages!! She was in bad books!! Fabulous videos and we really enjoy them all. Thanks for great content and sharing your experiences. Sarah and Win Rogers x

Love York and enjoyed your vid immensely. About 20 years ago, we inadvertently walked the whole length of the walls with a very distinctive Collie x Saluki dog before seeing the ‘no dogs’ sign when we came off. It was heaving up there and no one said anything, not even a tut or disapproving glance.
@@Stchristopherofatlantis His name was Benji. A very distinctive dog with black and white colouring and feathery plumes. You'd have been hard pushed to miss him on the very narrow wall. Thankfully he was very laid back so you could literally take him anywhere.

That was a real and revisited favourite amongst UK touring caravan sites with my ex-H and I- well over 30 years ago. I do agree about the lack of surrounding hills and woodland - but you are bang on the doorstep of York City and all its treasures. It's a trade-off - can't have both. If so, I'd be delighted to know. So nice to revisit a much loved site and city with you both. Thank you! x
We lived in York and loved it. It's a truly beautiful City. The history is wonderful. I loved to visit all these old Churches and sit in peace. Some have amazing medieval statues , candelabras and pews. Its a shame the more modern shops have been built around so many beautiful gems. Keep your eyes peeled for them, in small side streets. NO, Betty's is NOT "JUST A CUP OF TEA" Guy Fawkes WAS born in York, He was Christened in St Michaels Church, a beautiful Church right next to the Minster. He was imprisoned ,and hanged ,in York Prison ( which still exists within the Castle Museum and is well worth a visit.) The Jorvik Centre is a travel back ,through the rebuild of the ACTUAL Viking village, that was found during excavations under the Street. It's amazing with houses where they actually were excavated. Sights, sounds, smells bring the Vikings back to life. You need , at least, a good 3 days to do a visit to York justice . And you will miss out on most of the sights,:- The Minster, The walls, The Jorvik Viking Centre, The Railway museum , The Castle Museum, (which would take a day alone to visit) The Treasurers House, Fairfax House, Cliffords Tower, if you take dogs. There's not much point going, in fact !!

Yes agree regarding the motor home service point took us a while to sus it out, But we enjoyed York and the campsite It was really good seeing your experience and acknowledge O we been there ha. We were there late June this year.
I think it was the cellar of the Treasurer's House where years ago (the 1950s, I believe) , there was a famous haunting incident. Some young worker was in the cellar doing some job when he heard a trumpet blast. And then a Roman legion appeared marching out of one wall, across the cellar space, and disappeared into the opposite wall. The worker was totally petrified and cowered in a corner. He later described the legionaries as only visible from the knees upwards. In fact, the Treasurer's House stands on an old Roman road, which lies about a foot or 16 ins below the level of the cellar floor. The young worker was very strongly impressed by what he saw and gave very detailed descriptions of armour, costume, dress, weapons carried, etc. He knew nothing about Roman military history at all and was a plumber or electrician or something. When the expert historians heard his account, they dismissed it outright. They said it was rubbish, Roman legionaries never dressed like that. The young guy was making it up, etc. His story was largely forgotten and dismissed. Until a couple of decades later. Archaeologists elsewhere, (I don't know where exactly but it was England) made a discovery of well preserved LATE Roman military kit including shields and some armour, etc from the late 4th or early 5th century. And of course, it turned out that everything they thought they knew was wrong. By the late 4th and early 5th century AD, Roman Legions didn't look like what everybody associates with Roman legionary dress, Julius Caesar et al. In fact, they dressed and looked more like what people now associate with Norman style dress and armour from William the Conqueror's period. They went back to the description given by the young cellar worker in York Treasurer House, and his account was absolutely spot on. He described their dress to the last detail. He knew nothing about late Roman military armour, etc, and neither did the experts, as it happens, so he couldn't have read it in any book published at the time. This account was in a fascinating little booklet about the ghosts of York, I picked up when I visited years ago.
Always queues outside Bettys , both in York and Harrogate . Try Bettys in Harlow Carr Gardens just outside Harrogate , a little less busy . Loved seeing York again , My husband comes from there and I am a Leeds girl .
Well there are, as you say, plenty of places which are wise enough to welcome all orderly customers. There's always Bettys, b for the ultimate afternoon tea but also for a fun lunch or afternoon tea, take the river cruise. It comes complete with a very informative commentary, but does need to be booked ahead. They definitely make everyone feel very comfortable though.
Great video and very informative guys. Very irritated at the way you were treated at the Hotel. Seems they didn't want to walk all the way out to you. Least you highlighted it. Bet you were starving by the time you got to the Italian. You did well to resist all the 'temptations' . You could easily spend alotta cash on the goodies. Great to see York looking colourful and seemingly unspoiled. Hope it lasts.......

Loved your tour of York. We live in Harrogate which is about 20 miles from York. York is such a lovely city. Didn't know there was 365 pubs in York 😮. Keep up the good work guys.
We went to Betty’s in Harrogate, I bought a tea caddy which is great but thought the afternoon tea was grossly over rated for the price. We could have had a nicer one at a cheaper price in a smaller establishment.
They trade on their name now. Might have been easier to queue and buy two Fat Rascals and take them back with you for tea. Ask me how I know - from experience. x
Thanks again guys for another fabulous tour, another place that we've not been to but will now, as for the ignorant waitors obviously they don't recognise motorhome royalty lol. Looking forward to more travels with you.❤

It truly is a beautiful city, loved your tour you captured all the best bits cheers, how very rude of that hotel don't deserve punters. Keep em coming guys bet your little four legged friends sleep well, best wishes to you all.
Is it wrong that I want to pay that hotel a visit, park an American style RV on their lawn, let a St Bernards out to use the facilities, whilst playing Whitesnake "Still of the Night" at volume 11...would that get their attention? After all, it's not trespassing until they ask you to leave ?
Great video. We love that site . There's so much to do and see We're so looking forward to going again in a couple of weeks, and going in the Slip Inn which is the nearest pub to the site. I can highly recommend it. 😊😊
Given the title I found the hotel incident at about 20 minutes in. All I see is a garden with the tables spread too far apart but it doesn't exclude posh. As for a 30 minute wait that is unacceptable but the staff look as if they couldn't care less. However you have for legs and two mouths. One of you could have got up and said "Excuse Me". I remember many years ago in an old hotel in Bolton (not sure) we had afternoon tea then just sat there. No bill came, no one came near us so we left without paying.
Steve Mcqueen rode a Triumph TR6 Trophy motorcycle in the Great Escape and I believe he owned a few Triumphs but according to an article I read one of his favourite bikes was a Husqvana 400cc but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, Great vlogs by the way keep up the good work 😊 from a 71 year old biker (Royal Enfield 650) my bike 😊
There’s a really nice cycle ride from that site that takes you past all the planets but best of all, there’s a pub half way but it’s off the cycle path. Well worth doing Andy if you want the exercise 👍 Brilliant vlog, makes me want to return.
How dare they snub our favourite you tubers. We wont be going there in a hurry! The Bike was a Triumph. Steve didnt actially do the jump over the wall in the great escape . He wanted to but the producers of thd film wouldnt let him! So he asked his mate Bud Ekins to do it, so its Bud who actually does the jump. ( I have a Bud Ekins edition Triumph Bonneville) Keep safe👍

Hi Liam, what do you mean?
Hi. Thanks for watching 👍
It was such a shame as the sun was out and the location right on the walls was fabulous
@@Liam-tj1ic ???
@@Liam-tj1ic Just in terms of your English Liam it is not easy to understand what you mean. 'Criticism says on your reply' does not make sense.
I will not stay there either.
The first time I stayed at the Savoy I thought the staff would treat me like that. I was so wrong. The staff were warm and welcoming. That is the sign of a really good hotel.
Hi. Thanks so much for watching. Savoy sounds fab 👍
@@monty2005 Went to the American bar at the Savoy. Service was good and no complaints on our treatment
I was raised to treat everyone the same. In fact I was told if on the first date he treats waiting staff badly to ditch him!
Hi, this is the best way to be, we agree
I agree about those not using headphones. My Dad loved playing his music loud in 70s, and we were thrilled when he got a stereo with headphones. It's in the 70s, I went to York and still looks amazing but £17 for a cheese and pickle sandwich I will live vicariously through both of you. Thank you for sharing this. 👍👵🇬🇧
Hi 👋 your message made us smile
Thanks so much for watching 👍👍
Recently started watching your videos, I like the way you highlight the positive side of places you visit it's a refreshing change from the negativity others look for really enjoying your relaxed approach
There is beauty everywhere!!!
Thanks for watching
Such a beautiful location
Have a great evening 👍👍👍
@Heather-jd1km She's a right piece of work. The hotel only got 1 star on "Scores on the Doors" last year, and she went bleating to the local paper about it. Probably she would have been better doing some staff training.
I’m originally from York but live in Rotherham now, really enjoyed the vid, thank you ☺️ Cannot wait for the day me and the hubby can get get a camper van and just go wherever we want to go, making memories and having adventures along the way!! Life is too short 😊 subscribed, looking forward to watching more of your content 😉 xx
@joanna3526 thanks for subscribing! You don’t live too far from us then in Barnsley. We wish you happy travels
Was it because they had pups with them then or...?
Cannot believe nobody even came to clear the table , very bad service .
It wasn’t too busy either. Bit of a shame
You didn’t miss much. The food is awful we had smoked salmon, terrible.
Oh noooo!
It's not known for good food. You escaped lightly , to be honest. There are many, many better places to eat in York
@@Stchristopherofatlantis You were better off not being served. The food is expensive and rubbish. Many better places to eat
Hi. Thanks for watching 👍👍🤣
How very classy of you 🥺😏
Don't be so ridiculous, just walk over and have a quiet word, sometimes staff just get it wrong without any intention to ignore customers and sitting there for so long getting all het up about it is just stupid.

Not good to leave you sitting 30 minutes waiting to order. You guys are 'proper' so I won't be wasting my hard earned in that establishment.
New to your channel but what a breath of fresh air you guys bring.

No excuse for bad service, I would definitely make a complaint.
Hi 👋 thanks for watching
Very interesting video.
I shall certainly be avoiding that hotel when I’m in York. Who do they think they are? They don’t look that special?
I’ve travelled a lot, stayed in some dives as well as some of the best hotels in the world and have always been treated with respect.
That kind of “up their own backside” behaviour makes me mad!
Hi. Thanks for watching 👍 have a great evening
I would never queue for Betty's. But for tourists it's ok. The staff watch over you to rush you along to get the next person in the queue in. Always go to The Ivy. We go for every occasion. They're always polite and the food is amazing. And you are NEVER rushed.
This sounds fabulous. Thanks for this 👍
I always go to Betty's in York although since covid the menu is much shorter. They used to do a pear and parsnip soup - wonderful. But all these tourists having 'afternoon tea' in the morning are a real nuisance especially when they are getting the waitresses to take lots and lots of photos of them eating a macaron. Much better to ask for a seat downstairs.
Shouldn't laugh, but that is funny......although extremely annoying
York is beautiful and we lived our visit
We will return 👍👍
Thankyou for sharing your lovely backstreets tour of York. 😊😊
Thanks for watching
Hi. Thank you so much for watching 👍
England is beautiful with lots of cracking little places to discover.
Where do you live now? 🗺️
We hope your Son visits!

Hi, Thanks so much for watching
If it's any consolation, that hotel only scored 1 for hygiene and cleanliness last year. It was upgraded on appeal but still.....
Nooo way?!?! Really!! That’s terrible
It’s mainly a wedding venue, been a few times and not very memorable 😅
I’d have gone to him and explained politely how long you’d being waiting and that others seemed to have being served before you even though they seemed to have arrived after you. They would have had to tell me to my face why they weren’t prepared to serve me and why! Then I’d have asked to see the manager.
Hi 👋 thanks for watching 👍

Hey Andy and Clair! Just wanted to say your York vlog was absolutely brilliant! You two had me laughing out loud with your humor while also packing in so many cool facts. It was fantastic seeing all those amazing locations around the city-felt like I was exploring right alongside you. But that hotel garden scene? Oh my gosh, I was cringing and laughing at the same time! I can’t believe you were forgotten and then practically held hostage by the garden furniture! You turned a horrendous situation into comedy gold. Keep up the great work! 🍺🍺🦴🦴

Hello, thankyou for watching our video
Love York and enjoyed your vid immensely. About 20 years ago, we inadvertently walked the whole length of the walls with a very distinctive Collie x Saluki dog before seeing the ‘no dogs’ sign when we came off. It was heaving up there and no one said anything, not even a tut or disapproving glance.
Hi, This made us smile. What was your dogs name?
@@Stchristopherofatlantis His name was Benji. A very distinctive dog with black and white colouring and feathery plumes. You'd have been hard pushed to miss him on the very narrow wall. Thankfully he was very laid back so you could literally take him anywhere.

Also, those ceramic ghosts look super cool. The queue scared me off on my last visit to York, but will be back and brave the queue next time. Great content thanks 👻

Thank you! x
Hi. Thanks for watching. We agree think action is perfect for exploring 👍👍

It was really good seeing your experience and acknowledge O we been there ha. We were there late June this year.
Hi. Thanks for watching. We can’t wait to return 👍☀️
Hi. Thanks for sharing this story. I absolutely love it. History is fantastic and this was a joy to read ❤️❤️👍👍👍

Omg. I always wanted to go to that garden for lunch! Ive looked at it for over four decades but its put me off tbh.
😂😂😂
Given the title I found the hotel incident at about 20 minutes in. All I see is a garden with the tables spread too far apart but it doesn't exclude posh. As for a 30 minute wait that is unacceptable but the staff look as if they couldn't care less. However you have for legs and two mouths. One of you could have got up and said "Excuse Me". I remember many years ago in an old hotel in Bolton (not sure) we had afternoon tea then just sat there. No bill came, no one came near us so we left without paying.
