This is a very important comment about this "Size For Seventy" video. The important takeaway is NOT following the exact diet that Chris shopped for here. Instead, it's the basic idea about HOW to show for food strategically and smartly. Many will probably say that they will use this specific diet or wish that they could afford this specific diet in their region/country (or that $70 won't go far where they are). That's not the point. The point is, whatever your budget, taking into account your income and where you live, if you shop smartly, you can stretch your dollar. So take the core lessons presented here and create your own custom grocery plan. That's the main takeaway.
+UniversalUSA77 Go to Costco, you can get 20 lbs of frozen chicken breasts for $15....Let's say you ate 2 meals with 6oz of chicken breast a day...That will last you a MONTH of LEAN chicken breast for a month for frickin $15... Have one 6 oz beef meal a day? You can buy 2 2/12 lbs of LEAN Top Round steak for $18...That will last you the whole week! OR you can buy 5 lbs of ground beef 90/10 fat for $9 in place of the steak....That will last you 2 weeks for your BEEF MEALS! You can buy 10 lbs of oats for $7 which should last you 2-3 months....You can buy 10 lbs rice, that will also last you 3 months for $9.... You can buy a 60 PACK of eggs for $7....If you have a cup of egg whites a day (8 eggs) + 2 whole (10 eggs).....That will last you a week for $7.... You can buy 4 lbs of ground turkey for $15.....That will roughly last you 2 weeks for a turkey meal..... This covers all your meats, a lot of your carb meals, basically the CORE of your meals..... So if you do this the CHEAPEST way possible with the ground beef 90/10....This is a MONTHS WORTH of meals for $95!!! 95 / 4 is only $23.75 A WEEK!!! No excuses.... This is even 1/3 the cost of $70 a week....Come on, $23.75 a week? $3.39 a DAY to have TOP QUALITY protein sources and nutrient dense food??? NO EXCUSES HERE!!!
Kaylen Howard I agree 100%! This video and the Tuttle Diaries episode where he shows what he eats in a day... the one with the sidearm on the kitchen counter! Very informative and great reference for diet info.
Chris Mcdonald As a bodybuilder AND a practicing Registered Dietician, Chris takes his food and his nutrition very, very seriously. Great to see his emphasis on veggies too.
I've watched a lot of the size for 70 or big on a budget videos, this one has been the best. I like how he explains his thought process and tells you about the deals. The other guys are just like "packs of beef, oats, rice, eggs and Frank's...done"
Universal should just let this guy go round the store without a budget. His knowledge is amazing. just buy everything you need and let me know everything
+Lewis Hayward That's a different concept and one we've been thinking about for a while. This is where Tuttle spends 100, 200 or even more each week for his ideal diet.
Hey mate, watched a few in this huge/size on a budget series. Just wanted to say I enjoyed this one the most by far. I though you placed a higher emphasis on health than some of the others, which was cool. Alot of knowledge bombs too! Great stuff, love the channel
Thank you Chris Tuttle and Universal. Please keep making these videos!! I save every one and they really help with im just stuck with no more ideas for food. I use the meals and also cook them the same way to change it up from my meals, I just change the portions to make them fit my macros. Im always looking for new ways to do it so I dont get so bored. I have saved all the ones from Universal and Animal. I just wish the Animal ones were in color during the cooking. Looking forward to new cooking videos
I’ve watched a lot of these videos. This one was great. He speaks about the science and reason behind the foods, as well as some helpful hacks if you’re in a pinch. Excellent job!!!
+Bangadio In terms of academic background, for sure. He has a Masters degree in Nutrition and is a practicing healthcare professional. He knows what he's talking about, no "broscience."
It's awesome getting cooking tips from bodybuilders. Since they cook so much food they're bound to have great little tips on how to save time and energy.
Thank you for this, sometimes i am just lost with what i need to pack down for the right and adequate "building" nutrition. And to help with cost also is a plus, again thanks.
maybe the best video you put on your youtubechanel. i really like antoine, but this is pure information. and he buy veggies execept evan nobody does it before. like that
Love watching these videos. Marazzo's is my home grocery store. Let me know the next time you guys come through here I wanna come and get some dieting tips
Love this video. I am decreasing carbs, increasing fat and making fried rice or chicken hash. Enjoy it! You can make air fried potatoes as well with a bit of spray and seasoning. Flavor the veggies by cooking them with lean meat, or ham, or even smoked paprika.
Tom Smiff It's not about $70 or $100. Set a realistic budget for yourself. Use the strategies that Tuttle presents and make the most out of what you can afford.
Like the Animal videos, this is pretty useful. At first I thought it was wasteful to shop every week, then I realized how fast food goes bad past the first week. I also might add Sam's Club or Costco for chicken breasts. Since it's frozen, you can get a LOT for under $20. And if you have a local Aldi's, you can get food for super cheap there. Seeing the meals being made is great because almost every bodybuilding magazine/site shows very specific individual meals that cost just as much as the weekly ones. Thanks Universal!
I love universal, I love frank, chris, antoine, roman, more and more, I love your lifestyle, I love the friendly spirit you have. I live in a country (italy) that's its like impossible to have and to live it. I dream bigger, i dream usa, i dream to join universal team a day. I hope you will consider in the future to have an italian supporter, i can do all for my dream my friend. all the best and universal is numero uno.
This is by far the best video out of the size for seventy and big on a budget series I've seen so far. Too many of the videos the person didn't much if any research at all, and just went in and winged it which often lead to relatively bad meal options. Too often it was "muh protein, gotta get muh protein" and they go in and spend 80-90% of their budget on something like boneless skinless chicken breasts which left them with very little money so the rest of the diet ended up being bland and boring as fuck. For example - Antoine doing chicken and rice for LITERALLY every single meal. Are you serious? Antoine has a great personality but that video was absolutely terrible and reminded me of the old paradigm of the 90's (muh chicken and rice!). Chris did research before hand, set macronutrient goals for his meals, and spent time making comparisons and deciding how to stretch his money as best as possible while at the same time composing a balanced meal plan with good variety. He did not neglect his micronutrients which 90% of the other videos do, and showed even on a budget there is room to include foods high in them in while not compromising your major macronutrient goals within the given budget. He also gave great tidbits of nutritional information here and there, and actually talked about the macronutrient breakdowns of the meals, which not all the videos in this and Animal's series did. Good video.
This video was great! I definitely learned a couple tricks from Chris here about how to ballpark measure food when you don't have the necessary tools at your disposal to do so accurately. Thanks UniversalUSA77 for this video!
The concept is bodybuilding on a budget, so the food shopping portion is groceries for the week yes. At the end the specific meals Chris Tuttle weighs out and prepares would be consumed in one day.
+makis parameriths Animal, our brother brand, has done a ton of these types of videos, including Frank McGrath, like this one: th-cam.com/video/dOV9RZ5u_68/w-d-xo.html
Lol I'm dumb. I forgot it. Yeah I have seen them. Amm I'll grab the chance and I will ask u if the multivitamin animal pak is good enough and if it helps to build some extra muscle UniversalUSA77
Animal my diet plan is simply perfect and my training program as well. I'm just going for my second bulk up season and my diet had one multivitamin so I'm searching for it, in my first bulk up I Gained 35 kilos. So I want to add as much as possible muscle gains
Chris, please check time 1:47. Are you calling that a bread? Bread needs flours, water and salt. I am sorry but that what was in your hands was more like a food additive mix in a form bread... All the best :)
+liipasin89 I am very confused on what you are exactly asking. That is potato bread. It is made with flour. It says bread on the label, just calling it like it states. It may technically not be a "bread" but some viewers may not be as advanced as you are to understand that. Plus the point the video is to provide enough food for the bodybuilder or athlete on a budget.
+Chris Tuttle Well, to be honest, I wasn't asking anything. I was just, actually impolitely, questioning that do a bread need as much food additives as is in this bread on 1:47? It has 13 to 23 food additives, depending on how you count it. It sounds a lot for me. Ok, I understand that when someone is trying to stay in the budget it's almost impossible to get foods with small quantity of food additives. And in US it's harder than here in Finland I quess. But to be realistic it's same everywhere. I mean food additives everywhere. Well, you may ask like myself that do these additives harm us or not? Though there is many research made which prove that e.g. aspartame in small doses should be safe we can't be sure of coctail effects of thousands food additives. And we will ever be. So, personally I am not taking risks. I avoid all food additives I can. My biggest lose might be money lost but my health appreciates it. Chris, I know you know a lot about this subject so could you do a video sometime? I would appreciate it. In the end, I just want to everyone to be health and not be cheated by food industry. Thank you for you videos and I hope success for you in your future challenges.
+liipasin89 On a budget you make do with what you can. It's never going to be perfect. When your budget is unlimited, you can obviously make different choices. Unfortunately, few of us are in a position to buy whatever we want without looking at prices.
+liipasin89 Oh gotcha! I understand! Oh ideally you should reduce or eliminate food additives as much as possible. I use Ezekiel bread or just plan steel cut oats mainly. Unfortunately there is a lack of solid evidence to suggest that these food additives are either safe or unsafe at this point. it is really a gamble. Some are more riskier than others of course. For example, the FDA's GRAS list (Generally recognized as safe) such as aspartame if consumed under a certain amount per day. Again, we take everything with a grain of salt. We do the best we can at avoiding or minimizing the dangers. However, the biggest dangers that we have no control over and that everyone over looks is air pollution. There are tons of metals and chemicals in our air. Especially if you live near a populated area or city. Again you are rate minimizing foods with such food additives is a good idea. Most people do not care and are looking for affordability, taste, and hopefully nutrient content. Thank you.
+Vinícius Rodrigues They are "brother" brands. Both are owned by Universal Nutrition, a supplement manufacturer in New Brunswick, NJ. Universal has been around since 1977 and Animal since 1983.
What's up with the diabetes comment? Does he have diabetes, or is the insulin usage in weightlifting the cause for the change in the way he calculates his carb macros?

Yeah, just seeing him buy his ideal shop and seeing what he gets and why rather than what the general lifter should get would very interesting.
+Lewis Hayward I am in!!!!!!!!!
Chris seems like a smart guy. Always concerned about his health. Would like to hear him talk about gear use and how to do it safe as possible
Loved the video!
Just like any other Universal & Animal video, before it even starts I know I'm going to enjoy it.

Watching this in 2024...
Yeah, that $70 isn't going to work. 😖
This video should be added to the secondary school curriculum. "Eating healthy is so expensive" great video.
This has been a very informative video and I think you should do it more often with this guy: Chris Tuttle. We need more smart bodybuilders like him.
Love all his videos, he explains and educates his choices along the way...
Wow great video! Chris is very knowledgeable and video is informative.
Tuttle knows his shit. That's a ton of quality food for $70. Impressive as always.
Perfect time to watch this video since Valentine's Day is just around the corner lol. This made everything a lot simpler, awesome video!🗿
thanks for this video. chris seems to be the most knowledgeable athlete you've had on this shopping on a budget video series. very helpful.
+Bangadio In terms of academic background, for sure. He has a Masters degree in Nutrition and is a practicing healthcare professional. He knows what he's talking about, no "broscience."
As a 250lbs guy on a keto diet, this is painful to watch. Can't wait for bulk season, good video, basic stuff gets it done.
It's awesome getting cooking tips from bodybuilders. Since they cook so much food they're bound to have great little tips on how to save time and energy.
More of these videos! I absolutely love to watch these videos, and the athletes definetly know their stuff, more, MORE! :)
Really great info from Chris here. He is very smart and has a great, easy to understand presentation style.
This is the best SF70 universal has posted. In terms of actual nutrition advice.
Good variety, very informative, great video!
He knows his science, i must say, good job man!
AndreasM01 He should. He has a Masters Degree in Nutrition and is a practicing healthcare professional. No "broscience" with Tuttle.
Thank you for this, sometimes i am just lost with what i need to pack down for the right and adequate "building" nutrition. And to help with cost also is a plus, again thanks.
That natural peanut butter tip is NEXT LEVEL

Great video. Universal and Animal athletes are very helpful.
I've been adding natural peanut butter to my oats for quite some time. It's nice to see someone else doing the same!
Love this video. I am decreasing carbs, increasing fat and making fried rice or chicken hash. Enjoy it!
You can make air fried potatoes as well with a bit of spray and seasoning. Flavor the veggies by cooking them with lean meat, or ham, or even smoked paprika.
Nice video, this dude is funny and educational.
In Australia that amount of food will cost min
100 bucks. Good detailed video though
Tom Smiff It's not about $70 or $100. Set a realistic budget for yourself. Use the strategies that Tuttle presents and make the most out of what you can afford.
Now that... thats some gainz! Great video for someone on a budget!
Chris Tuttle is a legend

this is very interesting
Would like to see the powerlifter version of this series..
Oreos
What are the macros?
I would like to hear Chris's thoughts on GMO food.
This video was great! I definitely learned a couple tricks from Chris here about how to ballpark measure food when you don't have the necessary tools at your disposal to do so accurately. Thanks UniversalUSA77 for this video!
Is this diet for BULKING or SHREDDING??? Do you have meal plan for 1800 Cal with 200GMs of Protein per day for SHREDDING!!
So probably a dumb question. but are all these meals consumed in one day or is it one meal per day for 7 days?
The concept is bodybuilding on a budget, so the food shopping portion is groceries for the week yes. At the end the specific meals Chris Tuttle weighs out and prepares would be consumed in one day.
Wow Chris great shit will be picking your brain 💪💪💪⚒💪 knowledge priceless 😎😎😎🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
7:25 i was so afraid that he dropped the olive oil 3 times

OK, so if you’re not supposed to thaw the chicken out overnight, what ARE you supposed to do, how are you supposed to thaw it out to cook?
You can run hot water over the pack of chicken and leave it sitting in the sink for a few hours. If you have more time, let it thaw out in the fridge.
we want with frank McGrath too. excellent video though

UniversalUSA77 Please do an Australian version..
Everything is so damn expensive here.
Damon Gorrie The shopping concepts and strategies are the same here and in Australia. If food costs more, obviously you have to set the budget higher.
Damon Gorrie Bought a week's worth of groceries here in Melbourne for almost $50. It's possible, just depends on the area.
*****, cheapest ive done is $130 in sydney.
That was keeping it basic and boring.
Damon Gorrie Oh dear I feel for you mate
Aren't you supposed to measure chicken raw?
it doesn't matter, just search for raw chicken nutrition if you weigh it raw
