      You guys really need to listen to Pneuma and 7empest from the new album. Lol your reaction on Maynard's appearance. He liked to put on a great visual performance each show he does. Now he is silhouetted in the foreground. Letting the music take center stage. In his other 2 bands A Perfect Circle & Puscifer he takes center stage. I think his choice in Tool was personal on his performance. His voice resonates like another instrument.

    Haha. "He's playing a special ed character." Oh, man. Maynard is definitely not playing a "special ed" anything. The song was about a friend of the band who felt that he was only creative when he was high and/or drunk and how destructive he was to himself and everyone around him. If you watch the official video you'll notice a striking similarity between the lead "character" and how Maynard is performing. Good reaction, though. Cheers.

    TOOL - Schism, Lateralus, The Grudge, The Pot, Vicarious, .... pick any song, they are all great! TOOL is one of, if not the best Rock Bands out there these days. TOOL is more Prog Rock or something between Prog Rock and Metal. Some will say, that there is no Genre for TOOL. When you love music, you will love TOOL. Let me say this, I love music and they have totally changed the way I listened to music before them. They ruined about 90% of other Rock Music for me, but opend the door to listen to bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. You guys rock! Greets from Germany!

    The song's about the suffering of addiction and Tool's first album UNDERTOW is about addiction in all it's forms. Maynard's definitely doing "vulnerable" here....That's at least my interpretation. The other explanation is that early 90s Maynard was strung the fuck out of his head, hahah. Watch the early music videos...incredible animations that were surprise hits on MTV back in the days

    He played the part of the person the song is about: a friend who thinks they cant create good art while sober.
    He took his friend's idea of what its like to be sober and embodied it in his own posture. A singer's posture is crucial to their vocals, but Maynard showed that art is stronger. Thats his message to his friend. You can do it.

    I'm sure it's been commented before, but Maynard doesn't exactly like being front and center. In this performance he's laser focused and just in the zone. He's not really playing a gimmick or anything, just in like a trance - kind of letting the music just flow. This is obviously a big part of tools thing, and mostly you'll find maynard in the background of the stage and not in the front.

  • @jeffmatthews6672
    @jeffmatthews6672 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Maynard ran cross country in high school, was in the military and practices martial arts, which helps him be able to sing like he does. They came out with a new album late last year ( the 1st in 13 yrs), called Fear Inoculum, the whole album is amazing. Check out the song Pneuma I think it will blow you away. The engineering and mixing is otherworldly and really need to be listened to with headphones. The song is unconventionally long but you will be disappointed that it isn't longer. The guitar player is Adam Jones, on bass at this time was Paul D'Amour who was later replaced by Justin Chancellor and on the drums the incomparable Danny Carrey. Most of their songs are technical marvels. Be back for more.🤘

    Awww dang. Not me falling in love with baby Smokey, misguided as he may have been about the genius of Tool. Every aspect of Tool. Thank god you guys learned. Because my social anxiety and autism want to be angry at you. But I can't argue with how open minded and fun fact filled this channel is.

    Cool vid guys! Someone has probably already commented this, but Maynard is also lead singer of 'A Perfect Circle' and 'Puscifer'. Some different directions in his artistic approach, but all great music that makes you think.

    Maynard dresses up a lot when doing live performances, especially in early-day Tool and his "solo" band Puscifer.

      Tell me more about this band where are they from and what's their music like by the way we are about to record a new reaction to a new tool song any recommendations on a song we should react to

    • @nilsbossiusklintenberg3623
      @nilsbossiusklintenberg3623 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trash Talkers ooh wonderful to hear! 🙏 Like people have suggested I think ”the Pot” would be a good next song, it is one of their catchiest songs. Make sure to just react to the audio though - there’s a fan made music video with a lot of views that often confuses the reactors. :)
      Heilung is a band with members from Norway, Germany and Denmark. They play a sort of spiritual ”viking/pagan” folk music which has become a pretty big genre now thanks to the norwegian band Wardruna. Magical, primal and powerful. :)

      @@nilsbossiusklintenberg3623 we are thinking about reacting to the live version of the song pot like we did for the live version of sober, what are your thoughts.

    The crowd was looking like that because this was the early days of Tool and for many, their first time experiencing and hearing a new band, Tool live, and with the offsetting wrenching sound, with Maynard's singing and performance, the crowd was in shock, and were like, "what the... ? Who the hell is this?".

  • @zigszags3656

    Guys, the song is called "Sober." Maynard is wearing a onesie. He's acting like a strung-out junkie. Hence the cramped stance, the shakes, and near the end, he scratches the itch from withdrawal.
