I was born on June 27, 1953 at 5:53 AM. I was 21 1/2 inches long and weighed almost 7 pounds. I am 71 years old now sitting here watching TH-cam. Talk about the events on my birthdate thanks for the videos. I love them, there’s nothing like looking at nostalgic history👍👍❤️😁
@steve1750 my first grade class of about 25 classmates had 5 kids named Steven or Stephen in it. In 1953 Steven was a very popular name to give a boy, indeed!
I was 5. Sadly, it was a rough year for me. My mother decided to wake me up Christmas morning and tell me Santa was really her and daddy. It was a sad day as I recall. I kept my children believing until they were in middle school. Growing up in the ‘50’s was good though. It was a kinder, gentler time. I miss it.
I met my husband that year, graduated from high school, Korean War ended, my husband returned to the USA (he was in the Navy) we got married in November (71 years on November 8 this year) Great year for us!
I was born on July 1 1953 the first 20 years of my life was probably some of the best times I'm not complaining about the other years but those were the best
I was born 1953 May 26th Elizabeth Hospital in Kentucky St Elizabeth but I grew up in Reading Ohio. And being a kid with the best years of the word any cars or lots of woods you can play with gunpowder and build fires and it was great turn 16 to 1969 you know where the driver's license in your car you were getting around the places that are now changed forever and unrecognizable. Yeah the years after 1953 were the best
I'll always remember 1953. We had just gotten our " new " black and white tv, my dad just had an oil burner installed in our basement, " No more watching Dad chopping kindling wood and shoveling coal ." ), and my Grandparents that lived in a rural area, finally were able to get electricity. Remember I love Lucy, My Friend Irma, Mama and Red Skelton? Amos and Andy even had a short stint on tv but they were more successful on radio. ( Today they would be banned from the air.) I can remember as a 2 or 3 year old watching my Father sitting next to the old floor model radio, listening to " The Lone Ranger ", before we got the tv.
💕💕💕💕79 here but remember so well this year..Hank Williams passed..Elizabeth crowned Queen..Lost my Dad in 54 he was 30…we never forget 😢thank you for memories from long ago
l was born in 1943 and thank you Morrie Reece for tanking me down memory lane.....You are fine singer......Blessing my friend for you and yours... Shoe🇺🇸
Oh my goodness! Thank you so very much. I was born in 1953 and didn't know I was so old until I watched this. You are precious and so is Lulu. You are also extremely talented. A very smooth vocalist. I'm an organist and noticed you execute very good finger substitutions on the keyboard. I was born and raised in St. Louis and am still here. I went to Washington University and played for a party in Vincent Price's home. You'd remember the Fox Theatre where I just retired after 40 years as house organist replacing the legendary Stan Kann. Again, thank you for bringing a little joy into my day!
Wow, this is one of the best videos I've seen. What a joy it is to see this tribute to the year 1953, which happens to be my birth year. Seeing this today was made even more special since today happens to be my birthday. Interesting that you mentioned the computer programming course. My first computer course was also in FORTRAN, and we created our key punch cards. Also interesting that you mentioned From Here To Eternity. The book, of course, was written by author James Jones, and his boyhood home was right down the street from where I grew up in the town of Robinson, IL. I loved the performance of your three songs, and you have a cute little dog, and beautiful pictures of you and your wife. Again, this was a very special video for me.
Thanks so much for the memories I haven’t heard those songs since I was 21 years old I do thank you - you give a lot of pleasure with your songs and your smiles !!
In 1953 Ford made a special golden anniversary tractor called the Ford Golden Jubilee. It commemorated fifty years of manufacturing tractors. It was the first tractor I ever operated and I have owned one for around forty years. I enjoyed your video and plan to share it on the Ford Jubilee Group. I also shared with my sister who was born in 1953.
Born in England. I was 5 years old in 1953. My first day at school. Street parties celebrating the coronation of Elizabeth ll. I remember the songs that you sang so well. Although born into a working class family I spoke with a BBC accent because the radio was on all the time. I lost that by the time I finished my teens.
GREAT VIDEO MORRIE! i WAS BORN IN THE SUMMER OF 1940, SO I REMEMBER 1953 VERY WELL INDEED. YOU BROUGHT BACK SOME HAPPY MEMORIES FOR ME. IT WAS 1953 WHEN WE GOT OUR FIRST TV SET, AND I STILL HAVE IT SITTING IN ONE OF MY CLOSETS AS A FONDLY-REMEMBERED SOUVENIR OF THE PAST, EVEN THOUGH IT STOPPED WORKING AT LEAST FOUR OR FIVE DECADES AGO. AT MY GRADE SCHOOL GRADUATION IN EARLY JUNE OF 1954, THE GRADUATING CLASS STOOD ON STAGE AND SANG "HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW?" AS PART OF THE GRADUATION CEREMONY. YOU SING VERY WELL MORRIE! CONTINUED GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS TO YOU AND YOUR WIFE!
This video popped up in my recommended. So glad I watched it! I was born at the end of 1945, so I remember many of the things he talks about. I remember all of the songs. Thanks for a wonderful walk down memory lane!
Great video and great memories. I was born in 1953 and I remember much of what you mentioned. I liked that guitar effect on your keyboard. I'm an accordionist from that era... Thanks! Great show and cute dog, too. God bless.
Wonderful memories Morrie. I immigrated to Seattle from Mexico at 4 years old in 52. How much is that doggie was my favorite song! Even tho I didn't speak English at the time. Songs hung around a little longer back then. So it was still being played at Christmas time for years. Another song that may have been 53 or 54 was Mr. Sandman!!! The Cordettes!
I have been fortunate in my life. I lost my wife Debbie to cancer when I was 63 years old, and found love again when I was 65. I went to my doctor last week and told him I just didn't enjoy sex as often as I use to when I was younger. He asked me when I first noticed this and I said.."well...twice last night... and again this morning" . 😎
This is the year I was born, so when I saw it come up in the TH-cam charts, I had to watch it. I must say, I am very impressed with your production, not to mention the songs and singing were spectacular. GOD Bless 🙂
I was in Kindergarten in ‘53. You’ve completely lifted my spirits! Who knew about WD40?!? … and you’ve done a very heartfelt and moving rendition of Les and Mary’s timeless masterpiece! Thank you so much!
In 1953 I was in the marines getting ready to go to Korea. I left west Virginia on the 19 of July went to California got there by train on the 24th turned 19 the 25th. And the Korea War ended on the 27th of July so the 3rd marine division stopped in Japan and .I turned 20 years old there and then come back to the states this took me back down memory lane I turned 90 years young this past July I'm now in the Philippines for the last 18 months got married at 89 years old for the second time love the video
Was born 1950..lived in upper states Indiana, close to Chicago. Dick Beondi with WLS. We had two TV stations, channel seven and nine...no remotes, no Color TV. Flash Gorgon on Saturday mornings, and Mighty Mouse. Moved to Atlanta at age twelve..still fond memories of all the snow. There was no mention of Lake Effect Snow then. We had Lincoln Logs and Erector Set with Mister Potato Head. Had socks we use to use to take our marbles to school. Our Father had a 1950 Ford, Red and White. Also talks about building Bomb Shelters. We also had one of the first Mcdonalds. Cokes were a Nichol. Good days with Armchair Playhouse, sitting in the living room with Family. Remember around 53 the building of Disneyland. The Micky Mouse Club with Anette Funichello...
Hello Morrie. I started with 1952 and 1953. Both are fantastic, some things in 1952 i knew already. However, 1953 was entirely news to me. Like some of the other comments i was a Fortran user in the 1970s. It's a good tool and making a come back. It's on the top ten languages now. Your 1953 is a real gem, many things my kids have asked me were in your video. Please keep more years coming, and i will continue watching them all. Your singing is a real treat, very enjoyable. Thanks!!
My neighbors had a TV. I got to watch the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. I was 6 years old. Kids show on the radio at Christmas "The Cinnamon Bear". I got to see Guy Mitchell when I was a kid.
Well I was a 49 niner, but remember 1953 as a 3 year old. We had our first tv and it always needed tubes replaced in it. The screen was snowy too, but we still enjoyed it. Life was nice then. You have a great voice Morrie. I remember singing the doggie song and when Elvis came out later, my friend and I would sing “You ain’t nothing but a hound dog” song as we played.
Really enjoyed your video. Commenting from Buffalo NY.....grew up on Long Island and was 9 years old in 1953.....just like you. I admire the good work you did on this video.
I was 12, and watched the coronation on my uncle's 9-in set in Sheffield. It rained that day, and we had a big celebration the week after in our park. I also recall Hilary and Tensing climbing Everest; we got a day off at Penistone Grammar school in celebration.
I was much too young in 1953 to recall anything at all. But, the year 1953 is and will always be significant to me for many reasons. For starters, my very favorite movie star, Lisa Gaye joined Universal International in January 1953. She was billed as Leslie Gaye at the time and, during the process of her grooming at Universal, the studio changed her name to Lisa. Yes, in later years, we kids loved 'House of Wax' that drove shivers down our back. Vincent Price with his perfect accent was unforgettable with his burnt face from wax; he was ably supported by Phyllis Kirk and Carolyn Jones. The film was a huge hit internationally. In 1953, judging from the piles of movie magazines we had at home, Marilyn Monroe never looked more gorgeous. She was at her peak with such films as Don't bother to knock, Niagara and Gentlemen prefer blondes. You were spot on when listing those wonderful singers who gave listeners many hours of pleasure with their songs: I'm walking behind you [Eddie Fisher]; Vaya Con Dios, etc. Frankie Laine was great all through the 50's and even the 60's; Perry Como was another top fave; Patti Page was unforgettable with her rendition of 'Old Cape Cord'; Guy Mitchell brought the roof down with his chart-busters. Yes, as you may have judged, I loved the 50's more than anything else in this world. I do wish time could have stood still and we were still in the glorious 50's for more than one reason.
I was born in 1941 about 10 months before Pearl Harbor. This brought back memories. It also reminded me why my generation so quickly embraced rock and roll.
I was 10 in Iowa . Remember we got our first TV. I watched Ikes first inauguration the day after and convinced my parents to let me stay home and watch. Been a history buff ever since. Watched Queen Elizabeth coronation. Fascinating to a young girl.
What a strange coincidence! I just happened to click on this video and see "I was nine years old in 1953." I was too in 1953, but I was in Singapore at that time. I was born in 1944, the war year. Thanks for letting me hop on your carriage down memory lane.
I was five years old in 1953 but have clear memories of Hank Williams Sr passing away. We lived in Montgomery, Alabama. Because my aunt was good friends of Hank and his motherI went to both the visitation at his mother’s and the funeral at Montgomery’s City Hall.
There was the Korean War, polio, England regained the Ashes Mt Everest was conquered, Stan Matthews won his cup final medal, Gordon Richards won his first Derby, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned, Stalin died, and rationing was still the vogue.
I just stumbled upon your channel! This is fascinating to me! My great grandparents were 29, in 1953( World War two, ) still with me today! They were 99 in the summer. My grandparents were 5, they are 76, Vietnam 66-68, my parents weren't born until 1972 , my dad was in Desert Storm, my triplet sisters were born 1996, and I was born 1998 and was in Afghanistan! All of us were Army and honorably discharged! I achieved the rank of Captain! 2018-2020! God bless you, sir, and everyone here 🙏! I will subscribe after I complete the Gettysburg Address! 🤣🤣, Joey in Cleveland
Nice video. Engineering excitement might have been for the Corvette. But it was a fiberglass car with a very old fashioned in-line six-cylinder engine. But more interesting probably was the new Buick V-8. Also of interest could be that Harry Morgan was in a TV show called Pete and Gladys before he was in MASH.
I became a teenager in 1953! It was like the USA was just created - unbeknownst to us at the time. Pin ball machines, MM, BB, Rock-n- Roll, R&B, Black Girl Groups and Guys, new top ten hits every week, Schwinn bikes, 10-speed bikes, pegged blue denims, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc. Like WoW!!
I graduated high school in May 1953 and expected to be called for training and service in Korea, but thankfully the war would end soon. Thanks for the memories.
53 was the year I was born. I miss the 50s and 60s
Barely remember the 50s, the 60s were great but the 70s is when I caught my stride!
Wonderful you made my day I’m 86 years old still singing dancing and playing tennis thank the good LORD
Playing tennis at 86? WOW!!! I envy you, lady...

In 1953 I was 10 years old. The 50s was the best decade our country ever had!
I was 10. Still recall many highlights.
I was 8. What a blessing to be a Brooklyn boy in 53.
My dad made under the average income. 1st house they bought was $10,000, 2 bedroom red-shingled house on a dirt side street just outside of town.
Good to know what was happening the year i was born.

Brings back good memories.🌺

Carl,
Aruba, Nov 2, 2024.
There was the Korean War, polio, England regained the Ashes Mt Everest was conquered, Stan Matthews won his cup final medal, Gordon Richards won his first Derby, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned, Stalin died, and rationing was still the vogue.
I was born on Nov. 05, 1942.
So happy 82nd birthday ol' man. 🥳🤓
Just want to interject that Harry Morgan was a neighbor on December Bride.
I finally find someone else who remembers December Bride! Thank you!
Lovely, thank you
I was born that year. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed your singing!
Me too. Just turned 71 November 5.
@@doracook6989 I get that pleasure tomorrow
I became a teenager in 1953! It was like the USA was just created - unbeknownst to us at the time. Pin ball machines, MM, BB, Rock-n- Roll, R&B, Black Girl Groups and Guys, new top ten hits every week, Schwinn bikes, 10-speed bikes, pegged blue denims, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc. Like WoW!!
THANK you 🙏 God bless 😊
I graduated high school in May 1953 and expected to be called for training and service in Korea, but thankfully the war would end soon. Thanks for the memories.
I remember that Jack Webb's partner in Dragnet was called Frank.
Harry Morgan, an established character actor, joined Jack Web later.
Frank Smith.
Correct. Harry Morgan was only in the 1960s version of Dragnet.
