    This printer, like the regular Selphy, uses dye sublimation technology. The cartridge contains a dye ribbon that lays down cyan, magenta, yellow, and glosscoat one at a time. This kind of printing gives you super sharp, color-rich prints that are less likely to smear or fade than Zink technology. It's the closest you can get to professional offset printing, like what is used for books. What I found interesting is that it does not include a separate black like most color printers and instead uses what is called "process black" - it combines the other 3 colors to get the darkest tones. Process black is considered more natural-looking than plain black.

I have been looking for a little portable printer for the family for a while now and I really wasn't sure what was out there until I came across the Canon Live chat online and they introduced me to this little printer and that's how I found your video! amazing little thing, I think im going to have to pick one up!

    Great review. I’ve had the Ivy for close to a year and I like that it prints fast , also love the size but the print quality is not the best. I feel the photos come out darker even if I adjust to brighter contrast. Based on this review, I would like to try out the other printer but I’m not too fond of the size. Good to know you can trim off the extra white.

    Hi, great video! So informative! Just to confirm, the wifi connectivity doesn’t need to connect to a wifi network outside. It just need to connect directly to the phone’s wifi network, is it right? I would like to ask because i don’t have wifi router at home and just uses my phone’s personal hotspot.

    Thank you so much for the review. It has been super useful. Especially the a quality comparison. I know the video is over a year old but wondered if you could tell me about the connectivity: Wifi --> Does it connect via Wif-Direct (so it is like the printer is behaving like wifi network you join to print) or does it actually require a home Wifi network for the printer and the phone to connect/print?
    Thank you!

    • @amygretchenstudio

      Funny I was just wondering this myself as I mostly just used it at home and want to take it on vacation this week. When you go to print it has you connect to the printer as if it's the wifi so I don't think you need to be connected, but I am going to test it out and I'll come back here and let you know.

    • @amygretchenstudio
      @amygretchenstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      What you have to realize is the photos are not going to be the same as printing with good paper and ink. It's a great alternative though. I think the seply prints better and has better colors but the photos are often soft and that bugged me so I've gone back to using my canon ivy more.

    • @wendyengland2530
      @wendyengland2530 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shelbyandstuff123 The Polaroid Zip is not necessarily a printer you want if you are looking for quality photos. I've not been super happy with it as far as that goes. The pictures are always too dark and when I try to lighten them, they tend to just look washed out. I use it mostly for convenience sake (easy to throw in a bag and take on a trip). The pictures are also sticky backed so it's nice for when maybe I don't have a pair of scissors on hand to cut apart a photo. The Selphy definitely has better quality photos. They are nice and clear. Some people take that on trips as well, which I could do, but it's a little big for that in for my purposes. Also, the Selphy app has more opportunities to edit the photo than the Polaroid Zip. The bummer thing about the Canon Selphy is that they aren't true 4x6 photos. They are close, but it's always a bummer if I'm using a photo in a pocket page. I generally end up having to mat the photo for it to look nice in the pockets. Perhaps the newer models are better in this respect. I hope that helps.
