  • Hi,
In this video, I will let you know the process i followed to apply for OCI.
Initially , I felt the process was bit complicated, though it's quite straightforward and easy (To be honest anything you do for the first time
    looks complicated)
I have created this video , so that you get a step by step idea on how to apply for OCI .Again, i would like to reemphasize that it's basically my experience and things may change when you apply. So always follow official VFS website. This video is intended to give you hints.
As part of OCI application, you are supposed to upload a photo and signature. I have created a separate video on how to do that. Checkout my video
Please note that I don't work for VFS etc and the information provided in the video is a general guide only for illustrative purposes.

Hello sir. I want to ask you something. When u applied OCI DOCUMENTS and upload indian passport did u print front( photo page )and last page (father n mother name page) printed in 1 page) to upload ? As it's allowing only 1 page per document or only front page that is photo and your name page is enough?
As I will send physical documents as well.
    Thanks

Thanks for the video, quick question regarding my situation. I am applying from Brisbane for OCI. I only have certified copies of my parent's Indian passport. I can apply online with this as it only online submission. The website says bring originals of supported document to VFS. During physical VFS appointment, will I be required to bring along original of my parent's Indian passport or will the certified copies be sufficient? My parent's original passports are obviously not with me in Australia and my parents need their passports for their purposes and my parents are not with me in Australia. Did you have to bring along originals of submitted documents with you to VFS here in Australia and did anyone check them? Thanks.

    Hi Thanks for the video
I have a couple of queries.
    1. Do i need a thumb impressions or no signature for my 3 n half year old. I have seen in many documents that for minor under 5 you need thumb impression so I am but confused. Is the rule changed at this point of time?
    2. For the documents i need to upload for my child many of them says self attested in the check list what to be done with this. Can I sign behalf of my child or is it better to get all the docs JP signed?
Can you please help me on this?
    Thanks in advance

Hi Sneha, see my comments below. These comments are based on my experience and remember i am one like you and don't work at VFS etc :-)
      1) I did last year and I think rule must be pretty much same now as well. I did a 'no signature' at every place in the application where applicant's (in this case minor) signature was required. This is for OCI application. And the application was approved.
When it comes to Indian passport cancellation/renunciation of Indian Citizenship of minor, it is only then it has to match what's there in Indian passport . My kid had a left hand thumb impression on the passport so the Indian passport cancellation application also had to have left hand thumb impression .
In short, to answer your question, I reckon if you are just applying OCI "no signature" will do according to me
      2) I remember i followed the checklist and signed where parents signature was required. I got the documents like date of birth etc signed by JP . Sometimes if JP is not available you may be able to get it signed at the police station/Pharmacy etc too but before that check with VFS once
Hope this answers your question. Let me know how you go :-)

Thanks a lot for your reply. This video helped me a lot. I completed the online application part and I am going to submit it via post as I am not going to get in person appointment any time sooner in victoria.
Is there anything I have to keep in mind other than this of applying via post ?
Also I have one more query. In the checklist it is mentioned one of the parent can sign on the application form if the applicant is minor but in ur video it says no signature on application form in case of minor. I am bit confused on this. can u guide me ?
      Thanks in advance

@@snehathomas3584 Glad video helped you :-)
What I meant is that where applicant's signature is required (applicant is minor), you need to write in words "No Signature". For eg under applicant's photo. And yes that's correct.. one of the parents need to sign the application form.... apologies for the confusion if any...

    Hi Thanks for the video
I have some queries in regards to this application. If you can answer these questions, it would be really appreciated
    1. I had a single name before Australian citizenship. After acquiring citizenship, I have added surname to my name. Now my Australian passport & citizenship certificate has given name and last name as well. In my OCI application, where I have to upload signature, it has to be of full name like my australian passport or just given name (just single name) like my Indian passport.
    2. I have clicked some pictures at Australia post in order to apply for Australian passport. Does this online application accept those pictures in scanned format?
    3. I started my application last night and fill out the first page. I didn't know that we have to remember our temporary registration id. I clicked exit and when I try to continue my application, it was asking for temporary id which i don't remember. Can i create a new registration now as I don't know the previous one.

Thanks a ton for the video. Its of immense help to me.
The site allows only one file to be uploaded per docuement type.
    1. For proof of Indian origin are both parents pasport appended in a single file and uploaded?
    2. Under which document type was the kids citizenship certificate uploaded ?

    • @ForTheGeeks
      @ForTheGeeks  ปีที่แล้ว

glad it was helpful..as far as i remember i uploaded separate documents for each under different document types. I don't actually remember merging my and my wife's documents into one .
For 2, i think i uploaded the document under relationship certificate.
As far as i remember, what matters most is that you upload the necessary documents ..
having said that, i am just sharing my knowledge here ,i may be wrong as thing may change anytime so better to check with VFS as well
btw if you happen to check with VFS, I would really appreciate if you could share your response here as it may help others 😊 Good luck

I think you can do both together... basically to apply for oci as far as I remember you need surrender certificate which you only get when you surrender the passport...long story short ...my personal suggestion.. Try doing both together so that you only have to send one post...
As far as overwhelming, yeah it's a bit but I have videos ,just follow along n hopefully it will help u :) ..if you have questions shoot an email to VFS they are pretty good at responding ...good luck let me know how it goes

I was in the same boat as yours last year bro because I applied for OCI for my kid only after my Indian passport was cancelled.
I remember I provided OCI card only as my proof of origin. I don't remember now if I shared my old cancelled Indian passport or not .Either way, OCI card should do as proof of Indian origin I reckon.
Like I always say, it better to check with VFS once as things change sometimes.

Hi... Ive submitted my application, but did not self attest any documents in the online application coz I thought those docs only need to be self attested which do not have a signature on them... Btw Im applying for myself as a sole individual and not on the baisis of spouse neither Im applying for a minor... For a minor its understandable to get the docs attested by a second or third party as a minor cannot sign...My Indian Passport, Australian Passport and Marriage Certificate all have my signature already on them, so why to sign on them again... However, Ive sent them the physical document copies self attested as they would be enclosed physically in the application... Do yoi think I did a mistake? I tried calling them, but no success...

    • @ForTheGeeks
      @ForTheGeeks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Rijul, its quite some time since i applied . I applied on my own something like your situation. I vaguely remember i had my documents (copies of original) signed at a police station by a constable. Normally it's JP who need to attest those but i did ask VFS if police constable can attest and they said yes at that time. Coming back to your question, according to me you will have to sign the photo copies and get it attested as well by a JP. It's quite some time so I may be wrong. But one point would like to suggest is that it is best if you drop VFS customer service an email. they have responded to all of my emails even though it may take few days for them to respond. But i have seen they have responded to all my emails. Advantage with email response is that you can refer it back for later stage and also have a piece of mind in case they enquire later.
Good luck and let me know how it goes :-)
