Passed my MOD1 last week. Sailed through first time. The guy in this video, Steve, is my instructor. Absolute legend of a bloke, his teaching style is fantastic and he really knows his stuff. He doesn't teach you to pass a test, he teaches you how to ride a bike and keep yourself safe.
Im here 3 years later watching this preparing for my MOD1. Worried nerves will get the better of me and I'll mess up, but we'll see. Steve looks like a lovely instructor. If you can have a laugh. It makes it easier to control the nerves.
Great vid Rickster. Was a pleasure to help you and your Channel out. Look forward to your next one. Cya soon mate. And in reply to Alan Longmore It is you mate. if you think by passing a CBT on a 10bhp 125 is anything like riding a 78bhp Z650 think again. Training is key and its proven to save lives. Surely that’s what counts, it has nothing to do with me getting “Rich” I do it because I want you guys out there to enjoy motorcycling for as many years as i have with very few incidences, 53 years in fact. 😀
Alright Steve 👍 👍 yeah it was a brilliant day, can't thank you enough for your time and invaluable information. I agree that the 650 compared to a 125 is so different and almost like starting to ride all over again. I do feel There are quite a few things to go through though in order to obtain the full license, especially if you already have your full car license but...that's out of everyone's hands apart from the DVSA and if this is the price to pay to get to ride these awesome machines then sign me up!!! I'm loving every second of it! Cheers Steve mate!!!!!
This has been really helpful....have my mod one in about 5wks! I like that you get to see two views... both watching from the ‘outside’ and ‘the rider view’ .....really helps to know/see what you should be doing, I know the figure of 8 would have confused me if I hadn’t seen it on here! The tips about the speeds for the stop and the cone swerve are great - glad I could see the mph speeds on the bike as that is what I’m used to!! Thank you.
Super video, but one thing he didn’t get right was the U-turn; the examiner expects a check over the shoulder as you begin the manoeuvre but he also expects a further look as you make the u-turn. I know this because my examiner failed the fella before me on this issue. This is meant to be a constructive comment based on my experience at the test centre.
Came from the Bike Torque Facebook page to watch this , Steve and Ken are both friends and were both of my instructors, I had a whale of a time learning with them and have been on many rides with both of them, If you look closely at the Colwick site you will probably see the skid mark of mine ... I managed that with the front wheel locked up and stayed on ... Steve b*llocked me so bad ! Liking the channel mate , Good luck and stay safe.
Watched this video about 20 times in preparation for my MOD1 on Wednesday and got a pass👍👍 2 minor faults 48kph and 49kph on emergency stop and swerve test. Fantastic and informative video, well done👍
An absolute legend Steve. I've not come across anyone who can teach people how to ride than these guys. Bike Torque thank you for putting up with my stupidity and staying calm 😜
Thank you for this video! I found it invaluable and Steve’s tips were spot on. Took my Mod 1 earlier today and breezed through with no faults. Mod 2 next week. Fingers crossed.
Just at the end I realised that this was in Notts so I went back on the video and confirmed it was the same school I took my CBT and will be training for A2 in Jan. I did have a change to talk with Steve but my instructor for the day was Lee. Very helpful video! :)
Brilliant video. I really enjoy his constructive feedback and his approach is extremely uplifting and confidence building in his students is brilliant and super important. Great instructor.
hi I have been to burton test centre today .. big heads up to LCD and dave. very professional and fantastic experience. (completed my mod 1 and passed YAY I passed thank you LCD training) 👍
Big help. Thanks. I can never get it up to speed for the emergency stop or the swerve. Think i take the speed off just before tbe cameras. Well fingers crossed i pass today....🤞
hey man no worries! unfortunately the audio isnt very clear in places but we only had the one chance to film so i had to upload what we got! some parts are better than others though so atleast it helps a little but aye lol. yeah go for it! it was something i didnt think i was able to do but ended up being one of the most amazing experiences of my life! thank you for watching!
17:31 you can see a little wobble because you were aiming to stop right next to the line. The easiest way is to simply do a tight U turn and don't look for the line, if you end up a couple of feet away from the line (but obviously still between) then that's perfectly acceptable.
wished i'd had this video 10 yr ago when i did my mod 1 failed 3 times due to nerve's well i am 58 now lol.and yes i did go onto pass my mod 2 and recently did the north west 500 in scotland which was a total of 1,600 miles from where i live .also i still use the shoulder check's ...anyway brilliant video keep up the good work
Thinking about taking my test soon wonna ride a bike asap looks fun but everything is a leading curve allot of my mates, famlee are trying to tell me not to get a bike as there dangerous but I enjoy riding bikes, in life if somethings dangerous you just gotta be more careful
Excellent video mate, watched a few mod 1 vids and this one is the best, some great tips there especially with the slalom and positioning for the swerve avoidance 👌 hopefully theses help me come Monday 👍
Well done. You got this down. Have to say that it all looks a little daunting to newbie riders (like me) but I know that it's an absolute doddle once you've been riding a month or two.
Hi rick great video I am finding these extremely helping to what us next. I have my theory test next week and on to mod1 and then mod2. So this is giving me a Hugh insight. Good luck for your test I don’t blame you for not mentioning it until it’s over wise move not to put too much pressure on yourself but good luck for whenever it is.
Hi Owen! Thanks for watching, I'm so glad you enjoy the videos! Its my first time ever doing anything like this lol. I just thought a good look into the mod 1 might make people see its not that scary and take the plunge to ditch the L plates lol. Thanks so much buddy:)
Fantastic video. Are you able to help me understand better. Am I right in thinking I can book a mod1 and mod2 without having to pay for a test centres training before?
I failed my mod1 last year, really lucky that they let you do this training on the actual mod1 site! I have my test booked next week, the u turn I didn't know you could stop before the turn I thought it was one movement?
Really good video. Currently learning with Steve, top guy and you can tell he’s a really good rider. Really knows what he’s talking about. Very much enjoying my lessons with him so far. I assume you’ve passed both your mod1 and mod2 now?
@rickrides i am rewatching this over and over as i have just passed my theory on the 11th of june and got my mod1 on 8th of july it has only took 37years of my life and only took 5 years of riding to get it sorted and missing your videos man
This is really helpful watch for a basic rider. had my cbt for 5 years, finally passed my theory this week and booked myself a mod 1 for next week, no lessons apart from this vid. Hope they allow me to take it on my sym symphony 125?
I'm a little concerned with the U turn. How I was taught was you get the two shoulder checks in, proceed to ride up the left hand white line, you would then perform a right life saver, return your head back to centre for a second, and then commit to the turn. At no point have I seen anyone pull of, stop alongside the white line to do the lifesaver, them commit to the turn. Has anyone passed a mod1 doing this just out of interest? I have a full bike license just for reference. ** Instructor seems really approachable and friendly with his students!
I failed my last one struggled moving the bike for parking but failed as I did my hazard avoidance, did the cones too much throttle and missed the box 😔 re test Friday
I done mine at Enfield, everything was good, as soon as I came out the gate didn't realize there was a rock and stepped on it dropping the bike, Examiner said no one saw that, park your bike in the bay. Glad I passed LoL
Aayyeeeeee well done on passing dude!! Hahaha sounds like you got a bang on examiner then mate 👍👍 mine failed me for 1kph too slow through the swerve haha buzzing for you! Only one test awwy my dude 👍👍

It depends on how long you take to do the maneuver whether you would require another shoulder check.
The head part before you turn is his shoulder check 👍🏻
Correct. Left and right observations before moving off, right lifesaver as you start the manoeuvre, and another just before you turn
