The Best Worksharp Precision Adjust Setup??

  • This is a great budget setup that can produce great results over the stock WSPA. All for around $100.
    PLZ READ!!!
    I spoke with some reps at Gritomatic, as they are the US supplier of Venev stones, they are currently out of stock of the Venev Dog series stones. However they expect them to potentially be in stock in November. That is not a guarantee however as there are many factors including production lead time and international shipping challenges. I will add a link to the scorpion stones as a temporary substitute, it's not as budget friendly but they do offer better performance.
    This is my first video, and first time editing. I hope it's ok!

    Just got my Elite model a couple days ago and have sharpened a few pocket knives and a couple of very rough kitchen knives. The pocket knives just neede a little fine stoning and a good stropping and both kitchen knives had to be completely reprofiled. The stock stone selection in the Elite kit worked great. I was pretty impressed with the performance and the ease of setup/adjustment. Thanks for the stone and holder suggestions.

    • @StropsandStones
      @StropsandStones  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The elite kit is an improvement for sure. I still think they could have done just a hair more for a more refined edge but none the less for 75% of people it will be perfect. I'm glad you are happy and are enjoying sharp knives!

    Very good video and tips.
    I have basically the same set up, but I also have the KME 50 grit diamond plate for the reprofiling and chip repair and the lapping film kit from eBay to really put a super mirror edge.
    The ange cube is definitely mandatory though, if you use the stone holder the angle changes drastically and you are no longer able to use the guide marks on the sharpener.

    Hi
    Thank you for your good video, how long does this knife sharpener usually work? And after how long should it be replaced?
    Question 2: I do not have an electronic angle meter, and without using an electronic angle meter, how do we know what angle number to use for each type of knife, such as 15 degrees or 17 degrees or 20 degrees or 25 degrees or 30 degrees?

    Hey! Nice video, what you said about doing one long stroke instead of a sawing motion makes a lot of sense. I was wondering if its possible to do something like this in a 7/8 inch kitchen knives. Do you have any idea how to preserve the apex in that case?

    What, exactly, were the two stones you used? I found the prices on the links to be higher, although I do like the four grits you spoke about. The links showed quite a few choices, and were mostly a bit more than $22. P.S. one link was dead, Venev Dog Stones (Currently Out Of Stock).

    Hey what did you mean about the 25% abrasive on the stones you said they only use 25% abrasive on their stones? Does that mean that the over all thickness of the stone is 25% abrasive per side or does it mean that they only put abrasives in 25% of the bonding resin

    • @StropsandStones
      @StropsandStones  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video, might want to get one of those universal holders from Hapstone, but goddamn I hate those blades with the big divots, you can see just how much that thing is flexing, I believe if you say that thing's got a good and steady edge but I doubt that's good in the long run. Never had that kind of flex with any of my knives.

    Hi , i think this type of sharpening systems are not sharpening a blade on the original angle but on a forced angle and only if the blade is perfectly round with the same radius on the whole lenght of the blade this kind of system will work and i said not this sysytem but all the systems with only a pivot point.
    If you are not in accord with me, you can make a video to show with the electronic angle meter to show everybody in different spots of the blade it is a different angle and that can damage the blades and messed up your entire angle of the blade because when you haveTHE SAME HEIGHT BUT DIFFERENT DISTANCE, THE ANGLE BETWEEN THE BLADE AND STONE CHANGE, and THATS NOT GOOD FOR THE BLADES.
    After few sharpening sessions with these kind of systems you will have on a single blade a mutitude of angles that VARY with the shape of the blade, the more curves or chages of a direction of a blade has the more angles you'll have because, LIKE I SAID BEFORE, THE DISTANCE AND ANGLES ARE INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL then as one quantity increases, the other decreases.

    This thing was a complete disappointment to me that I sent it back. It wouldn't hold my knives tightly nor would it rotate properly nor could I get an edge on any of my knives. A complete disaster.

    • @StropsandStones
      @StropsandStones  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for such a late reply, so I haven't had any issues with rotation, but as far as holding the knives tightly I've experienced this. if you just tape the part of the blade that inserts in the clamp it really helps.
      If you want something better you'd have to increase your budget significantly.
      I'd strongly recommend a TSprof product.
