My dad was a cab from way, way back and my brothers were in the Muchachos. I cry when I hear the old music and see the old marching formations. The Cabs will always be in my blood and I miss them all so very much!
I feel like Karen, when I hear the Cabs were and still are an iconic corps. When I hear that drum line, Off the Line and the musical arrangements it brings back so many good memories of what was the golden years of the real Drum Corps!! Thank you for the many thrills and memories!! Long live the Cabs
I was at that show as a teen age kid & didn't know there was a sr. Corps category @ the Am. Region's show. Was back behind the big green wall.
I seem to recall that one of them had a heart attack @ the end of the program & they took him off in an ambulance but he didn't make it.
It was EXTREMELY hot & humid that night.
They were and still are the greatest of all time
The soloists that year was Gene Marotta,George Rodriquez,Harry Hazelwood,Sal Macaluso...and a very young Bobby Burke at 17 !!!!
Simply THE BEST of THE BEST drum corps show ever. The percussion blends so well with their fabulous hornline - wonderful arranging. I'll never forget this show. I can tap my feet to this music unlike most of the music these days. I'm OK with living in the past and enjoying the drum corps of old. That said. the corps of today are pretty darn awesome with incredible professional talent too. . . . . but I always come back to the Cabs and Bucs of the 60's.
Largely self taught, couldn't read music. Amazing video. No microphones. Volunteer instructors. TY

I would go back to the 60's and stay there.
High Stepping and full arm swing their legendary trademark, what a memory. I was in the stands watching the show.
This was really awesome drum corp days and ones that will never be forgotten, the gentleman that took most of these videos were from his workplace video equipment.
I marched with the Emerald Statemens from Rochester, New York and the following year joined St. Joseph's Of Batavia.

1975 - West Point Halftime show (Army vs. N.Carolina) ; Back field getting ready to wheel into the Flamenco Front ; The corps of Cadets on their feet applauding as we crossed the field .................. still get goose bumps remembering that sound throughout Michie Stadium, Great crowd response and we increased the volume by 10 horns ............. great memory.

My dad was 3rd in the snare line...wonderful memories of how it was and how I feel it should be..they had inspections then and the marching and maneuvering was precise....favorite memories.... my vacations were built around competitions and I loved the warm ups..especially the Town & Country in Wildwood Crest before the State Competition..fun times and the songs are in my brain for all the great reasons. Perks we always got into Giants games free cuz they were playing the half time show.rump rumr rump !!!

my grand father used to be in the drum line up until recently.
my favorite drum piece is the Pratt solo from 1972.
i have some videos on my channle of the alumni horn line warm up on august 22 of last year.
My dad and uncle played in the Bridgeport Troopers in the 1960's. I grew up spending weekends at drum corp meets and I still I get goose pimples hearing the music and experiencing the thrill of going to a meet. Now, 45 years later, I am still addicted !!!
My first year with the corps...playing there with my dad and brother were a special treat.
Drums, bugles, uniform and instrument inspection , marching and maneuvering & Color guard and flag presentation~~~all in a set time or penalties were accrued...The Hawthorne Cabs rocked the Drum Corp World.
Amazing. I'm cleaning out my grandfather's house and he has several caballeros vinyls. Listening to them as I post this
This is so beautiful to me. I am the daughter of Ralph Silverbrand, and I don’t think I have ever seen this before. I have seen others and have wished I could see more of him. This allows me to see what I remember watching live as a child. My sister shared this with me today and we watch on what would have been his 92nd birthday. Thank you!
In my opinion your dad was the best drum major ever. He had total control of the Caballeros, and hundreds of thousands of people throughout the United States and possibly the world looked up to your father he was a great man missed by all of us. Even though I competed against the Caballeros many times in the Years 1964 through 1968 with the Long Island sunrises, I always respected the Caballeros, and always felt privileged to compete on the same competition field. May your father rest in peace. God bless all those that have passed on.

Amazing, You and I probably saw each other around now and again and never knew who the other was. I can't tell you how much I miss my dad and the Cabs. Thank you for posting, it brings me that much closer to my beloved Cabs and what was once family.
Damn, this is great.still gives me chills.can't turn it up loud enough. When I was around 5-6 yrs. old my dad played horn with the Ct.Yankees.
One of the best drum and bugle corps ever. I'm so glad I got to see them perform in person. My corps, The Chicago Cavaliers won this show on the junior corps level, and I think the Caballeros won on the senior corps level. The show took place in Boston, Massachusetts, in Fenway Park. I played snare and still play.
I was in the CT Hurricanes for 11 years, including this contest. There was not a corps admired and respected more than the Cabs. Still miss the days when drum corps was exactly that, not some silly stage show.

I was in Viet Nam that year 1967 and heard that the Cabs were still smoking and playing strong and full force. Lucky and fortunate to come back home after serving my country To hear and see this Drum Corps still shows me how the Super Great Senior Corp Hawthorne had it.

I played with St Stephens Jr. Corp, NJ in the fifties. The bugles were one valve. The Corp dissolved after one year but it was still a great experience.
Great memories, I first saw them in Vegas in 1962 & loved their music. later I joined Reilly 1963 thru 1966 & recall competing against them in the 64&65 dream nationals. Grateful for these older vids,I saw some Jr. corps in Phx, music was great but I missed the "off the line" starts
when the cabs came to Rochester ny, i would get a seat right behind the judges , that horn line would take you out of your seat
I was at Fenway Park for this competition. I can still remember the songs as if it were yesterday. Best time for Drum and Bugle Corps! Wish they would go back to old school shows, they really knocked you out of your seats with a wall of sound.

What a corps, that sound, power and that classic Spanish uniform!! You can feel the pride and sheer power. The drum line is so very good and the arrangements are exceptional . The entire program gives me goose bumps and leaves me wanting more!! Finally the soloists are incredible👏👏👍👍

Nothing like ol school drum corp, they always blew the crowds off their seats. Eveybody use make sure their were in their seats not to miss Hawthone, YEAHHH!!!! Hawthorne.
WOW! I grew up in New Jersey. Was around Drum Corps growing up and always was and will be a "Cabs" fan. This is what Drum Corps is supposed to be like. Starting with bringing the American Flag on the field. No 3 valve horns, etc. Just like at the M&M with this video. No field lines to go by. They were just awesome to watch! Every time I hear Cherry Pink I get goosebumps. It was my father's favorite Cabs Song. He always talked about "Jimmy D.". See you in Septemer?

Hi Jack, I am guessing that Bob and Greg (Smith) were in the Muchachos between 1955 and 1960. This is just a guess on my part, because I was very little and I don't remember. I was born in 1957 and we moved from Hawthorne in 1961. I am sorry that it took me so long to respond, but the only person who would remember is my mother and she is in the hospital at the moment. It would be nice to know if you remember them. Thanks for contacting me! It's really great to remember old times.

Who were your brothers? I marched with the Muchachos from their first day in 1959 up to a few weeks before these Nationals. (I had to go away to school and was unable to march here.)

@@DV-mq5fvIf this was '67, they sure were. ONE valve. ONE trigger rotor. Sometimes sone outfits were still using horns w/the old slides. I was playing 2nd bar I that yr & had this old brass thing w/a little bitton shaped rotor sticking out to the side that I had to grab w/a finger & thumb when needed (!!!).
