I'm glad they finally did a video on this, because the difference is noticeable.
It's noticeable too in other countries, for example here in Serbia the taste is nothing like in Germany... And of course, the best one is from the glass bottle (for me at least)

bottle definitely has the potential to be the best, but on average cans are usually more consistent/better as you said
Rhett is absolutely right about fountains not being calibrated. There are measurement devices which allow you to adjust the syrup to water ratio.
... think the ratio is 4 to 1 syrup... the vendor driver used to carry a measuring cup to check ours ...

@@willgaukler8979 What the ratio is doesn't matter. If you get a fountain drink that's about empty, it'll taste like carbonation instead of soda. I've had that several times at places like McDonald's where they end up giving me a new drink because they know it can happen.

I think the experience of a glass bottle is a big factor.
They both enjoyed the plastic bottle more than the glass bottle but just assumed it would be the opposite.
I do prefer the can because the carbonation is a lot crisper for the most part.
Agree. Flat soda is yuck. With a regular sized can, I can drink all of it before it goes flat or loses enough to make it taste not as good. I never buy bottles, I don't drink enough in a short time before it goes flat.
Well glass bottles also make it pop and give it carbonation,and they get cold easily

What a lot of people don't realize is that the can actually (usually) has an extremely thin plastic layer that coats the inside so that the drink does not actually touch the aluminum. I myself prefer the can however, because even with that plastic layer, it still has a 'metallicy' taste that I like. Probably due to the tip of the tongue tasting the outside rim of the can lol.
Doesn't the soda pour over the freshly raw metal at the opening? I like the slight metal taste, quite pleasant.

I've worked at McDonald's and let me tell you, we didn't do any of the soda-enhancing stuff you listed. It could've just been my McDonald's, we... weren't the best.
I currently work at McDonald’s MOST of our soda syrups come in plastic bags since it’s the biggest seller our Coca Cola gets shipped in monthly buy giant liquid transportation trucks and is stored under pressure in a cooled storage tank and the water for all of our sodas is filtered through a complex and expensive reverse osmosis system which makes the water super clean
I was a manager at two locations. The only thing I did that may have changed the flavor was made the crew clean the damn nozzles every night. So really, just made sure everything was clean. What a concept.

Cans are definitely great. But a dialed in fountain is pretty damn close. Glass bottles are up there too. Miss me with the plastic bottles though
@@theabner880 Sodas cooled naturally taste better than refrigerated to me for some reason. A 12 pack in the trunk of your car in the winter time is the best in the south where it isn’t cold enough to freeze

I think it depends how they setup the fountain. also aluminum cans are coated to prevent the aluminum from touching the liquid. the only spot they do touch is the shear line around the opening.

It's not that the soda in a glass bottle tastes better, it's that the glass bottle is the best vessel from which to drink
It has the least reactive change with the best preservation. All except for the plastic gasket seal.
It is also just a big nostalgia thing. People grew up with glass bottles, so they associate it with tasting better because it came with good feelings as a kid. In terms of protecting freshness, cans are the best, followed by plastic.

As a former McDonald's manager I can say with all confidence that they do NOT store there soda syrup in steel containers. It IS in bags. And they do not chill them either. Someone lied to Rhett and Link.
It used to be steel containers. I worked there many years ago and those behemoths were a pain to move around.

If mcds would clean their damn fountains it probably would taste better but cans taste the most original fresh and well carbonated imo

Oh you are very mistaken. A huge portion of profit comes from Coca-Cola. McDonald's has their own recipe and everything. The fountain is specialized for quick, consistant pours. The cups are even tested to how the material changes the flavor. The ice is shaped to melt even a certain way.
